  Swap file ?
Posted by: arky217 - 10-09-2019, 04:04 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (5)

When Linux Lite is installed, does it automatically create a swap file ?
And if so, what size is it and where is it located ?

  Hi!

Life long (very long  :Smile ) Windows user from v3.0 to Win 10.  Over time various older laptops have come to me, usually with the horrendous slug of an OS called something like "Vesta"    ;D  :-X  (cos it'll burn you!!).  Note, I have only just finally dumped XPPro on two desktops, one a HUGE tower !!!

Last "gift" was a decent looking Sony Vaio laptop that I was asked to get working as the person's son had dropped, ripped the power socket out and his Uni Thesis was on the HDD (which jumping ahead was threatening failure on boot). Needless to say he had no backup at all.

After saving his bacon I was given the laptop.  I'm into freestyle Quadcopter flying so thought I'd make it work for that, loading Betaflight and Butterflight and Cleanflight configurators (to Vista). This OS brought them to their knees coughing. I don't have THAT long a life left to wait for them to boot and run C...O...M...M...A...N...D............S!  Wink

So, the Vaio with new cheap HDD and an old Dell are now on LinuxLite, 4.6 on the Vaio and (through date done) 4.2 on the Dell. Suddenly they respond!!!

Both run Betaflight (as an example) OK, while the program loads and runs, it lists the USB connection when the quadcopter is USB connected, but will not actually connect. Hunting around I found that it requires the USB port opening each time loaded, which I am doing (through lack of knowledge) manually.

What I'm doing is in CLI "sudo chmod +666 /dev/ttyACM0" after the prog has loaded and the Quad is connected.

Obviously I'd prefer to automate this, esp as some operations on Quads require several program boots!

Don't know how! Have a desktop icon to fire the program up, can this be altered like a batch file in Windows?  Point me at a link please as I have not discovered one?

After shutdown, screen stays on with non-spinning wheel but no noise inside.
Posted by: 1a2ows - 10-08-2019, 02:47 AM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (5)

Hello, Everyone.

I wanted to learn Linux and coding. so I got a used laptop from Craigslist and installed Linux lite to it, which had Window OS. Everything worked fine except turning it off completely.

When shut down the laptop, the screen stays on forever with non-spinning wheel on it.
Inside of the laptop doesn't make any tiny ticking noise like when it's on, and the wheel on screen is not spinning. So I assume the processor is off and press and hold down the power button. Then the laptop is completely turned off.

The laptop does show an error message when starting.
"error: no suitable video mode found.
error: no video mode activated.
error: no video mode activated."

For last 2 months of exploring Linux and learning Python on this laptop, I have not had any problem except turning it off completely.

Would anyone know how to fix this problem?

Linux Lite 4.6 Oracle Guest Additions
Posted by: kenmartin - 10-07-2019, 11:08 PM - Forum: Other - No Replies

Problem Shared folders under Oracle VM still exists in Linux Lite 4.6:

systemctl | grep vbox

vboxadd.service                  loaded active exited    vboxadd.service

sudo systemctl start vboxadd-service.service
sudo systemctl enable vboxadd-service.service

systemctl | grep vbox

vboxadd-service.service        loaded active running  vboxadd-service.service
vboxadd.service                  loaded active exited    vboxadd.service

doing  sudo adduser $USER vboxsf  works but still get Permission denied.

ls: cannot open directory '/linux': Permission denied

sudo sh
# ls /linux        Works

Is there a way for this to happen at boot time?

sudo systemctl start vboxadd-service.service
sudo systemctl enable vboxadd-service.service

Also can't get  lpr  to work to virtual USB printer. Example  ls -al / | lpr

Nice well thought out package. I will keep experimenting.

  Time synchronization on virtual machine
Posted by: max-m - 10-07-2019, 06:15 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (2)

Hello,
I have installed latest version of LiteOS in my VirtualBox machine as guest. When I'm online, everything is OK, but when I'm offline, time is slow.
For example: When I start virtual machine at 7:30 and I look to time after 10 minutes, on my host is 7:40, but on guest (LiteOS) is 7:38. After next 10 minutes on host is 7:50 and on guest (LiteOS) is 7:47...

Thank you.

My PC spec: 2.66GHz CPU ; 2GB RAM ; 200GB Free Memory ; Integrated Intel Graphic Card ;
I have problem with my DELL motherboard, I forgot my admin password.
Without it, I can't download and use Linux Lite.
I want to know does Linux Lite has some MediaCreation Tool, to download OS while using OS.

  What does this mean?
Posted by: Abw - 10-06-2019, 03:13 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (4)

Trying to update and cant. This message appears...

Reading package lists...
E: The repository 'http://mirror.unlockforus.com/linuxlite diamond Release' no longer has a Release file.
Is this something I should be concerned about? Or is it a glitch?

thanks
