  Deluge doesn't work
Posted by: Monkeyman - 06-14-2016, 09:04 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (2)

LL 3.0 on laptop (installed 2 weeks ago on a new SSD).  I've used Deluge on my desktop (currently on 2.8 but I've had it since 2.2) and never had any issues.  Installed Deluge on my laptop when I installed LL.  Works intermittantly since.

Any suggestions?

  How to Install Free Sophos-av
Posted by: tomt - 06-14-2016, 03:57 PM - Forum: Tutorials - Replies (12)

A little bit of time and patience will give you a free anti virus that will run in the background and can be updated and you can run scans daily or whenever and it prevents malware before it can damage your system.

Download from Internet "Free Sophos-av for Linux" and save file. Extract file to downloads.

Start here and follow directions  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QH9gRThLEag

After Installation is complete use this to update and scan and or remove the Sophos if you don't want it.

System is booting up. See pam_nologin(8) ubuntu
Posted by: valtam - 06-14-2016, 03:12 AM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - No Replies

Booted up my computer today to find this message, and a tty:

Code:
System is booting up. See pam_nologin(8) ubuntu

Tried to login repeatedly with no luck. All I had to do was reboot and everything was fine again.
Thought I would post this as there are quite a few instances of this around the internet. Fortunately on Linux Lite, a reboot was all I needed.

Congratulations on such an amazing Distro
Posted by: mike_tr - 06-13-2016, 07:33 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (2)

Hi, I am a long-time Windows user and have been really impressed with Linux Lite. I have tried a couple of live DVD's of other distros for short periods of time, and can only blame myself for not making more effort to understand Linux. The problem I had in the past was getting basic programs to work after updating. A week later after a "rolling release" update some key programs no longer worked (Browser for example). Other distros had problems finding my sound or wifi (which I understand because of so many different pieces of hardware) and after a couple of days of trying to compile with a command line a working driver (I think thats correct, its been a while), and the distro giving me really small partitions for some reason and telling me it wasn't happy about that, I gave up.

Linux Lite led me by the hand, and installed perfectly. I love the lite software installer, because last time it was a Synaptic Package Manager I think which was a bit much for a newbie, and found it quite confusing when all I wanted was a browser, Skype, Audacity, a photo viewer and VLC. Even my friends I showed this distro to said " Hey! even I can understand this" and are now trying Linux Lite. This really bridges the gap for Windows users who want to try Linux, but don't have enough time for the learning curve needed to get started.

Congratulations on such a great distro, in my opinion if any version of Linux is going to move users away from Windows, it will be this one.

Hi everyone, I am new to Linux, although I have tried a couple of live DVD's of other distros for very short periods of time. This one has been really great :-)

Can't find Screensavers in the Menu

Just loaded Linux Lite 3.0 64 bit. Can't find Screensavers in the menu. Even if I type screensavers in the Application Finder, nothing comes up.

Boot error when Linux Lite not first (default) choice in grub menu in dual-boot
Posted by: hughparker1 - 06-12-2016, 07:24 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (4)

I installed Linux Lite 3.0 successfully on my DELL Inspiron 5559 alongside Windows 10 and it is working great. I noticed the entry in the grub menu looked strange, it had the word *Description: in the menu, it looked like...

Quote:*Description:    Linux Lite 3.0 GNU/Linux

But it was working ok so I'm not too bothered about the name as long as it works. I then decided to also install Xubuntu alongside LL3 so I could use both over next few weeks to determine any differences.

Xubuntu is now the default OS in grub menu with an entry for Linux Lite 3.0 beneath as I expected (minus the word *Description: ). Xubuntu is working ok but when I select LL3 I get an error message that says "a filename was expected".

I had a look on google and found this similar incident ....
https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/insta...d-distros/

... where gold_finger suggested

1. Boot computer with live Linux Lite USB

2. Mount the Linux Lite root partition

3. Install grub to the MBR of sda drive

4. Boot computer normally again and Linux Lite should first (default) choice in grub menu, and other OS further down menu.

So I tried this and it worked for me also, so thanks to gold_finger for such an easy solution.

Is there any way to avoid this happening again in the future, or is this the best workaround? It's no big deal, I just wondered if I could avoid the same thing happening again.

Linux Lite 3.0 on a Netbook
Posted by: Ottawagrant - 06-12-2016, 06:04 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (19)

I have a Acer netbook (Intel Atom/1 gb.) that I have installed Linux Lite 3.0 x32 on & in autostart have turned off bluetooth/Print Queue/Systemback scheduler, as I do not need them. Is there anyone who is using LL 3.0 on a netbook, or who can make suggestions, on how to speed it up. No complaints about Linux Lite. Netbooks are cheap, low end items. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would not say it runs terrible, I am just looking for any ideas to 'make it a bit better'. Thanks once again to everyone.
