I dislike Windows (Me Hate'in on Win 7) Solved
Posted by: RCND - 07-04-2015, 08:40 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (2)

Howdy All:

Venting time for me, frustration level past the redline.

Problem: Game called Mahjongg Ascension from Worlds Best Mahjongg Games by Value Soft. Includes World Jongg and Ultimate Mahjongg 20. both which work fine.

Reason for Problem: This is my Mother's favorite game. This game requires Flash Player. After about three months of weekends trying to get this to work in Wine with LL and other distro's I gave up.

I upgraded my HTPC, taking the old board which was duel boot Win 7, Mint 17 and building a new computer for her. Because this board was married to my copy of Win 7, I reloaded it and installed all her old XP software.

Everything worked perfectly. Then the hard drive started losing the MBR. I know this is the death knewld for a hard drive, so I installed a different one. (BTW this drive is still alive with LL 2.4 on it).

I've installed all software back on new drive. Now this game Mahjonng Ascension is telling me it needs Flash Player to run. I have installed it using both the included 9.0c version as well as the latest version from Adobe.

This is the problem I had trying to get it working in LL with Wine and now same problem Native?!!

Any and all suggestions welcomed. Thank you in advance.
Robert

Howdy All:

I was going to post a Windows 7 rant, but feel much better now.

I was having problems with the Bold Radio Button not turning off when no longer required.

Don't know if this is my end or a site problem. Could someone else try it and see.

Take care All.

  My Linux Lite went CRAZY!
Posted by: Alex - 07-04-2015, 06:25 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (3)

I have Linux Lite 2.4 installed on three machines and it has worked just fine until two days ago. On the oldest machine it booted up until the sign-in page then it started flashing on and off and did not proceed any further. I tried rebooting many times including in 'safe' mode but it did not fix the problem.

On one of the boots up i did notice a brief message at the top of the screen, it was very brief so i am not sure what it actually said but what it looked like is "Pg" endlessly repeated. Also duirng boot up in safe mode the word Casper seemed to occur a lot - I have no idea what it meant (no Ghost Jokes, Please! Smile )

Anyway the only thing I could do is re-install off a USB, making sure that the old installation was completely replaced. I did not lose anything important as this machine was mainly used by my grandsons for playing games.

But I would hate it to happen to one of the other two machines, so if anyone can explain what happened I will be grateful.

Thanks

Alex

Is there a Virtual Machine included in LL?  If there is,  I can't seem to find it.

  nVidia GTX 870M not detected
Posted by: m654321 - 07-03-2015, 03:54 PM - Forum: Video Cards - Replies (6)

I have LL2.4 installed with Win8.1 in a UEFI enabled dual-boot set-up - working very well.

The laptop is an Asus G750JS, and comes with a dual GPU set-up: that is a default Intel GPU, and an NVidia GPU (Geforce GTX 870M), the latter kicking in when the graphics demand is high, e.g. when gaming. This system seems to work very well in Win8.1.

However, when I boot into LL2.4, the graphics are nothing special: the 'lspci' command in the terminal indeed reveals that only the Intel GPU is detected, not the NVidia one.

My question is how can I:
(1) either silence the Intel GPU and use the NVidia one instead;
(2) or, better still, switch between either GPU whnever the need arises - I've seen online that some use software called bumblebee to do this but I have no experience in this deirection.

I've downloaded the lastest 64-bit linux driver (352.21) for the NVidia GPU from the NVidia website, but don't know how to install it properly.  I think I may have accidently deleted any existing NVidia drivers (331.67) that may have already been on the LL OS.

Any help much appreciated
Kind regards
Mike

  Wifi password not being saved
Posted by: torreydale - 07-03-2015, 01:55 PM - Forum: Network - No Replies

Wifi working at home.  Left to a friend's house.  Used their wifi.  Returning to my home, my wifi network is available, but I had to enter the password as if I were doing it for the first time.

This same issue is happening with 2 laptops I installed LL onto for friends.

After 4 days and nights and watching Michael Moore on his videos 10,000 times,  I finally got everything right and Linux Lite is now installed on a usb 3 thumb drive.  Last week I ordered a usb 3 card and installed it  in my computer.  Then I ordered a thumb drive....It's literally about the size of my thumb nail on my right hand.  It's a 32 GB usb3 thumb drive and it runs fast.
Any way I'm retired and living in East Texas, USA.  So,  hello everybody! ;D

Posted by: atomwaffe - 07-03-2015, 01:23 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (16)

Hi,
I am trying to install linux lite on my laptop, I have the bootable USB stick already with the live version but can't make the install since I have no internet connection. The laptop has an internal wlan disc but it is not on and linux doesnt see any networks (there is wifi network at my place). So I would like to ask what do you suggest me to do, I guess it needs driver but I am a beginner and don't know how to get it and install it.
my computer parameters: DELL inspiron 640m, processor 1.6GHz, RAM 1GB, Dell Wireless 1390 Mini-Card

Thank you very much, I believe this will not be an issue for you guys....could you please give me instructions that I will understand, like I said before I am a linux beginner Smile Thanks

drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO underrun

This error started showing up at boot time after updating to the 4.1.0 kernel but It would go by so fast I could never make out what it was. After much searching I was able to find it in the syslog, I have updated to the new 4.1.1 kernel but it still shows up at boot. I have not noticed any difference in my system performance, but I thought it may be affecting something I don't normally use, so I decided to report the problem to the team.  Smile
