dual boot order Windows 7 / LL
Posted by: delmar - 12-12-2014, 05:04 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (3)

I was pleasantly surprised how easy to load LL in a dual boot configuration with another operating system but I think I need to do it a little differently on my wife's Windows 7 computer. If I add LL to her machine the way I did it on mine and she presses the power button LL will come up by default. How do I make it so Windows comes up by default so I don't make my wife mad?

  [SOLVED] Can't install bluetooth adapter
Posted by: Monkeyman - 12-12-2014, 03:19 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (7)

I bought a bluetooth adapter (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6833139027) in order to use a set of BT headphones (originally used for my phone).  As soon as I plugged it in, I got this:

When I try to pair it with my headphones (or my laptop), I get this:

The BT driver is Windows only (with a .exe file).  I can't seem to install it using Wine.  (EDIT: Just read that Wine won't install drivers.)

What can I do to get this to work?  I don't really care if I can pair it with my laptop (although I swap files daily so it would be helpful if I could) but I need the headphones to work.

EDIT:  Found this review on Amazon but can't figure out how to utilize it.  The first command does nothing and the second takes me to something unfamiliar to me.  I tried to c/p the quoted text but didn't know what to do with it after I pasted it.

Quote:I've gotten this working under Windows 7 Starter (one phone test successful out of one) and under Ubuntu 12.04 (two phone tests successful out of two), as well as Linux Mint 13 XFCE RC (one phone test successful out of one;LM 13 XFCE RC test was done in liveUSB mode). It worked great under both Ubuntu 12.04 and Linux Mint 13 XFCE RC in LiveUSB mode.  I did have issues under Ubuntu with one of my phones, but I installed the "Blueman" Bluetooth manager and it works fine now. Linux is not officially supported, though you can get it working by following the steps here (found it off other reviews for this product) :
Open command line interface (CLI), bash, or some other terminal-like program/application. It should allow you to enter commands. Enter these two commands :
touch /etc/modprobe.d/medialink-btusb.conf
sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/medialink-btusb.conf

Then, copy and paste this into the file WITHOUT QUOTES : "install usb:v0A5Cp21E8d*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip* /sbin/modprobe btusb; echo 0a5c 21e8 > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/btusb/new_id"

Then, plug in your adapter and launch your Bluetooth manager ("Blueman" recommend). You are now ready to use the device.

Any help would be appreciated.

Patchy pixels in Google Earth street view
Posted by: m654321 - 12-12-2014, 08:46 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (15)

Scott said:

Quote: I'm not a Google Earth user but I thought I'd at least make an attempt at a solution for this issue.
So it seems that the issue is in the rendering?  Googling "google earth rendering" resulted in many hits, here's one that looked promising.
https://support.google.com/earth/answer/148070?hl=en
Quote:Thanks Scott.  I had a look at the link you gave (above), but the rendering problem or 'patchy pixels', when Goole Earth is on street view, appears to be an LL-specific, as it does not show up in either Zorin 6.4 or Windows 7, running on the same laptop (Asus X71Q).  The step was to then go to Tools and then to Options within Google Earth, to check the display settings as you indicated in your link.  I found the settings were identical for Win 7 and Zorin 6.4, LL2.2 or LL2, so the 'patchy pixels' issue appears unrelated to the display settings in Google Earth.

Is anyone else having difficulties with Google Earth in LL? Any other ideas on how this problem may be removed in LL?

Regards
Mike

  Mini PC's Linux Compatability
Posted by: Wirezfree - 12-11-2014, 10:49 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (2)

Hi,

I have been looking at get a very compact mini PC, but configuable/upgradable.
There are lots out there, but all with pretty fixed in configurations & spec.
This is the first time I have seen definite Linux info on any major suppliers site.

http://www.shuttle.eu/news/view/which-sh...48729/297/

I'm looking at this one, and have found a UK supplier.
http://www.shuttle.eu/products/slim/ds87/overview/
It will operate 24/7 at 50C ambient, it will also boot from USB & SD Card

If it lasts as long as my previous main PC, it will probably outlive me.

  -Nex = cpu-z.?
Posted by: Wirezfree - 12-11-2014, 07:12 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (8)

Hi,

I came across -Nex which looks like a clone of the cpu-z tool for Windows that was very useful.
Anybody had experience of this.?

Info on i-Nex
http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2014/02/nex-c...tool-linux

There is a reference to "Gambas 3" which a google reveals is a programming/development language/tool. (It's also Spanish for Shrimp.... mmmm gambas al ajillo  Smile )
There is a cryptic comment from the reviewer "The good/bad news (depending on your preference) is that i-Nex is available to install from a PPA"

The review contains links to:
https://launchpad.net/i-nex

There are links to developer website: (in Polish)
http://i-nex.linux.pl/i-nex-7-4-0/

Then links to the PPA details:
http://i-nex.linux.pl/install/

So before diving in and installing, would see if anybody's got any comments on .it
Also, Install it via PPA? or the .debs on Launchpad.?
