Intermittant wireless trackball issues

No idea where this should go.
I've used a wireless Logitech M570 trackball for the past few years (since they came out). Never a problem running either Windows or Linux Lite until now. About 2 weeks ago, the trackball started getting wonky. It acted like the battery was low. Movement was jerky and sometimes I had to hold the trackball at an odd angle to get it to work. I replaced the battery a few times with no joy. I finally figured the trackball might just be wearing out so I bought a new one (same model). Fresh out of the box and I'm having the same issues. It's not all the time. Maybe 60% of the time, off and on. I'm literally 2' from the computer (and thus, the dongle).
Does this sound like a software issue (with LL) or a hardware issue (with the mobo)? Or something else? I don't have a wired trackball to compare to.

Hi,
I am a Linux neophyte so forgive me. I want a machine (building it) that will allow me to photo edit. I don't need Photoshop. Pixeluvo , will it run in Linux Lite, also is there software to open Nikon raw .nef files?
Thank you

Missing HDD

I have 4 HDDs and 1 SSD in my case. The SSD is OS only and the 4 HDDs contain my vast collection of various TV shows (mostly complete series) and movies. All 4 HDDs were shown (and working) on my desktop earlier today. Now, I'm missing one. I tried rebooting but that didn't add the HDD.
What can I do?? I need this HDD. As money allows, I plan to add extra HDDs to back up what I've got but 1TB HDDs aren't cheap.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Booting without the feather

It's just a cosmetic thing, but on some installs I get a black background with 5 small dots and the words Linux Lite above it. Then some random text and eventually the login screen. Similar text when I shutdown. I never see the Linux Lite feather and the progress screen on startup or shutdown.
On one particular build, the bootup screens had an Ubuntu theme. Running the Lite Tweak got it to show Linux Lite instead. But I never did get the feather on boot or shutdown.
Not an emergency. Like I said, it's just a cosmetic thing. But I've been scratching my head on why this has been happening.

Apologies if this has been covered before.
After playing Minecraft my Nvidia Settings are reset. Bit of a pain to keep altering my .conf file and resetting every time. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Slow HDD + 12Gb RAM = system crash

Hello,
I've got a bunch of old HDDs – ATA/SATA, 80-512 GB, Seagate, Maxtor, Samsung – a small zoo
Gigabyte P43T + E8400 + 12GB - that's desktop the only one with IDE port nearby.
So I tried to do some cleaning = moving tons of files from one HDD to another + zip some directories.
And 2.2 started to crash, even no mouse movement.
It could work for 10 minutes or died almost immediately – unpredictable.
Tried acpi=off, noapic, nolapic & etc with no success.
In the end I've found out this article:
http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/...a-pendrive
Seems lot of RAM + slow HDD is a common bug.
Code: echo $((16*1024*1024)) > /proc/sys/vm/dirty_background_bytes
echo $((48*1024*1024)) > /proc/sys/vm/dirty_bytes
to rc.local fixed that.
Just type it here in case anybody else rush into.
