Release Announcement

Linux Lite 3.2 Beta is now available for testing. There have been a number of changes since the 3.0 release. See below for all the changes.

Lite Desktop Widget - A new optional feature that displays basic system information, including Updates Status that reports the last time you installed Updates. A portion of the code for this widget was outsourced, so thank you to those who support and donate to Linux Lite. To enable this after installation, go to Menu, Settings, Session and Startup, Application Autostart tab, tick Lite Desktop Widget.  Logout then Login again, the widget will appear at the bottom right hand corner of your screen after a few seconds of logging into your Desktop. If you want transparency for the widget, go to Menu, Settings, Window Manager Tweaks, Compositor tab, tick Enable display compositing. The Updates Status will refresh information every 5 minutes eg. 5 minutes after you update, the status will change to Your system was recently updated providing there were any updates installed.

The Lite Desktop Widget shows 5 stages of Status (color coded messages):

Red - system is overdue for updates, update now
Green - system was updated within the last 3 days
Yellow - a reminder that it's time to update your system

1. System never updated - displayed after a fresh install of Linux Lite
2. Your system was recently updated - will display 5 minutes after updates have been applied
3. 6hrs since your last update - hourly update reminders
4. 4 days since your last update - after the 3rd day, the reminder will turn yellow
5. 8 days since your last update - after the 7th day, the reminder will turn red

Grub - Linux Lite should now multi boot with other distros, whilst remaining easily distinguishable to Windows folks in a dual boot environment. I look forward to your feedback in regard to these changes.

Hi,

Is there a self step-by-step procedure I can go through to eliminate hardware/application/driver/operating system issues?  Especially so that I can best google a solution to a problem.  That's kind of the general question, but I'm kind of looking for a general flow of operations, in addition to finding an answer to my specific issue.

Here is my specific question:

When I first installed LL 3.0, the mouse worked extremely well and was fully responsive.  I went through the full session with no slowdown, except when I had too many browser windows open, which is my weakness because I'm always "opening in new tabs".

But each time I've logged in, the mouse has gotten a little more slower and now it frequently gets frozen.  Also I've noticed that the problem occurs earlier and earlier in my session, to the point it is frozen almost immediately after turning the computer on and even when the computer is supposedly idle.  However, the graphics still appear to update at the correct rate, the keyboard can still type, and I can open a terminal using the keyboard shortcut.

How can I eliminate each possible reason, starting with the least dramatic (what a regular user can do) to most dramatic (sudu & use with extreme caution, but still reasonable), for this situation.

The LibreOffice version that comes with LL 3.0 64bit is very buggy.
Writer crashes often when copy and pasting text or images. It happens on my wifes laptop Dell Latitude E5400 and mine E4300.
What can be the couse of this?

I've made the switch to Abiword/Gnumeric and Dia. No alternative found for Impress yet.

Hi I have a Dell Lattitude D620 and just installed Linux Lite 3.0 When I put in my WiFi password it seems to connect out to the modem but says credentials are wrong. They aren’t wrong, so I am stumped. Seriously, I looked and looked and typed really slowly - the password is going in right. Any idea?

Two months ago, I remember responding to a frustrated Linux Lite 3.0 user who wrote, "no wonder LL has fallen down so much on distrowatch."  I looked today and noticed the following.  If you look at Distrowatch's Page Hit Ranking for the Last 6 months, and you removed the distros that have been around longer than 4 years, this is what you would get:

1) Ubuntu MATE
2) LXLE
3) Linux Lite

So on its 4th anniversary, Linux Lite is 3rd of the distros that have been around 4 years or less.

Cheers!

In order to get this printer working you need to go to

http://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadt...340cdw_all

And follow the directions.

The first time I installed Linux Lite 3.0 those instructions didn't work at all.  However they did kinda work with Linux Lite 2.8.  I couldn't use the on board scanner though.  Couldn't scan directly to the computer.  Ended up taking Linux Lite 3.0 off the computer and putting something else on in place of it.  Yesterday I was doing some testing with a different hard drive and I went through the steps of installing Linux Lite 3.0 and updating it.  This time around I was able to get the brother instructions to work.  I haven't tested the scanner.

I was wondering if the driver to this printer could be added to Linux Lite so that we don't need to keep downloading it?

From time to time my pc gets invaded by Tavanero which annoys me as I cannot browse properly, or securely.
I've tried a few times to be rid of it by syncing Google but my latest attempts have failed so maybe I have forgotten how to do it this time round.
Has anyone a suggestion of how I can go about removal please?
Thank you
