Hi all

Linux Lite 3.0 - Keyboard becomes non responsive after some time when using Chromium and system becomes  flakey after a longer period.

Also mouse becomes non responsive for short periods.

Closing Chromium fixes problem then after a time problem recurs.

System eventually needs hard shut down.

Would you like a System Report?

Linux Lite does not identify my CD/DVD Drive

I've used XFBurn, k3b, and Brasero software and the computer does not recognize my CD/DVD drive when I'm trying to burn an ISO image on a blank DVD.

  Hidden files and folders problem
Posted by: ronjnk - 08-17-2016, 01:56 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (2)

Hi Support,
This may or may not be a problem. When I go to my "home" folder, everything I see is proper. Hidden files and folders are hidden as they should be.

But if utilize my home folder from other programs, it displays all files and folders hidden and all.

For example: I open an image in GIMP and want to save to home folder, when I go to that folder, it displays every normal file and folder as well as all hidden files and folders. Seems to be true of any program that accesses my home folder. It never used to be that way and I have my doubts ubuntu or xubuntu has made that base change.

I'm wondering if anybody else sees this too. It all works and isn't a big deal and I can live with it but it's confusing to see all hidden system files and folders. Thanks for any input.

  I have problems in apt-get
Posted by: humdinger70 - 08-16-2016, 07:45 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (6)

A recent 'apt install' I did for some software mentioned that there were upgradable packages. When I do a 'sudo apt --upgradable', I get notifications.  They were upgrades of the kernel (from 4.4.0-22 to 4.4.0-38). Yet they don't show up under the 'Install Updates'.

Yes, I know I can do a 'sudo apt dist-upgrade' from the command line, but why aren't these showing up in the graphical update?

  QubesOS interesting, but complicated
Posted by: technomancer - 08-16-2016, 01:24 AM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (2)

I recently came across this unique  Linux OS while doing my usual nerdy web-surfing. LOL
It looks very interesting,  it would be nice if LinuxLite incorporated something like this as a spin/alt distro.
If nothing else, it is way cool. Very in depth to operate though. Intriguing if nothing else.
I have no affiliation or interest in this other than pure fun, geeking out ! LOL  8)

  Kaspersky NORansom sites.
Posted by: trinidad - 08-15-2016, 02:25 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (1)

Kaspersky Labs, a selective (on again off again) Russian partner of MS and the EU, now (August this year) maintains a free web site for ransomware victims with free decryption tools and free removal tools. I post this in off topic and not security because it mainly concerns Windows users. Take a look at these links if you have a crypto-locked box at home you haven't abandoned to the junk pile yet.

Pulseaudio configuration panel for audio just flashes on and off
Posted by: materene - 08-14-2016, 11:29 PM - Forum: Sound - Replies (1)

The configuration panel for audio just flashes on and off looking for pulse audio so therefore I cannot turn it off or disable it.  I was trying to try out different audio configurations and now it's stuck on this pulse config and a crazy on and off config panel screen.  Is there any way to disable in console and if so how do you do it.

Thanks

  Secure Boot

In the "for what it`s worth department", some who may be concerned about switching from secure boot to legacy may find this of interest. Leave it to Microsoft.

  x11vnc build differences
Posted by: trinidad - 08-12-2016, 11:04 PM - Forum: On Topic - No Replies

X11vnc Xenial based -build1 does not work properly in Linux Lite. The Debian -build 2 version works perfectly in Debian Jessie beyond 8.3. I personally like the simplicity of x11vnc and the nix fun inside and I would still like to see it produce functioning GUI tk files properly instead of falling back to the terminal in Linux Lite. I've tried a few scripts to make the Debian core independent to the LL OS but to no avail. Right now I'm considering a slack like module (I have a compiler/converter for Debian applications) but I would really like to see the thing function from the GUI properly in Linux Lite. Ubuntu has little interest (medium) because of their native vnc server. I've tried them all, and honestly x11vnc has the widest range, and most possibility. Anybody have any ideas? Chime in.
