Question Laptop keeps disconnecting from WIFI
Posted by: Atomler - 10-01-2024, 09:30 AM - Forum: Network - Replies (3)

Does anybody know what could cause this, and how to fix it? I have Linux Lite installed, wifi card is "Realtek RTL8723BS-V2.0 WiFi+BT" and every time after I boot up everthing works fine (mostly, sometimes even disconnects right after boot), but then after some time it just keeps disconnecting (pop ups show up every minute or so) and can't do anything about it

OS: Linux Lite 7.0.0
CPU: Intel Atom x5-Z8350
RAM: 4Gb
Storage: 64Gb
Notebook in general: MEDION E4242
https://www.medion.com/gb/service/produc...l/30024330

I just installed it, really haven't done much on it. I only did the updates (update && upgrade) and installed Firefox
Also I haven't used the notebook for quite some years, so it could be, that the error lies on the WIFI chip or whatever (tried with adapter I had lying around as well, still didn't work). Wanted to get it to run more smoothly and host obico on it.

Hi Guys,

when I try to use lite-upgrade software to upgrade from Linux Lite 6.6 to 7 I get the following error message:

Code:

When I try to execute the command as root, the output is similar:

Code:
root@machine$> lite-upgrade-series7
access control disabled, clients can connect from any host
/usr/bin/lite-upgrade-series7: line 43: /tmp/lite-upgrade.log: Permission denied
/usr/bin/lite-upgrade-series7: line 41: /tmp/lite-upgrade.log: Permission denied
nothing
user@machine$> lite-upgrade-series7

And the following message appears when i try to install the updates using the GUI.

What can I do to update the OS without reinstalling?

Thanks in advance.

How do I know if my Windows PC has UEFI?

In Windows Search, type msinfo or msinfo32 and launch the desktop app named System Information. Look for the BIOS Mode item, and if the value for it is UEFI, then you have the UEFI firmware. If it says BIOS Mode Legacy, then that’s the firmware you’re running.

Secure Boot is supported, but unless you know exactly how to handle it, it is a P.I.T.A. at best so I am going to say...you must disable Secure Boot to enable stress free computing.

Some helpful snippets from the latest Help Manual:

Fail to resume after suspend using lid and other issues
Posted by: majuamst - 09-17-2024, 08:51 PM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (18)

I am a brand new user of Linux on a 10 year old laptop with a C-60 AMD GPU. Immediately upon booting, there is a brief message, "0.004051 Common interrupt 1.55 No IRQ handler for vector" that flashes for 10-15 seconds. The computer continues to boot into LinuxLite. I am a longtime Windows user and a brand new Linux user. I am learning to like LinuxLite and have set up this old laptop to do everything the way I want, but I have one very big problem. It will not wake up from suspend. It flashes "no IRQ handler for vector" on several lines of a black screen. The error message disappears too quickly for me to copy and post it accurately for you to see. After the error message, the screen stays blank and never loads my desktop. I have tried to use hibernate instead, but I get another error message indicating that hibernate is not possible. It appears that some IRQs are not being assigned upon boot and after suspend.

I did some internet research and found that this is a known issue with AMD processors. It has something to do with IOMMU. The suggestions include turning IOMMU off in the BIOS, but that option is not provided in the rudimentary BIOS screens of this ACER Aspire One 722. Apparently there is a Linux software solution as well, but they all suggest the BIOS change first.

Sorry for the long post, but I am wondering if someone has experienced this issue and knows how to fix it. I really want to learn Linux on this old laptop and have started tutorials to navigate my way around. As we get closer to Microsoft abandoning Windows 10, I would like to convert all of my networked computers to Linux, but not if I cannot solve these types of problems.

Thank you for being here for beginners like me.
