Whenever I click the Linux installer link I get the following error message:

Failed to open URI "gogdownloader://beneath_a_steel_sky/installer_linux_en".

The specified location is not valid.

Any help? These are linux games I'm trying to install by the way. I'm using Chrome. I also get an error message in Firefox.

Thanks.

I'm very happy with LL 2.6 on my notebook computer.  I'm thinking of installing LL on my Dell Latitude D6410 which currently dual boots with Win 7 and Manjaro.  My Manjaro install has separate partitions for / and /home and uses the xfce desktop but a more recent kernal than LL.

If I install LL over Manjaro I'm thinking of formating the root partition, but not /home.  This would preserve my work data, music files, and application program configuration files (mostly hidden), but there is a potential confilict with hidden system and desktop configuration files.  I'd much rather take this approach and then tidy up any resulting weirdness on the desktop, but I don't want to screw up critical system functions, either.  (And if there are a few stray config files lying about that are harmless, I can live with it.)

I know a totally clean install is the safest, but I wonder how risky my plan is.  Thanks for any insight or advice you might have.

Cheers,
Andy N1KSN

Hello everyone new here to the forum. I've been using LL for several years on lots of different machines. I am getting this message "vboxclient the virtualbox kernel service is not running" on 5 different machines after recent updates everytime the computers start or restart. I dont have Virtualbox and need to know how to get rid of this message. Thanks in advance.

Hi all
I have bought a HP Splash netbook with Win10 pre-installed. It has only a 32Gb which I will only use for my OSs with a 32 Gb fast Sd card for my Data . How things have changed . On win95 the PC only had something like a 6.5 Gb hard drive .

LL is my preferred OS but  I find there are certain times that I find I have to use Windows for some tasks . On my old machines I have LL dual booted with Win 7 . Plus LL with XP .

I would be happy to use XP  offline as my other OS as I have used that more than Win7 .Unfortunately the Windows licences are all OEM versions and so I cannot transfer them to a different PC .

I am looking to hear if anyone has had a good experience running LL with Win 10 on a Virtual Machine  or would the advise me to  Dual Boot with Win 10 on a UEFI bios Netbook .

I am hoping you can help me with a bug I have with my new computer.
It is a gigabyte ga-z68ma-d2h-b3 MB and the problem is how to set the audio so I get the full 5.1 sound. At the moment I am only getting audio from the front speakers when I do a test "speaker-test -DplugConfusedurround51 -c6 -l1 -twav" .
Do I have to change the settings somewhere?, as the mb is I have to use the mic and Line in plugs at the back, which I have done, but don't appear to be getting the surround sound from them, Hopefully you can give me the answer I am trying to find, so far in vain, Thanks in advance.

Hi, My printer is CANON MG5350, and I'm trying to print coupons, but it won't print the barcode on it for some reason, looks like some protection.

I've looked online and other people had problems with their Windows and MAC computers also.
Some people recommended to use Adobe Acrobat.

I use official printer drivers.

What should I do?

First time they were half printed, but then the printer stopped printing the barcodes completely.

Oh and the file format is PDF

I am trying to use a file manager to get files off my android phone and copy them to a directory in my linuxlite PC.  The problem is that when using Thunar (for example) to copy a photo from the phone to the computer, the file ends up with a new creation date for the date/time it was copied, rather than the date it was created, and this makes sorting by creation date impossible on Linux Lite.

This problem is fully described here in regard to Nautilus http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2187432&page=1  and it is exactly what I am experiencing in Thunar and LL.

I have used grsync to transfer files and that works to preserve the date, but I really want to use a file manager as I do this all the time.

Does anyone know of a file manager that explicitly has the "preserve date stamp" option that grysnc offers?

thanks

I see THIS from that thread, but that doesn't help me now....  Any ideas for the present would be appreciated.

UPDATE 2 October 2015: GREAT NEWS! THIS BUG HAS FINALLY BEEN FIXED in time for UBUNTU 15.10.
The gvfs package has been updated and contains a fix! Timestamps are now preserved.

First, I am a Linux newbie.

I only installed Lite 2.6 two days ago. I totally replaced Win XP, even set up the partitions as suggested when I asked on this forum. The installation went well, I think as I was able do the installs at first start up, set the screen how I wanted it etc.

Anyway today I turned on the computer and it has been loading for the last 45 minutes and has not gotten past the splash screen. I rebooted and got a screen with the following:

GNU GRUB version 2.02 ~beta2 -9Ubuntu 1.4
Description: Linux Lite 2.6 GNU/Linux
Advanced options for Description: Linux Lite 2.6 Gnu/Linux
Memory Test (Memtest 86+)
Memory Test (Memtest 86+, serial console xxxxxx)

At the bottom of the screen along with the up and down arrows for selection etc.

Press Enter to boot selected OS, 'e' to edit Commands before booting or 'C' for a command line.

Can this problem be fixed?
The computer I'm using is not very new. Pentium 4, 3.06 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 1TB Hd. As for Drivers, not sure what to look for but the mob is a D915GAV. Hope someone may have an idea what's going on.
