[SOLVED] Dell Optilex SX280 Graphics
Posted by: bobw - 12-15-2014, 09:50 AM - Forum: Video Cards - Replies (16)

I've now installed LL2.2, 32 bit, on an elderly Dell Optilex SX280, using a Samsung monitor with 1280x1024 resolution, but I can't set the display resolution to anything higher than 1024x768.

I know that the PC is capable of supporting higher resolution, and it appeared to deliver 1280x1024 satisfactorily in Windows XP.

The BIOS is the latest one available for the machine (I don't know whether this could be relevant). The machine has an Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Integrated Graphics Controller.  I have downloaded the "Graphics Installer 1.0.7 for Ubuntu 14.04, 32 bit" from:  https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads
and followed the process outlined in the Release Notes at:  https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads/2...inux-1.0.7 .

When I ran the installer, it took several minutes, reporting progress as it went, so it seemed to install new drivers successfully.  I was very hopeful at this stage, but it didn't make any difference.  Following a suggestion picked up from another forum, I have also done "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg".

The Additional Drivers tab in Install Drivers still shows "No additional drivers available".

I don't know how, or whether it is possible, to take it any further. Any suggestions, please?

System report attached.

Linux Lite mentioned on the radio in Sydney Australia
Posted by: Dookus - 12-14-2014, 10:25 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (5)

I mentioned to my partner that the OS running on her Laptop ran second in the Package Hit ratings recently (and thought to self ... I knew this would happen with this release Smile) she replies "I heard about it on the radio the other day" I think the car radio in her car is set to 2WS ... a popular Sydney FM station.

Question 64 or 32 bit LL 2.2 Opinions welcomed
Posted by: newtusmaximus - 12-14-2014, 03:45 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (5)

Have  a 2007 ultra slim desktop HP Compaq dc7700 which currently has 3 x 1 GB Ram fitted  running on 32 bit  LL2.0
RAM  usually only 10% occupied.  Bios previously updated 2011 version.

System apparently has 64 bit capability so out of interest ran live LL2.2 from USB and all appears to be working OK.

Question therefore:-

What would be the advantage of running 64 bit instead of 32 bit given that existing  RAM is only 3GB and barely occupied.  To fully utilise the 64 bit capability the dc7700 will accept 3 x 2gb RAM modules. Not a cheap upgrade £65.00 or so

Bearing in mind the desktop PC is being used for "normal" office use NOT CAD,  Intense Graphics ( photo editing) or gaming.  is there any point in changing from 32bit to the 64 bit option; with or without RAM upgrade?  Thanks

  Cannot add Armenian Language
Posted by: Sebouh - 12-14-2014, 09:48 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (10)

Hi All, being a newbie, I need assistance to add and work with Armenian language in Linux Lite 2.2

Here is the issue:

* Downloaded and installed the Armenian language package via Language Support.
* Added the Armenian language in the Keyboard layout.
* Ibus is selected.
* Ibus preferences input methods, the "Customize active input methods" is checked.
* Drop down the :Select input method >>> show all input methods, the Armenian language is not there.

Where have I gone wrong or what is missing ?

Thank you in advance for your assistance  Smile

  btrfs-tools

Please add btrfs-tools to the iso. I encountered an error while installing LL 2.2 with btrfs format selected. Installing the tools package fixed it.
