PCMCIA USB 2.0 Cards & Linux Lite

Hello, All!
Some of my older laptops have only one USB port, or support only USB 1.1. For the Dell Latitude C640, both of these apply. At the same time, the C640 also has one or two unused PCMCIA slots available.
Having found a cheap used PCMCIA 2.0 card at my local computer surplus store, I stuck it into the C640. The Linux kernel recognizes and supports these cards, or at least the one I purchased - a Zonet ZUN2200.
This card adds two USB 2.0 slots. This offers a 10X increase in the USB data transfer rate, and allows the use of newer USB 3.0 devices at USB 2.0 speed, as many USB 3.0 devices won't work on USB 1.1 ports.
For high demand accessories, the card also supports a plug-in cable to power the new slots from the USB 1.1 port, or an external 5 VDC power supply...

Linux Lite: 2.0
I'm trying to reinstall LL on my hard drive after losing wifi due to installing updates. When I go to install LL using the CD, I have the option to install LL alongside Windows XP. I've already installed LL alongside XP. I don't want two LL operating systems & XP installed. I want to reinstall LL over the existing LL. I believe, I have to delete one of the partitions (number 5) but it won't let me. I need to know which partition to delete. Below are my partitions on my hard drive. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

linux@linux:~$ sudo parted -l
Model: ATA WDC WD600UE-22KV (scsi)
Disk /dev/sda: 60.0GB

Ok. I have no sound or playback from Amarok when I try to use it. Now when I try to get information from the sound Icon on the trayit shows me that there is VLC and Amarok, I am assuming that only one of them can run at a time. How do I shut down the VLC? just Kill it? Then I can run Amarok?
thanks,
ohjrson

I recently was trying out the Elementary OS distro. Whay I liked was that the desktop is disabled by default. Is it possible to disable the desktop in Linux Lite?

Linux Lite recognizing & using a HP DAT 72 SCSI Tape drive

Hi all Linux Lite users!
I have just installed the Linux Lite in my home server, and also installed my HP DAT 72 SCSI tape drive, which apparently, Linux Lite can 'see it' via the information on SCSI controller, but not visible so as I can use it.
My idea is to activate such device and share it on a Windows network so as I can access it for backups from a Windows 7 workstation.
Any ideas on how to 'activate' the drive and to share it on the network?
All the best!

[SOLVED] Looking for Text editor with options to change page colour ?

Hello,
I am looking for some advice on choosing a text editor that has an option to allow me to change the page colour to a specific hex colour.
If the editor uses different colour fonts on the page for functions I would need it to either, alter those to contrast with the new page colour automatically, or have separate colour controls for each font function set so I can edit manually to contrast.

No wifi after installing updates

After looking at some of the messages posted on this forum it's apparent that others are having the same problem as me. After installing the LL updates & rebooting we are losing our wifi. Some people are reinstalling LL. My questions are: Is there a way to just remove the updates without having to reinstall LL? What is the best way to reinstall LL, is it with the CD, or is there a better way? Thanks.

SUPER slow install, boot, and run - why for?

Hello LL community, was so very excited to try Linux again - hoping this time would be a happiness. Sadly, no fun here...
The issue: It took 3 to 4 hours to install LL to my laptop, no matter what BIOS settings I try. It takes 20 to 30 minutes to boot into the OS from cold start. Once in, it takes minutes to open apps and play around with anything. Shutdowns are not possible, it goes through some dialog about quitting this and that, goes blank, then sits there indefinitely.
My solution attempts: Downloaded the ISO file twice to separate locations. Created a USB image 3 times using Win32DiskImager, onto 2 different thumb drives freshly formatted w/FAT32. Tried disabling every available hardware device possible in the BIOS. Took out HDD and booted into LL off USB stick only - still ultra slow, 40+ minutes... Ran an update of the software, which it did perform, taking another close to an hour - no change in slowness.
Attached is my system info file I managed to generate (25 minutes), so I won't duplicate the specs here again. The laptop is from Micron, and is technically a MPC TransPort X1000, which came with WinXP originally. It does run on Win 7, albeit slowly (but way faster than LL will go). The HDD is a different one I've put in for running LL exclusively, and checks out fine.
Perhaps I'm just not meant to enjoy the wonderful world of Linux, as this is my 4th attempt to use it in the last 10 years (all with issues, and on different systems). If I had to guess, it seems as if something is taking up CPU cycles and not allowing much else to have any. I did run the Resources program while in LL, and the CPU shows 100% in red color bars, but the number of running processes is 4 to 5 - and the percentages of usage don't add up to 100. Anyway, I'm at a loss as to what to try next. Driver???
I hope it's something simple, and I apologize up front for my lack of Linux knowledge - been a MS dude all these years going back to DOS. Would like to begin learning Linux and becoming comfortable with it, but not if it runs slower than molasses for me. I appreciate any help that can be given in solving this severe slowness. I look forward to trying any suggestions, or giving more info if needed. Thank you...
