Not sure about the rest of you, but Distro hopping is a bit of an addiction for me.  When all is said and done though it does serve to help me appreciate Linux Lite.  I always have one computer running LL but constantly try new Distros.  Some good, some not so good, some probably good but won't run on my hardware, some good but difficult to use or customize. Mint - you are great but still sometimes kind of finicky, xubuntu - fast but still a bit tough to get just how I want ... OpenSUSE - I really want to like you but you seem to make things difficult ... So far, nothing has been quite as usable, friendly, fast and worked so well, even on old finicky hardware others won't even load on!  All the little details cinch the deal ... the tweaks, the lite software center, right clicking to check md5s, etc. and still enough ubuntu in it's blood that everything works on it.

I generally experiment on some old boxes, but recently put LL 2.6 on my sort of newish (3 years old maybe?) laptop, and it it is so smooth and fast! Awesome.

Thanks Jerry and the rest of the team!

Chris

Hello All,

Just playing around with some other browsers & find that out of FireFox, Chromium, Dillo, Midori & Links 2 the only ones I can access the site & forums with are FireFox & Chromium.
Dillo will open some pages but I cannot login with it, Links 2 complains about an SSL error & Midori complains the SSL handshake fails.
I'm really starting to like Midori as it's superfast & although it's bookmark handling is poor the speed with which it does things makes up for that, in my humble opinion anyway.
Is this because the SSL support is a bit behind in these browsers?
Or is it the LL site & forums just don't play nice with them?

I just installed Linux Lite 2.6 on my son's computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. He has previously run L.L 1.06 on this machine for the last 2 years and Steam worked pretty well on it. I installed the proprietary Nvidia graphics driver, but Steam still will not launch. I also tried reinstalling it from a .deb file, and I've searched the internet with no answer. Does anyone have a suggestion?

I would like to upgrade the operating system on my Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop to 2.6 if possible and need some help. I think that this computer meets the minimum requirements but from what I have read I can't upgrade from this older version 1.0.6. So I think that I would download the ISO and boot from the flash drive and install a replacement version. That sounds easy enough but I am just a bit nervous and could use some advise. I take for granted that all added programs and files will be lost during this so I will save all I can and reinstall later.

Advise would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Les

Has anyone recently noticed instability in Libre Office - particularly regarding writer and calc.  Since recent updates I have found that s  when saving documents spreadsheets they do not open without going through a recovery process - and even then several  come up as a non recoverable file.  Only just started having problems in the last few days.  I have been using libre office as my main office workhorse for many years both on Windows and on LL without problems.

Just to be sure I have completely deleted libre office , using synaptic.  Shut down the computer, rebooted some minutes later and then reloaded libre office from synaptic , installed updates to be sure all is current etc.  Same issue.

Thanks

Is there a way to make .desktop files executable by default? I like to drag web page links onto the desktop, and if possible would like to avoid having to convert each one to a trusted executable before I can launch it.

Blessings.

Hello Guys..

This happen if i insert the drive in the USB 3 port...On the USB 2 port it work normally!!!

Anyone who already stumble upon this problem?
