WINE - Installshield Installer says no internet connection...
Posted by: maciaccio - 06-09-2017, 06:55 PM - Forum: Other - No Replies

Just installed WINE and mono and other suggested addons at time of WINE install...trying to install my main work program - Total by Alamode - real estate appraisal software.

The Installshield installer needs to connect to Alamode servers to verify my product registration, but says I do not have a valid internet connection - but I do - wired and wireless both active.

I do not see any internet settings in WINE config...

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

  Modernizing Wallpaper and Symbol(s) (icons)
Posted by: sanmayjoshi - 06-09-2017, 01:51 PM - Forum: Member Submitted Artwork - Replies (4)

Hello Everyone, Smile

It's been a month(roughly) since I started using LL, and the experience has been more than awesome! LL is certainly a lot stable OS.
LL also looks quite good, but I think there may be some improvement in looks.
    1. The default wallpaper may be reconstructed as per some modern trends, which includes-flat, simple and sleek design and etc. (well, you get the point  Wink )
    2. The same may be said in case of symbol.

Any suggestions over the color combination to be used or to include some parts or images already designed or any general suggestion is whole-heartedly welcomed.

Thanks,
Sanmay

Edit: Thread for Flat wallpapers may be found here.

Is it Possible to Use ‘Something Else’ to Resize Partitions?
Posted by: Mart - 06-08-2017, 11:01 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (6)

I want to resize/shrink my root and home partitions to free up enough space at the end of my drive to install and dual boot a second Linux OS. Of course, I plan to keep Linux Lite as main driver. I’ve considered using Gparted but find it awkward at best and have read that applying a lot of changes in GParted can take a long time, in some cases a couple of hours or so. I don’t want to do a fresh install and resize my partitions that way because I want to keep my system’s customization. So the solution I'm going to ask about here might seem a bit crazy, but bear with me. I saw a video tutorial by quidsup called ‘How to use Partition Editor in Ubuntu Installer’ -here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OU_dkeFprhY

In this YouTube video, quidsup re-installs Ubuntu, but more interestingly resizes his Windows ntfs partition but doesn't format it, so preserving it. So this got me thinking. To preserve an existing home partition (when doing a series install/upgrade in Linux Lite, for example) you would also leave the home partition unformatted to preserve it. So would it be possible to resize my root and home partitions using the ‘Something Else’ manual installer in the live Linux Lite usb, but leave them both unformatted in order to preserve them, and then proceed to click ‘install’ as required to complete the process (assigning grub to /dev/sda as normal). Would this destroy my OS, or instead preserve my customized OS with suitably resized partitions and new free space for my dual boot? Feedback please.

Freshclam AV suddenly using 50-80% CPU
Posted by: maciaccio - 06-08-2017, 10:56 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (12)

I tried to install Freshclam AV last week. At the end of the process, I got an error regarding a config file not found, and it did not seem to finish the install.

Looking for Freshclam AV from the Whisker Menu or App Finder, it does not show, but if I type it into the search box in Whisker Menu, I see a 'gears' icon with 'Run Freshclam' text - but nothing happens when I click on it.

Suddenly today, my CPU is maxed at or near 100% and my CPU is running dangerously hot, around 90-deg C, with laptop placed 12-inches from a window AC. This laptop hits fatal temp at 94-deg C.

Checking 'show all processes' in Task Man shows Freshclam using between 50-80% CPU, but the graph shows solid 100% total CPU usage since startup.

Here is the install log from Freshclam last week - note that this just started today, after two weeks of no CPU issues in LL, and at least one week after Freshclam install attempt.

Task Manager - how to sort by columns...CPU, etc.
Posted by: maciaccio - 06-08-2017, 10:02 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (7)

In Task Manager, clicking any of the column headers (PID, RSS, UID, CPU) to sort values high-to-low or vice-versa will change the sort order of the 'Task' on the right side of the panel, but it is not sorting correctly based on the desired column.

For example, clicking on 'CPU' header results in the tasks with highest CPU usage to be mixed among the tasks with 0% CPU usage.

Is there a fix for this?

Thanks

  Change Window resize tolerance globally?
Posted by: maciaccio - 06-08-2017, 09:56 PM - Forum: Other - No Replies

How do I increase the tolerance for window resizing with the mouse? It is difficult with a mouse and even more so with a laptop track-pad.

I have looked in all of the settings in the Settings Manager> Appearance, Desktop, Window Mgr, Window Mgr Tweaks, Accessibility, Mouse/Touch-pad, even the Settings Editor.

Is this similar to the post about resizing the scrollbar globally? If so, what is the syntax to add to gtkrc-2.0?

Thanks
