  Cryptkeeper
Posted by: tomikaj - 07-13-2015, 02:08 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (3)

Cannot get cryptkeeper to work. There is no startup icon .... no key nor blank page.

I have been using this program for some time in Netrunner and Zorin 7 lite with no problems. But it doesn't start (with an icon) in Linux Lite 2.4 Sad

Just installed Linux Lite yesterday with no issues.

  Installing ClamAV in Linux Lite
Posted by: N4RPS - 07-12-2015, 09:51 PM - Forum: Tutorials - Replies (8)

Hello, All!

For those of you who run Windows as a dual-boot with Linux, or for those who otherwise need to check Windows files and directories for malware, ClamAV is the best, free alternative to most all the antivirus programs I've tried. Sure, there are others out there like Comodo, AVG, Avast, and Avira, but I've found ClamAV to be the easiest choice to install and live with. You can even create a Live USB with persistence, install ClamAV, and us it as a stand-alone virus cleaner stick for any PC that will boot from USB!

ClamAV can be found in the repositories, and is installed as follows, using a terminal window {CTRL-ALT-T]:

Code:
sudo apt-get install clamav clamav-daemon clamtk

For those who live on the 'cutting edge' of software, here's the PPA (which, by the way, still doesn't install the latest ClamAV GUI):

Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-clamav/ppa && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install clamav clamav-daemon clamtk

You can live with ClamTK saying the GUI is not the latest version and get by just fine, but if you can't stand the indication, here goes.

To install the latest ClamTK (ClamAV GUI), here's the link to the version 5.19 .deb file, which can be installed with GDebi:

https://bitbucket.org/dave_theunsub/clam...-1_all.deb

In any case, after initial installation, you will need to call

Code:
sudo freshclam

in a terminal window to fetch the latest virus signatures - which could take a few minutes, depending on your system.

Hope this helps someone...

  Uninstalling Wine via Lite Software
Posted by: torreydale - 07-12-2015, 09:11 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (7)

Uninstalling Wine via Lite Software doesn't seem to do so completely.  I usually have Winetricks or other remnants afterwards.  I have to go to Install/Remove Software and remove anything associated with Wine.  I've noticed similar performance when installing and removing Play on Linux via Lite Software.

  Themes question please
Posted by: Lend27 - 07-11-2015, 04:36 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (12)

When I click on "appearance" I only see 3 themes.
If I navigate to the "themes" folder there are many more listed.
Why aren't they showing up in "appearance"?

Thanks

  Steam folder for saved games
Posted by: Lend27 - 07-11-2015, 04:08 PM - Forum: Games Support - Replies (3)

Steam installed on my main SSD, but I want games to be saved to another internal SSD.
When I bring up steam and try to download a game it gives me a chance to designate the drive to save to.
When I navigate to the drive it says "drive must be writeable".
Evidently the permissions on the drive are wrong.

How can I correct this so I can save to correct drive?

Thanks
Len

What is the best way to uninstall some default packages that I do not use?
Posted by: Lend27 - 07-11-2015, 02:20 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (2)

I want to remove some of the packages that came pre-installed on Linux Lite.
What is the best way to remove them?
I don't want to muck up my system, all is running fine right now.

Thanks
Len

Can I have GPT & MBR on the same laptop but on different physical drives?
Posted by: m654321 - 07-11-2015, 08:38 AM - Forum: Hard Drives and SSDs - Replies (3)

I have an older laptop (c.2007) with two separate physical drives (both formatted as MBR): sda contains my OSes (LL/Win7 dual-boot); sdb contains  /mnt/DATA for file-sharing between the OSes.

However, I would like to partition sda as a GPT partitioned drive.  Of course I will no longer be able to run Windows OS on it (except as a virtual machine), but the purpose is to use sda to showcase a number of different distros to interested parties.

Question...
If I have my OSes on GPT-formatted sda, will I still be able to symlink with files on the MBR-formatted sdb, or will symlinking only work if both drives are GPT-only, or both drives are MBR-only, rather than a 'mixed' system?

Many thanks for any help on this one.
Regards
Mike

LL/Win8.1 UEFI dual boot: How do I use 'Vim' software to edit grub.cfg
Posted by: m654321 - 07-11-2015, 08:15 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (1)

As some of you may know I used Nehal J Wani's YouTube video to successfully set up a LL2.4/Win8.1  dual-boot, with UEFI fully enabled on an Asus G750js laptop.  Within the next month I intend to post here a step-by-step tutorial on how to do this.

However, I have one very minor issue to resolve, and would appreciate guidance on this.
My grub-screen lists the choice of the above two operating systems, except that LL is listed as Ubuntu: this is because an Ubuntu live disk is needed to enable UEFI in the final stages of LL installation.  Now Wani's video does show how to edit grub.cfg using 'Vim' software, so that the grub-screen listing of 'Ubuntu' is changed to 'Linux Lite', but his video runs so fast I find it almost impossible to clarify what he's done. Also he uses LL2.0, so the inside of grub.cfg looks a bit different to LL2.4.

Using sudo apt-get install vim I downloaded the required software but am unsure what to do next.
Any help/guidance gratefully received.

Regards
Mike
