  Automated install
Posted by: Moretic - 09-22-2014, 08:23 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (8)

Automated installs.
Ubuntu and some other distro's support this part but does Linux Lite?
Havent seen any real information about this as of yet so I need to ask Tongue

I have had very little support from linux mint ( as an example, among a few ) in terms of my needs...
Let me break it down for you.

I work for a municipality and I take/get every single PC they discard in order to clean/wipe them and then resell for cheap.
Windows is out of the question which leaves Linux but I need to make some kind of automated install ( oem install ) thus saving time for me and my colleagues and allow end user to set the system up their own way.
Several attempts has been done to do this on other distro's and each time the entire project ends up in deadlock due to a script not running at the end of the install.
The script in question simply installs a webbrowser choice app which pops up first logon for each user ( as required by local municipality standards )
As mentioned above, the help with fixing/running said script during the automated install has been ... missing... ( and help has been asked via several distros )
This is not about branding, all logo's and names will remain as is, I just need that app installed during oem install.
Giving this is about almost 1000PCs/year it should be fairly good adverticing to which ever dist manages to help me with this Tongue
The reason why I havent had the need for linux before is that we had a special deal with microsoft in terms of windows XP... which for some time now have been without support in any way, shape or form.

So to the question, again ( as stated at the top ), does Linux Lite support OEM/preseeding?

  Native Netflix coming to Linux
Posted by: valtam - 09-22-2014, 10:22 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (12)

Hopefully within the next 2 weeks we will have native HTML5 support for Netflix in Linux Lite.

This is fantastic news as we currently have people install a wine wrapper to get it to work - that means lots of bloat on a 'lite' system Sad Once the update hits the repo's I'll test and change the Netflix installer accordingly. Please note this will only work for the Chrome web browser so those that don't have it, the new script will install Chrome as a dependency and they will have to view Netfilx via Chrome.

WLAN button not wanting to work
Posted by: Fraser - 09-22-2014, 08:54 AM - Forum: Network - Replies (6)

Hi Guys,
New to linux today so be easy on me but so far okish.

I have an HP NX9420 that was on XP. It all worked fine except the DVD.
Ive loaded on LL 2.0 and now the DVD works like a charm. Awesome.
I have connected to the net via hard wiring as I cant see any wireless network. THis is because I cant turn on the WLAN button (it has a blue light that has nothing happening) (that was working on XP this morning).
From reading other posts this is an issue but haven't been able to solve.

I managed to install rfkill;

# rfkill list all
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
    Soft blocked: no
    Hard blocked: yes

I also tried rfkill unblock all
This gave the error: Cant open RFKILL control device: Permission denied.

So basically im out of ideas so can anyone suggest something a noob can understand?

Thanks

  (SOLVED)Install new Theme
Posted by: rokytnji - 09-21-2014, 11:58 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (8)

Searched here first
https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/index...on=search2

Read the Manual
http://docs.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-settings/appearance

But as you can see. My themes are not taking in Settings>Appearance GUI. My ~/.icons change worked just fine however.

Also. Looking in

Code:
harry@harry-Latitude-XT2:~$ cd /usr/share/themes
harry@harry-Latitude-XT2:/usr/share/themes$ ls
AgingGorilla  Crux     Emacs   MediterraneanLight  Moheli   Smoke
Atlanta       Daloa    Esco    MediterraneanWhite  Raleigh  ZOMG-PONIES!
Bright        Default  Kokodi  Metabox             Simple
harry@harry-Latitude-XT2:/usr/share/themes$

These others do not show up in my 2nd screenshot either for some reason.

  [SOLVED] Expanding LL partition
Posted by: saturnfreeway - 09-21-2014, 05:00 PM - Forum: Hard Drives and SSDs - Replies (3)

Dear LL community,

Have been using LL for quite some time now and loving it. My old Toshiba Satellite is very happy too.

I'm dual-booting LL and WinXP. I'd like to give LL more breathing space. Currently I've got a partition sda2 formatted ntfs and dedicated WinXP, it only contains files and I'd like to incorporate it into LL. How do I do that? WinXP lives on sda1.

Any help would be very appreciated, thx

  Choppy video-sound
Posted by: alex1984 - 09-21-2014, 04:35 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (15)

Hi guys Smile

This is my very first attempt at any Linux based OS, and I have to say that I really like it.

I am using an old Acer Aspire One ao751h and the OS looks good and runs quick.

However, I got one issue:

I am trying to watch youtube videos on firefox and they are slightly choppy but watchable (unless in fullscreen, that lags badly), but sound skips alot, making the experience terrible.

Any idea on how this could be fixed?
Please, I am really ignorant in Linux, I can barely use the Terminal and I have no idea on how to fix this.

  Real tree view in folders?
Posted by: Monkeyman - 09-21-2014, 12:41 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (4)

Probably just missing a check mark somewhere but I can't find it.

I have multiple HDDs and each one has multiple folders and sub folders.  I'd like to be able to see each of the folders/sub folders in the tree view (on the left side bar).  I can see all the HDDs.  What do I need to do to see them?

Dual booting windows 7 with LL2 (sda) with a shared DATA partition (on sdb)
Posted by: m654321 - 09-20-2014, 04:26 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (1)

Hi gold_finger.
Previously you gave me very clear & helpful guidance on how to create a shared DATA partition with two or more distros, including LL2, and then finally binding this partition to the Documents, Downloads, Videos etc. in 'home' in each distro. This is working very well.

I now want to share a DATA partition (on sdb with swap partition), but this time shared between windows 7 and LL2 (both OSes on sda). Like you, I don't have separate /home partitions.  Though I can bind LL2.0 without any problem, I'm unsure how to bind Win 7.  Do I bind Win 7, while logged in to LL2, as I did for the LL2 binding, or do I bind Win 7 while logged in Win 7.

Many thanks for your advice.

Mike

  Backup software for LL2
Posted by: m654321 - 09-20-2014, 04:15 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (28)

I want to be prudent and back up my LL2 onto an external drive, in case of an accident...  What open-source software would any of you suggest for this?

Your ideas are much appreciated.

  simple sound recorder software?
Posted by: m654321 - 09-20-2014, 04:13 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (9)

What software can I use for a simple sound recorder with LL2, so that I can record ambient sound via my laptop's inbuilt microphone?
There is the linux software gnome-sound-recorder 3.4.0, though I suspect it wont run on LL2 as an XFCE rather than a Gnome desktop.

Many thanks in advance for any ideas?

Regards
Mike
