How to set up Lenovo Thinkpad T430's FN and special keys?
Posted by: vaikus84 - 01-26-2015, 04:41 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (1)

Hello fellow lappy power users

Does someone know how to specifically set up a Lenovo Thinkpad T430's keyboard under Linux Lite? So that all keys function properly including the Function and Special keys like the ThinkVantage, Sound Mute, Mic mute buttons? (FN + Wifi sign button / F7 -- FN + Camera and Headset sign / F6 -- FN+ Lock sign / F3) and the other ones too?

Possibly some advice on what the ThinkVantage button is best used for under Linux Lite?

Thank you in advance,
vaikus84

How to set up TLP power manager on a Lenovo Thinkpad T430?
Posted by: vaikus84 - 01-26-2015, 04:31 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (15)

Hello Fellow lappy users

What would be the best way for tweaking TLP power manager under Linux Lite 2.2 64 bit? Do I need to disable some tweaks that could conflict with it?

The goal is to have balanced usage and power consumption and to generate less heat with my lappy.

Do I need to post some hardware info and what would those commands be?

Thank you in advance,

How to set up sound on a Lenovo ThinkPad T430?
Posted by: vaikus84 - 01-26-2015, 04:22 AM - Forum: Sound - No Replies

Hello Sound aficionados of Linux Lite

What are the specific settings to allow to use all the features that T430's sound solution has to offer?

Some of them that come to my mind are:
*Setting up Pulseaudio to have Noise Cancellation for the Mic
*Setting up pulseaudio to have DisplayPort audio visible in pavucontrol
*So that Skype usage is not disturbed by other programs

I'm definitely missing something. Hope some sound gurus can help me out on this one.

Thank you in advance and my sound clarity be the goal,

[SOLVED] How to set up "thinkfan" on a Lenovo Thinkpad T430?
Posted by: vaikus84 - 01-26-2015, 04:13 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (15)

Hello

How would I go about installing and setting up "thinkfan" to controll my Thinkpad's system fan 1?
And how to make it start with the system permanently?
What information do I need to paste here from my hardware? And what commands would they be?

I need it to be quiet when doing nothing in particular and revs higher only after 55'C degrees Celsius.

Also wondering is there a way to read more fan speed steps than low rpm and high rpm? Would love for it to have at lest 3 or 4 steps on different levels of heat.

Does this thinkfan software affect the hdd temps badly in real life situation use?

Thank you in advance,
vaikus84

How to optimize Intel HD 4000 graphics on T430 so no tearing occurs?
Posted by: vaikus84 - 01-26-2015, 04:03 AM - Forum: Video Cards - No Replies

Hello People of Linux Lite

Does someone have extensive experience on optimizing the Intel HD 4000 graphics card on a Lenovo Thinkpad T430 when it's the only graphics chip in the system?
(having tearing issues)

And is there a way so that the graphics memory and clock speed can ramp up to maximum specified usage when needed and use low power and memory when not needed for intensive tasks?
(It seems to use very little of the available memory).

Is there a way to see the exact maximum usage in the command line?

My graphics hardware info looks like this:

How to set up an HDD on Lenovo ThinkPad T430?
Posted by: vaikus84 - 01-26-2015, 03:51 AM - Forum: Hard Drives and SSDs - No Replies

Hello

I'm new to Linux Lite. How would I go about optimizing My HDD to work balanced and long on it?
Meaning : scheduler / hdparm etc.

Would love to use TLP for it. So I could potentially tweak some other aspects of power management also like - Runtime Power Management / advanced power management / SATA aggressive link power management (ALPM) / PCI Express Active State Power Management (PCIe ASPM) etc.

Also would love to know the best balanced settings for those mentioned.

Any advice on what settings to use for this?:
(From what I understand this gives info to hdparm so essentially those are numbers to send to hdparm?)

# Hard disk advanced power management level: 1(max saving)..254(off)
# Levels 1..127 may spin down the disk.
# Separate values for multiple devices with spaces.
DISK_APM_LEVEL_ON_AC="254 254"
DISK_APM_LEVEL_ON_BAT="160 160"

Also how to set up the Lenovo Thinkpad T430's Free-fall sensor correctly?

Thank you in advance,
vaikus84

Wondering if someone here already has experience in setting up this particular machine.

Meaning:

*Thinkfan software (so it's quiet when doing nothing in particular and revs higher only after 55'C degrees Celsius) and so thinkfan starts automatically with the system
*Free-fall sensor (getting it to work correctly)
*Setting up Pulseaudio to have Noise Cancellation for the Mic
*Setting up pulseaudio to have DisplayPort audio visible in pavucontrol
*Setting up powermanagement to be as efficient as possible to have longer batterylife / Maybe someone knows TLP well here, because I've used it on other Distros so far, but I don't know the nifty specific stuff for it on a ThinkPad
*How to set up all the FN keys and special function keys to work ( ThinkVantage button, Mic Mute button )
*How to optimize Intel HD 4000 graphics ( so no tearing occurs and graphics memory can ramp up to maximum specified )
*How to optimize HDD / scheduler / hdparm etc.
*How to set the right display color profile (ICC)
*How to start Intel CPU Microcode with the system
*How to set up the Synaptics Touchpad with all it's functions
*And how to get bluetooth and 3g modem properly to work
*And maybe something else that I'm missing

Thank you in advance and nice Distro,

Anybody having this problem besides me? I am streaming the news and the audio and video are out of sync.  I've tried Firefox and Chrome..same problem.  I've run into this in the past and seems flash player eventually updates and everything clears up.  Could this be my problem now?  Anybody having similar difficulty?
