Jerry
I noticed today that once you login as administrator via the GUI in Thunar it persists throughout the session even though you close Thunar, but that root persistence doesn't actually seem to be there in Thunar itself on Linux Lite, calling for a new login if you want to use root again. When opening it again during the session you still have root permissions in other FM incidences though. I tested this opening another file manager to a gvfs (Double Commander) and the root path to .gvfs existed there even though Thunar window was closed after a root session. In SolydX a warning window will appear giving you the option to exit root in Thunar when you reopen Thunar during a session. There is a quirk involving XFCE and Debian systemd when using a root permissioned file manager to move or delete large files on external drives or remote file systems. One can close Thunar unaware if deletions are completed in some cases, and shut down, and be unable to login after rebooting because a root login is expected, which is not possible from the GUI on a properly installed Debian system. Not sure if this affects Linux Lite the same way, but I think the warning window and logout option is a good idea.

Every time I run  Install/Remove Software  I keep getting a failed notice and to manually run  'dpkg-configure-a'
I guess this means typing it into the terminal......but when I do it says no known command.    And the  Lite Software doesn't work.....It says it can't find the package list.    Do I need to reinstall my 3.0?

Better contrasting boot screen, eject message can now clearly be seen at the end of the installation.
Dual booting also, playing nicely with other OS's. A first look at the new Lite Desktop Widget. Apologies for the quality, I'm no Steven Spielberg.
8 second boot time from Grub on a very old Acer Aspire, not bad!

A sneak peak, and some of you hearing my New Zealand accent for the first time Smile

I'd like to gauge which of the following wallpapers the community favors. You are allowed more than one choice.
Most of these are 'animals' as there were none represented in Linux Lite 3.0

Thank you Smile

Lite made it to the heart in decent sized letters.

I haven't installed Linux Lite yet, and I'm researching my options.  Linux Lite appears to be in first place; definitely for everyday computing for my family and I, and possibly for other things as well.

However there are always applications that a person is not sure about (true for any operating system), and at the top of my list would be Android Studio, including running its built-in emulator.  The web site says you need KDE or Gnome, and I was wondering if Android Studio would work in an out-of-the-box Linux Lite 3.0 xfce environment.  And even if so, how stable would such a set up be? (My definition of stable in this case means free from conflicts and crashes, the overall stability of Linux Lite is one of the things that attracted me to this distro).

P.S., I'm a linux beginner but I'm eager to learn

Just read in the latest Linux User Magazine that 4.8 is probably going to support the Surface 3,
and the speculation is that it will run Linux better than Windows on the Atom CPU...!!!

The good news is that this has now become available as the following .deb package package:
fluxgui - 1.1.9~20160808-g4125e70-1~xenial

Downloadable from:
https://launchpad.net/~nathan-renniewald.../+packages

I tried it and it works excellently.  They have updated some parts of it, e.g. they've included more choices of colour temperatures down to 1700K, so I'm now typing this to the colour temperature of a burning match...

Mike
