Hi
I've been using Linux Light for a short time. I have a linux partition that I would like to make accessible to everyone. But some how I can't. Have a look:
Code: root@jay-VirtualBox:/mnt# ls -lh
total 4,0K
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4,0K sty 1 1970 B43D-88E0
root@jay-VirtualBox:/mnt# chmod a=rwx B43D-88E0/
root@jay-VirtualBox:/mnt# ls -lh
total 4,0K
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4,0K sty 1 1970 B43D-88E0
as you can see after trying to grant all privileges to everyone they remain the same. The last line still shows that group and others do not have write permission. What is the issue here?
thx

Graphics Cards in Intel NUC units: Comparison with a gaming laptop (Asus G750JS)

In looking for a replacement for my dead gaming laptop (Asus G750JS), I've been looking at the Intel NUC mini-computers (not the fanless ones), as well as PC towers. One of the considerations was to have a GPU/CPU system that would be good enough for some gaming e.g Supertuxkart, Roblox, as well as the usual day-to-day admin tasks.
To enable comparisons, I used https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/ then checked costs at https://www.amazon.co.uk/ and presented the data as a spreadsheet table. I thought I'd post my finds here, as they might be useful for anyone considering the GPU & gaming capabilities of some of the Intel NUC units that are available at the present time.
In the link below, graphics cards are arranged in order, performance decreasing as you read across the table from left to right. Unfortunately, the benchmark website didn't have any data for the Intel Iris Plus 655 graphics card - I assume this is because it's very new on the market. I've included details of my dead Asus gaming laptop for a direct comparison:

How Can I Make Lite Own Grub?

I have both Lite an Kubuntu on same drive. Kubuntu currently owns Grub. I want Lite's grub, because it (very intelligently) remembers the last system that was used, which is usually Lite. I'm probably going to jettisoning Kubuntu eventually, once I figure out how to do so safely (so Lite still boots). Until then, I have to choose Lite every time I boot, as Kubuntu is always the default in its version of grub.
Thanks,
Mike

How should I find and delete duplicate files?

Hi everyone,
I've been consolidating files from a few different external hard drives onto my laptop, and I want to delete duplicates. I've searched around a found a few different ways to do this, but still need some direction.
I installed the dupeguru_4.0.3~trusty_i386.deb package from https://dupeguru.voltaicideas.net/, but now I can't open it. I realize it was made for a different Linux OS--is that the problem?
And I don't understand how to use fdupes or fslint (though I understand from the forums here that fslint has given people problems.
Thanks for any help!

Think about changing an old desktop computer's battery

Was reading the forum this morning about selling Linux Lite on refurbished laptops. JesusLinux mentioned about changing the battery on refurbished computers:https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/on-topic/linux-lite-branded-laptop/msg46021/?topicseen#msg46021I just wanted to mention that if you are using a computer that is around 10 years old, you might want to think about it anyway. A family member gave me a Lenovo M58p they were having trouble with. The BIOS needed to be updated as it was way out of date. But the big clue was that when the power was disconnected from the computer the BIOS date would revert back to 2009. The date the computer was manufactured. The clues were there, and the answer was simple. The CMOS/BIOS battery needed to be changed. Here's the good news if you're thinking about doing it. The batteries are cheap to buy. They are standard 3 volt coin batteries. In North America you can buy them at Dollar Tree, Dollararma, etc. Three to a pack for $1.00 - $1.25. On an older Lenovo or HP Compaq it takes longer to get the battery out of the package than it takes to change it. So if you're using an older desktop, something to think about. Laptops would be a little trickier. Web search time.

Two part Question About Dual Booting

I currently have Lite and Kubuntu on same hard drive. I have found that I prefer Lite. If I get rid of Kubuntu, and expand the Lite partition to the whole hard drive, how can I make sure Lite will still boot OK? Currently, Kubuntu "owns" Grub as it did the last update for it.
Second part: I am also going to replace Kubuntu with Lite on my wife's laptop. Email isn't working right on Kubuntu so she isn't using it. If I just manually install Lite to the partition that Kubuntu is on, will that work? By work I mean, will both Lite and Windows 7 boot?
