Hi,
I've been using ubuntu and derivatives for some years but am very low on the learning curve none-the-less.
I recently found some email messages and documents opening as a series of squares and suspect the font settings. I downloaded and installed apple fonts (already have ms fonts) to try and fix this but it hasn't.
Perhaps it is something obvious. but documents I have made in the past are not displaying correctly in leafpad. If I change the font to wingdings or some others it reads in the preview but Times New Roman and other common fonts dont.
I resoved the issue in my email by unchecking the allow messages to use other fonts box in advanced display settings of thunderbird.
I've never fully understood what character encoding is but wonder if it is that. The problem is that I dont see a system wide setting for that.
Hello all,
I would like to thank the team of developers for such a nice operating system. I have only been using Linux for a couple of years, and have tried more than a few distros. I started with Ubuntu 12.04, but was never satisfied with Unity, so I tried Debian, Slitaz, Zorin and others and found most of them to be very unfriendly to new users, the ones that were more friendly just didn't have the feel I was looking for. I have been using LL since 2.0 and just recently upgraded to 2.2. One of the things I love about LL is that it is easy on old hardware. I am currently running it on an old Acer Aspire One AOA150 that i got in 2009 with 1GB ram. LL works great I have even been able to run Virtualbox on it with xp to run some of my old go to win programs. The team is doing a great job, keep up the good work.
As you may have already or seen on You Tube, Elementary OS wants you to donate to download their distro http://http://blog.elementaryos.org/post...0/payments. :o
I have distro hopped looking for the distro for me. Some I downloaded and liked. Some I could not even install because of no automatic partitioning. I stopped using a rolling release after GUI updater broke. I am still using Linux Lite that I started using in January last year after trying the rolling release for about a month. I still watch and read reviews and download distros to see what they look like and to try find a backup in case my chosen distro, Linux Lite is ever discontinued. :'(
I have donated to Linux Lite after using awhile and probably will again.
I would not "donate" just to try a distro out whether I installed it or just tried it on the live DVD/CD.
I won't buy a car without a test drive either. ;D
Searching for Suckit rootkit... Warning: /sbin/init INFECTED
, on chkrootkit commands in Terminal , wonder how come & if it s a false positive .
I recently bought a second hand HP laptop, which has Win 7 installed and running OK. I would like to retain Win 7 as I need it for a few non-Linux programs, on the other hand I love using LL for most tasks. So, I am considering having a dual boot machine, hence some questions:
1. Is it recommended that the dual boot be done using easy BCD? As shown in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dwwSSg-kJM
2. Is it a good idea to retain all banking/payments/ transfers in LL - because it is more secure?
3. How much HD space should I allow for the LL portion?
4. If a virus/malaware happens to infect the Win 7 partition is it likely to contaminate the LL partition?
5. Are there any other problems that a newbie like me should watch out for?
Thanks for your help
alex

If I edit these vids in Openbox the size will increase 10 fold so
Does any one know of a good .mkv or .mp4 splitter joiner that doesn't increase the size much if at all.?

Posting pics on the forum is simple but please do not post large images as they seriously inconvenience other users by slowing the page load times.
Please would a mod be kind enough to modify this sentence to conform with Lite guide lines.

If you use ".gif" pics watch out for an added ".gifv" at the end of the url address which you must remove so it's ".gif".

Hi everybody
I've recently installed Lite on my ASUS EeePC 1005HA netbook and I'm thrilled with the way it's performing. I have an issue with unallocated space of about 93GB and I want to allocate the entire hard drive to Linux Lite. FYI, I've attached a screenshot of my partitions. I've searched high and low for the answer but it evades me. I only have basic understanding of partitions etc and would appreciated step by step instructions .
Thanks
Paul
