Here's my latest little blog post, and it offers important reasons why Windows is so susceptible to viruses and malware.  Not just the standard cop-out answer, "well, most people use Windows so viruses are written for it," but three major fundamental flaws that make Windows especially vulnerable.

The video is is kinda geeky, but I kinda broke it down for us non-geeky people.

Enjoy!

I installed LL 3.8 on an HP Mini 2133. Part of the keyboard can be used as a number pad by holding the Fn key. The number pad is always on unless I hold the Fn key down.  Is there a way to fix this?

This is an old Dell Inspiron 1720 that has been running fine on LL 3.8 till recently.  The youth using it mentioned that on occasion he wasn't able to connect to the internet, then other times he was able to do so.

The current issue is that while it does consistently "connect" (or show it is connected) when he/we pull up Firefox the page is blank with the exception of the menu bar and url line and in the upper right corner the "dot" keeps going back and forth indicating it is trying to connect.  It is running Firefox quantum 65.0.1 (32 bit). I even try pulling up google on it and same thing.  I have tried refreshing Firefox, still no change.

Also for whatever reason despite having a user name and password, when it is turned on it no longer asks for user and password...

I'm thinking with it acting weird maybe the hard drive is on the way out..?

I'm at the point that maybe I will simply reload LL3.8 (previously I believe I upgraded from LL3.4), but I'm not sure if this will really change anything...

Despite the above, it can still act as a study information source as so far accessing the study info (videos, exams, etc) still seem to function.

Does anyone have any insight or suggestions?

I have run a system report and have it saved.

hi ,i'm new to Linux. I've installed lite cause my machine is an older laptop.
I've noticed after a reboot everything works great but eventually everything slows down over time.
for instance after reboot i can watch a movie without hassles, but if i do other stuff for awhile and THEN want to watch a movie it doesn't play properly,i have to reboot then it'll play fine again.
i'm thinking its a hardware issue?not sure cause before had Win7 on an never had a problem.
is there maybe any settings i'm missing somewhere?

This problem seems to pop up sporadically lately with some of these older (era 2007-2010) laptops on which I have put LL3.4-3.8 and I am unsure why this occurs.

Essentially laptops where they previously showed the active networks available listed under the "WiFi networks", now the "WiFi networks" is grey and no choices show.  I can connect to my WiFi by clicking on "Connect to Hidden WiFi network...", but this will not be user friendly to the youth with whom I place these computers as I believe they may need to know more info to actually connect to new network...

Would someone be able to tell me how I can get the "available networks" to show up? and maybe explain why this is happening?  I don't believe it is happening simply because I have checked and installed updates, I recall one of the youth saying it simply started on his laptop and he would not have been doing any updates.

Web browser games have advantages and disadvantages to them, both significant. First, the advantages are that these games are easily accessible on all platforms employing web browsers supported by the game, meaning, even non-PC users can enjoy them. These games are also free to play most of the time, as well as being popular due to easy accessibility. They do not require doing any installations or maintaining of any local software, save for the multipurpose web browser itself. For the negativity of cheating - the corrosion of any longevity - the cheating can still be present, as nothing is entirely crackproof, but maybe to a lesser extent, since hacks would need to come as plugins, I imagine. Disadvantages are that these games understandably have to keep it simple enough on the surface level. Performance can be limited at times. There is the little amount of customizability as well. Some people may also claim playing through a web browser is less comfortable and less stable to having a software installed actually on the machine. What I recommend, is to turn the fullscreen mode on when playing, in order to avoid jumping out of the window accidentally.

Recommendable web browser games that I know of - links:

A Dark Room
Famous minimalistic game tresspassing conventions, by Michael Townsend.

Surviv.IO
Popular, topdown view battle royale with amazing gameplay quality.

Little War Game
Real time strategy game with impressive level of customizability.

SuperHot prototype version
Played SuperHot? If not, this is your chance to see what is it about.

Contre Jour
Wonderfully looking sideview platformer.

You can also try to google out some of the classic titles, such as Minesweeper, Solitaire or Sudoku.

What I think could be interesting for aware Linux users in these games, is that they were not developed for any other operating system in particular, which means, they go above and beyond the problem of local compatibility, causing so much controversy - especially as of lately - in the community.

I want you to think Coke Lite first.

Now I want you to think Linux Lite.

Sometimes I am wondering, why is Linux Lite so underappreciated in the verbal advertisement going around in the Linux world, such as, why is Linux Lite not even included in many pools for favourite distro?

Then it hit me. Because this distro, is what the Linux world is afraid of. It pronounces the fate of Linux as sedimenting to a crystal, possibly closed source structure, where Linux becomes a product, eventually rolling out with a Lite version of own self.

Paranoia? Too much abstract thinking? What did I take to pop up with something like that?

No, I say, metacognition. Just try to connect the dots which do not seem so obvious.

But I think Linux Lite is a perfect distro. That is why, the worse for it.
