I know this can be done, but I've got a real mental block for some reason. What I want to do is create a Menu item and then also a Launcher to install new updates. I normally just open Synaptic, reload package info, then mark all upgrades and apply. No problem for me. However, that's more than my wife is comfortable with so I decided to just create a Menu item and a Launcher. But I can't for the life of me remember how to do it and I can't seem to find directions here in the forum or via a 'Net search. I'm brain dead. I can't even enter the right search words to locate what I want to do. Can somebody help me out? Thanks.

Just finished writing a list of the best lightweight Linux distros and we included Linux Lite in the list (of course)

Any feedback? Other recommendations? Please let us know if there's anything we need to update.

  I have a five-year old HP2000 laptop that I converted to Linux Mint. After the success I've had with Lite on a 2006 MacBook, I want to convert the HP2000 to Lite as well. However, I've tried multiple times to load from a DVD and USB and I just cannot get anything to work. I've made the USBs on several tools and nothing is working. I've gone into the BIOS to get the computer to boot a DVD and from a USB and the machine still boots from the hard drive. I know I'm missing something simple but cannot figure out what it is. Any suggestions???

I want to make some you-tube style videos - guy talking into the computer, i.e. with capture from webcam and sound. I have googled and tried a few things like cheese and the guvcview in the LL software, but nothing works. Is there a simple program out there that can help me do this? I am not sure what such things are called and suspect haven't been getting good search results.


Or: can I get help in getting guvcview to run without error message on starting up. ' could not start a video stream on the device'. Cheese works fine, but has no audio.
I cannot use Skype because somebody hijacked my email and Skype won't let me cancel that account and am not interested in making a new email address just for skype.

Hi Community, i have debating whether or not to introduce myself for a couple of weeks and after a couple of libations i thought - sod it, its about time that I said Hi.

I've been using Linux on and off since about 1996.  Never to any great degree of competence, but at least I knew it was available and I had the option  .

I'm using linux lite on a woefully underpowered HP550 laptop.  It's enough for my needs though.

I recently graduated with a very obscure Masters degree in Lift (Elevator) engineering.  I mention this because its actually cheaper for us to develop the control side of things using raspberry Pi these days than any other platform!

Dabble a little with Arduino too, despite having problems getting the latest version to run, lol.  Well, we all need hobbies. 

My background is more in control systems and mechanical engineering, but i like to dip my toe in the electrickery side of things and I am considering entering the world of HAM radio with my local group.

Have to say, that although it lacks the bells and whistles of full blown Ubuntu, i am blown away by the stability and speed of linux lite.  If i ever did install on one of my faster platforms, i think that i'd still opt for this distro.

I've been using LL as media jukebox for almost 3 years mostly as music player. MPD default system service installed, USB SB X-Fi as audio source and Android as a controller. "The problem" rises when I've bought a new loudspeakers. They are probably designed without consideration of Baffle Step compensation which without produce low frequency leak and frequency balans unsettled. The easiest way compensate it is using ordinary equalizer. Unfortunately after hours of fight with alsaequal I couldn't convice it to cooperate and I've gave up. Decide use pulseaudio.

As you know (od not) it isn't so simple just set it in MPD's configuration file. Default MPD and pulseaudio have different owners so MPD couldn't reach (in a simple way) user's pulsaudio proces. We need to reconfigure MPD and use it as user service. There are many descriptions how to do it, ie:
