Lately I occasionally encounter system freeze-ups and the only solution is to power-off the PC (with the power button). Is there any log that can be used to pinpoint the source of the problem? After one of those freeze-ups I booted to another distro and looked through /var/log on LL partition but couldn't find anything unusual in any of the log files.

I suspect the freeze-ups might be related to my graphics card and for now I settled on the following setup, which is stable most of the time:

I have kernel 3.18.0 installed because it seems to work the best with my Nvidia 8500 GT card and Nvidia driver 340.76. I encounter occasional system freeze-ups for the last two months, never had this problem before. The card is actually brand new, five years ago I bought two cards and just replaced the old one now.

If you have time, would Jerry and the development team consider having a weekly or biweekly (fortnightly in the Queen's English) podcast or You Tube Discussion to discuss past and future of Linux Lite, etc.?

Hi Everyone,

LL2.2 is installed on a USB stick which is my primary OS. The stick is formatted as ext4 with a swap file. Very quick to boot and shut down and a pleasure to use.

I want to create a live USB stick to demonstrate this great OS to others.

My usual way is to use USB-creator-gtk which I install using synaptic, delete the casper-rw file and shrink the partition to a minimum. Then create a new partition as ext4 (default) naming it casper-rw. If the stick is new, I then have the OS in a fat32 partition of about 755Mb and the stick remainder as ext4. Persistence is then available over the whole stick.

This works fine but is somewhat slower (obviously), than being physically installed on the stick. Still pretty good, though!

Two things:-
What does everyone think about this type of formatting. Should I reformat the stick as a different file system,- ext2 or 3 or 4 etc beforehand, or just leave it as is, i.e. fat32 and ext4.

Also, I've noticed that when using gparted in LL to resize the partitions in the new stick, gparted exits without performing the tasks. I need to use another linux OS to do this part of the stick creation.  Any comments on this.

How do I get dark Notification Area icon backgrounds in the panel of the MediterraneanLight Theme?

Here's a screenshot, to help explain:

At least My-Weather-Indicator lets you choose between light and dark icons.

I could load the other affected icons into GIMP and edit the backgrounds to be transparent, but that's a hassle. No doubt I'd have to do that for most of the new notification icons other programs add.

Since I tend towards finding the most difficult way to do just about EVERYTHING, I figured I'd ask to see if there's an easier solution out there than mine..

Just installed LL2.4b on my 10yo multi-boot test system -- awesome distro ... Much improved over LL2.2 imho.

Fwiw: I just noticed on the new whisker menu (All category) that there are TWO entries labeled "Network Connections" which display the SAME popup info; that's duplicate info. The normal XFCE-menu does not have this (redundant?) menu entry. Will continue testing ...

Live USB/DVD/VirtualBox/Vmware:

Login is automatic, no credentials required. The image can be written to a 2gb or larger USB stick, or a writable DVD. Alternatively, you can use the dd command: sudo dd if=linux-lite-2.4-beta-xxbit.iso of=/dev/sdx bs=4M where 'x' is the letter of your usb stick. In linux to find out the letter of your usb stick, open a terminal and type: df -h It is usually listed as 'media' or similar. Please see the built in Help Manual if you require a more detailed explanation of this procedure.

Hello everybody, I'm new around here but I'm not new to LL. I have used LL a lot, I have installed on several computers(I put it on my Mom's desktop along with Windows 7 and she never looked back ), overall I think is a great Linux distro(imo). Enough with the introduction, I'm here because I'm having problem with my ASUS notebook (It came with windows 8.1). I can boot and have successfully being able to install Ubuntu, xubuntu,lubuntu, Mint on it(not all of them at the same time) but for reason I can't even manage to boot LL. from a USB. I really like this OS.(as I mentioned above) and it is driving me nuts the fact that I can't even boot it from a live USB. I have a 5 years old HP-Pavilion dv7 and it just works, it's insane that I can't accomplish the same thing with my less than a year old notebook. Any help would be appreciated!
