Previously I've had no problem installing and using miniDLNA on my local network, when I was using an old 32 bit notebook machine, several LL versions ago.
However, I've now tried to make miniDLNA a server on my main 64bit LL 4.2 machine, and I'm having problems.
I installed it from Synaptics, and it appears to be running as a server.
Code: sudo service --status-all
I've also got sqlite3 installed, and after the /etc/minidlna.conf configuration has done the usual
Code: sudo service minidlna restart
Code: sudo service minidlna force-reload
Which has created the database, where I told it to, although the log does list some warning. Which I might need to get back to.
However, my client/controller machine (notepad) cannot see the server, and only sees the renderers.
Finally I realised that this is probably due to the server firewall, which is now by default set to ON.
In order to allow miniDLNA to work, I believe I have to open the TCP port 8200, and the UDP port 1900.
Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a tutorial on the firewall yet (hint)
So, can anyone help on exactly how to open those port up, and ideally only to the local network.
Many thanks in advance.

| Linux Lite OS 3.8 update help |

Hello to all members,
I'm using Linux Lite OS 3.8 loading .Iso DVD image from hard disk (Live-HD mode). Because Ubuntu features I updated all my system, with the exception of booting kernel, wich remains at 16.04.4 release. Loading .Iso image from hard disk boots original Lite 3.8 kernel into readonly file system (/cdrom).
I want to know how I can update vmlinuz and initrd.gz files, doing commands into a separate folder to get these files updated to 16.04.6 kernel release. I suppossed task is related to update-initramfs command.
Anyone can help me?
Thank you in advance. ;-)

I have been using Linuxlite for a few years now and am currently using 4.0. I installed it last fall and haven't had any issues with it. Until today. This morning I shut down my computer normally, but when I turned it back on this evening, it asked me to login on startup; I had it set to log me in automatically, so I thought this was weird. But then it wouldn't accept my password. I made sure caps and numlock weren't on but it still won't let me in. I haven't done anything unusual lately or noticed any strange behavior until this happened. Can someone tell me what is going on? Have I been hacked? What can I do to get back into my computer?

| Is there a way to access BIOS on a used Lenovo Ideapad G580 2689 ? |

Following the death of my Asus laptop, I swapped it with someone for a third-hand Lenovo Ideapad G580 model 2689 notebook. It has Win8.1 pre-installed in UEFI mode - I would like to dual-boot it with LL, in Legacy mode.
However I'm unable to access the BIOS or Boot Order to allow me to do this.
The 'novo' button doesn't work, only showing a menu with 4 options - clicking on any of the options and it just boots into the Win8.1 user account. Apparently the software that allows the 'novo' button to access BIOS or Boot Order, is on a partition of the drive that was originally shipped with this laptop - being a 3rd-hand laptop, my guess is that's long gone!
So I tried more conventional methods: F2 and F12 keys, and clicking on PC settings in the charms bar, choosing the Recovery etc option. However none of these work and it just boots into the Win8.1 user account.
However, from the LL hardware database, I notice that LL has been installed on the Lenovo G580, but maybe these contained original drive to enable operation of the 'novo' button ... I also notice from hadrian's inxi -Fz terminal output, that he installed LL on a Lenovo G580.
Any ideas, send them this way before I throw this laptop in the bin > > >

I recently installed LL 3.8 on to an Asus 1225B laptop - mostly without a hitch.
Had a slight problem with the keyboard being a bit scrambled but sorted this out by referring to other forum posts on the topic.
When subsequently trying to access Lite Software, Install/Remove, etc for which my password is required, the authentication process does not accept my password.
I suspect that this may be due to the original keyboard hiccup during the installation but I don't know how to get around this. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Hallo i try to install conky-manager in linux lite 4.2 with this :
Code: sudo gdebi conky-manager*.deb
and they output is Code: Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Reading state information... Done
Αυτό το πακέτο δεν γίνεται να εγκατασταθεί
Dependency is not satisfiable: realpath
and i try to install then the realpath but i can not
input
Code: sudo apt-get install realpath
output
manpages-pl manpages-fr-extra
E: Το πακέτο realpath δεν έχει υποψήφια εγκατάσταση
(in engleas with google translate)
" Read List of Packages ... Completed
Construction of Dependency Tree
Read description of the current status ... Completed
The realpath package is not available, but there is a report about it from another package.
This means that this package is missing, is outdated, or is available from another source
However, the following package replaces it:
manpages-pl manpages-fr-extra
E: The realpath package has no candidate installation"
what i did wrong here
?
