Google drive/SyncDrive problem |

I've recently installed Linux Lite on an HP Pavilion PC as a dual boot alongside Windows XP. I'm not techy, but I've managed to sort out most of the initial issues. Yesterday I'd been trying to install SyncDrive when LL started to open multiple copies of the package installer, without concious instruction from me, then froze. I eventually switched it off using the physical switch on the PC.
Now the system won't boot normally. I've tried various options in the recovery mode boot, but they all end up at the command line and I don't have the expertise to try to repair it from there. The dpkg (repair broken packages) option reported and attempted to fix various problems, and was still reporting problems when I ran it again. The "sudo shutdown" command eventually stops at "checking battery state [OK]" - I don't know whether this is normal.
Incidentally, Windows still boots normally.
Can anybody help, please?

Dual Layer DVD Burning in Linux Lite 1.0.6??? |

OK....I have a LG GSA-H55N DVD writer in my computer and have been trying to get it to recognize burning to a dual layer DVD. Specs on the drive say it should support the DVD+Rdl disks.....yet whenever I insert a disc, it never shows the disc as ready to burn. Have tried 3 different programs.....K3b, XFBurn, and Brasero....and a few disks.
Is there something I am missing that does not allow dual layer burning? I am trying to make backup copies of a couple disks that are over the normal single layer size.....so could use some help. Thanks.
Ken
Update....just tried loading one of the DL discs into another Windows 7 machine with an LG GSA-H55L drive and it picked right up with full capacity. So, it does not appear to be an issue with the discs or the drives.....

What is the Best operating system for 32 bit old pc, i tried some linux free one's online but i'm always having a problem with linux going into a stupid command prompt at startup forcing me to always reinstall the os. What other free operating systems are similar to windows where you just reboot and it goes into login similar to windows 7, the linux ones i've tried after i installed are always giving me a "command prompt" after installing the operating system and restarting...... linux's always won't let me get back into my desktop after restarting my system i researched all the problems i have but they never work, None of the linux Operating systems are letting me get back into the desktop no matter what i try and do? Any advise? Im new to linux and it's just annoying and i need your help.

Help! Cannot create zip/archive files |

Something very odd has happened. I have been creating zip files using Xarchiver to send tax documents (this is urgent). Suddenly, in the middle of a long session doing this, I started getting error messages and files are no longer being created. I can create a new file, but this file no longer appears/exists after creation. When I try to add files to it I get two error messages, one that the zip file does not exist or is empty (the second should be the case, but the first seems to be true as now during this process I check and the file does not appear to get created, despite the file name showing in the Zarchiver window)
The second error lists all the files attempted to add to the archive, saying their names did not match - I have no idea what this means.
I tried reinstalling all archive related files and libraries, and installed the Ark front end to see if that would get different results, but i just get the same routine in different programs.
How on earth has this happened, and how can I fix it?

8) "The Linux community is preparing to receive a number of Windows XP “refugees” after the official support for Microsoft's operating system ends in April, but until now no number had been attached to this potential group.
Tech Pro Research, a market research website that provides data about industry trends and adoption rates, among other financial information, has released an interesting study that reveals what the intentions of Windows XP users are after the support period ends.
As expected, a significant number of users said that they would be migrating to another Windows OS, but a very important part, 11% to be more exact, said that they intend to adopt a Linux operating system.
This might not seem like much, but 11% of the total of Windows users, either corporate or not, is a lot, and we might see a significant increase in the market share of Linux desktop usage in the following year."

As an XP Refugee and Mac PPC Refugee, I found it very interesting that 80% in this survey are still planning on sticking with Microsoft. Some folks never learn. Maybe some of the 37% of those planning on sticking with XP will come over to Linux after living with no support for a while. After some of the 1% price Mac machines vs. a Linux machine, they may come over too.
Regardless, Linux Lite is ready for XP Refugees and Mac Refugees.
