Linux lite newbie problems - puppyfat - 04-08-2019

I have installed 3.8 on my low spec Asus eee 1005HA because I read it was the best choice for such a machine. Installation went well but the standard keyboard (not extended) produces rubbish. Have selected various UK keyboard options - so many! - no improvement; turning off Number Lock bios offers no option on this. No matter what I do still rubbish. Characters appearing no relevance to the letters on the keys. As is it is unusable. Help appreciated or I'm afraid LL will have to be dumped. Have also turned number lock off using Fn key. No improvement.

Forgive me if you already thought of this, but did you check the MD5sum on your downloaded copy?  It sounds like it got corrupted during the download.  That's always the first thing I check if I have problems like that on a brand new installation.

Have you tried Lite Tweaks, there's an option there to enable/disable Numlock

This could be the FN function key on keyboard.

Press FN and ESC to enable/disable.

Thanks for this suggestion, because I got numbers instead of letters when typing u i o p j k l  m and probably all the other characters on the right side of the keyboard.  I did figure out that the Fn key solves the problem but only 1 key at a time, so I will run another pre-install test before I put Linux Lite 4.4 on my notebook.
