Hey,

That seemed to have work thanks but now I'm back to my jittery/stuttery playback of sound.  Can you help with this?  I don't want to end up repeating this troubleshooting cycle thanks.

My first step of course though will be restarting my system and listening to other sounds to see if it's the same output.

Asking for Help:
Give as much information relevant to and about the problem you’re having and the results you are expecting. Only the information you provide can be considered in trying to work out a possible solution.

General posting:
Keep the content of each post clear. Over use of multi-coloured, bold or irregular sized fonts can be distracting.
Correct grammar and spelling will help, but posting is not a test. If a word is not in the forum dictionary, it will be underlined in red.
Bear in mind that other forum members may have a different first language to your own.
Preview your post before submitting it to check how it is going to appear using the 'Preview Post' option.

Previewing Posts:
Clicking 'Preview Post' adds a view of how your post will appear at the top of the reply page. You may need to scroll up and down between the Preview and the typing areas.  After making edits in the typing area, click 'Preview Post' again to refresh the view.

Replying to an existing thread:
At the end of the thread, you will see something like this.


There are two basic options here.

The "Reply button (indicated by the red pointer above) opens a window in which the previous post is automatically quoted in full.  Respond by typing below the quote. When complete, you may need to scroll down a little to find the options to 'Post Reply' 'Preview Post' and 'Save as draft' options.

Typing directly into the 'Quick Reply' area allows you to respond without quoting the post.  The options to 'Post Reply' and 'Preview Post' are below the quick reply area.  Note that the 'Quick Reply' area may not show the text enhancement buttons (like 'Insert Code') initially.  These buttons should be visible after previewing the post and returning to the quick reply area.

Posting a New Thread:
Before starting a new thread, check for active threads which may be discussing the exact same subject.
If there is an active thread, please add your contribution there. Please do not resurrect inactive threads.
Listing multiple unrelated issues in one thread will tend to cause the thread to lose focus.  Please restrict each new support thread to a single issue.

New Thread Location:
Explore the Forum to find a suitable location for your thread. The Forum is divided into groups of sub-forums. Help threads are usually under 'Software - Support' or 'Hardware - Support'

For example, a thread about an SSD problem would be under 'Hardware - Support' in the 'Hard Drives and SSDs' sub-forum. There is a brief outline of the type of posts which appear in the sub-forum, but not every problem will fit neatly into this categorisation.  Use the best fit possible - a thread may be moved  to a different sub-forum.




New Thread title:
Make the title descriptive, brief and specific. 'Please Help Me' is polite and brief but it is not helpful to the reader.
Thread titles may get changed to aid clarity and help people scanning for subjects.

Starting a New Thread:
In the most appropriate sub-forum click 'Post Thread' as indicated in the image below.



This will open a view like this.



Enter a title in 'Thread Subject' and your query/request in the 'Your Message' section. Scroll down for the 'Post Reply' 'Preview Post' and 'Save as draft' options. 

Including console commands and output in your post:
If pasting information associated with a console command, please copy and paste the console text in preference to screenshots.
When posting, enclose the text in code tags. The code tag button is indicated by the red pointer.



Pressing the code tag button opens a small box.  Paste the console text into the box then click 'Insert'. The data will be formatted into a code box in the post.

Including Images (screenshots etc):
Sometimes, posting an image is helpful.

In limited circumstances such as a grub problem, there is no facility to copy and paste or use screenshot.  Here a clear photograph of the screen may be used.  Transfer the image to a working system and upload it to a hosting site as described below. Depending on the camera,  if may be necessary to reduce the image file size before posting.

In more general cases, when an image is necessary, locate the key labelled 'Print Screen', 'PrtScr' or similar on your keyboard and press it.

Based on what you want to capture, select the capture region and appropriate options. Select a short delay to allow time to get the view set up before the screenshot is made. If the resulting Preview looks correct, select 'Save' and click 'ok'. Choose a location on your system and click 'Save'.

Open the saved file and check the full size image does not include any personal information.
Please do not attach or embed the image directly in your post. Use of an image hosting service is preferred.

Open the hosting site in a browser window and follow their instructions to upload the image from your system.
After uploading, copy the "link for forums" provided by the image hosting web page and paste the link into your post.

Using attachments:
If it is necessary to attach a file to your post, for example a system report, it can be attached using the attach section as shown below. The attach section may not appear when using 'Quick Reply' initially, but should be visible after doing a preview.



Responding:
If you've asked for help, monitor the thread for replies and engage with the support process.
If asked for clarification/further information or to try a potential solution please co-operate.
If your problem gets solved using help provided or through your own efforts please provide confirmation of what worked.  If your problem is not resolved and you choose not to continue please confirm that no further help is required.

Marking Thread as 'Solved':
If your support thread has resulted in a solution, you can mark it as 'solved' to help others.
Scroll to the end of your original post, click 'Edit' and choose 'Full Edit'
In the edit view that opens up locate the thread's subject.
Click the pull down on the box showing 'No Prefix' and select 'Solved'.
Scroll down the edit view to find the option to 'Update This Post' and click on it.

My computer is old PC with one AMD Athlon XP processor. I used to have Linux Mint (Maya) 13 and Mate desktop, but what I didn't like about it was processor use being all the time around 95%. On Linux Lite it is only around 40%.
So I am very pleased on the processor usage and the nice outlook of Linux Lite.

hi guys,

I am a newbie and recently I was troubleshooting my sound - which at the time was crackling - but now I have no sound, to which I sound card is not detected or is deleted.  Can you please help?  I tried following the sound troubleshooting in the manual options for my OS and this is what I got up to.

I really can't stand no sound - no music, no videos, mo' problems.  Anywho, so I have browsed a lot of different areas and I have no access capabilities which may be the problem? In the sound control panel I have no output or no sound cards to configure.

It seems to me the system is recognizing drivers and all that and when looking I'm not I have the right compatitibility either:

I've been testing the 14.04 Ubuntus. Been very impressed with both main Ubuntu and Xubuntu. I'm looking forward to the next new LTS release of Linux Lite. Any idea when we might see an Alpha/Beta/RC early version of Linux Lite?

I tend to go with smaller, personalized versions of distros.  I joined the LinuxLite community a few months ago when I needed a new distro after the one I was using was discontinued (SolusOS by Ikey Doherty).

I've been using Linux for many years at home, and even got my wife and kids to use it!

I really like the SMF forums and especially in a dark theme.  I like this theme quite a bit, but still had to modify it to be a little darker/simpler (see my sig for link even though the BBCode seems to not work fully).

Why was Libre Office selected for Linux Lite?

For me I only need a word processor so I uninstalled Libre Office. I installed AbiWord  because I think it is lighter that Libre Office's word processor. I found whenever I wanted to open a word document, I was asked if I wanted to use Libre Office first then something else where I found AbiWord. I have uninstalled AbiWord and reinstalled Libre Office's word processor because I figured there must be a good reason to use it instead of AbiWord.

If I install AbiWord and uninstall Libre Office's word processor, will AbiWord be updated when I update Linux Lite?

Can I change the preferred word processor to AbiWord?
