Looking for a great way to keep Notes, create simple e-books, keep code snippets or just about anything you need to type/paste/save/file..??
Try Cherrytree, been using it now for just over 18 months, a life saver for notes and with it's search feature,
just type your notes, and find all refs in the future. I've only scratched the surface of using it.
Install via Menu > System > Install/Remove Software search for Cherrytree (it is now kept at latest version)
and if you still use Windows, there's a version available also.
So keep the file in a shared location, and access it from LL & Windows
Using Terminal I get
Quote:colin@colin-NC110:~$ wine wordpad
fixme:ntdll:NtLockFile I/O completion on lock not implemented yet
colin@colin-NC110:~$
Word Pad eventually opens OK but ---Will this cause any problems later eg Printing and Saving .
Is using the Terminal the only way to open Wine Wordpad - there is NotePad in the > wine > Programs > Accessories > Notepad but not Wordpad
I recently installed Linux Lite (dual boot). I can access the Windows XP document folder but am wondering how to access the other original Windows desktop of the dual boot? My printer won't work with Linux but am wondering if using the old XP (Windows) desktop I would be able to print as usual?
Hello,
Just over a year ago, I installed Linux Lite and started using the forum regularly.
I contributed to many threads, including this one.
Since then I have not been as active but I have sometimes came back to check on things (not logging in as much).
However, now my account and many of the other early accounts have been deleted and we have become guests, so we can no longer reply to anything with authenticity.
Personally, I don't think it is fair to keep our posts and delete our accounts without any obvious warning.
There was still reputation associated with the accounts and an opportunity to communicate, or at least acknowledge the original posters of the content as equals.
If there is an automatic expiration of accounts after a certain time period due to server limitations then the posts should not be kept either.
Honestly, I don't think it is reasonable to have to sign up again while old posts still exist that aren't linked to the accounts.
Furthermore, it discourages users from creating accounts again to help contribute as the process is tedious and any accreditation of the contribution can expire anyway.
If you have an HP laptop with Beats Audio - it takes some tweaking to make it work in Linux. I finally sat down and Google'd the various fixes and found the simplest. You need hda-jack-retask which is part of the alsa-tools-gui. Once loaded, run the program and make the following edits:
codec: IDT 92HD91BXX
under options check "Show unconnected pins"
pin ID: 0x0d, override and choose "Internal speaker"
pin ID: 0x0f, override and choose "Internal speaker"
pin ID: 0x10, override and choose "Internal speaker LFE"
Then click the "Apply now" button and then the "Install boot override" button
That's it. It works great on my DV6-7245us laptop, might work on yours as well...
This is one large barrel toy made for my nephews out some useless old stuff laying around.

Getting out is much harder lol. I'm a big guy.
Has anyone looked into this. I am aware that earlier issues of Dragon software are supposed to work on WINE. I am relcyant to run VMware + XP + Dragon as I have low laptop resources.
Purpose - writing reports etc. SOHO
Thanks.

I read some of the LFS stuff , I am not that Bright, Is there a way to learn BASIC Linux, by doing, with as few variables as possible? I think what I want is to start from the command line and do one task at a time till I learn what every thing is ,where it is, and what it does.I have a Hard drive in My CD bay, in an after market, adapter, LL2 sees it now, I partitioned it in half , It will be and aux drive, main drive 0 is 500gb, two partitions. I wanted to start with a simple thing like DMSL and go find what I need and install it. Is this a good plan? Thanks for your help past and future,, daryl de kb5zxm Magnolia Texas.
< oops>
btw I suffer from TBI and struggle to grasp things when I don't have deep understanding.
I need to import my contacts from Outlook EMail into the Linux system. Do I need to access my XP portion of the hard drive in order to reopen OUtlook to grab the file?
I'm having a hard time getting Win7 to access LL's passworded Samba shares. I understand this is a very common problem, and it seems the only solution is a group policy hack available only in Pro level Windows editions. Too bad for such an important function.
I will keep on working on that, but there is another problem I'm having at the moment.
I have configured smb.conf with five of my own shares, and deleted the stock LinuxLiteShare. I also changed the netbios name of my machine to precision, from Lappy. Neither of the two older names exists in the smb.conf file any longer.
And yet upon booting it up today, a Win7 machine not only saw my new shares under Precision, it saw the LinuxLiteShare under Lappy. There must be another source that Samba is reading from? Any insight would be appreciated.
Paul
