  Windows 10 Linux Lite 4.xx Networking SSH, SFTP, Samba, RDP
Posted by: trinidad - 03-07-2019, 06:28 PM - Forum: Network - Replies (3)

I've completed the tutorial for Linux Lite to Windows 10 connections with SSH, SFTP, Samba, RDP, and Remmina. I've covered some basic Windows 10 security for the connections as well. It's intended to be another help resource for new Linux Lite users who want to safely network to their Windows 10 machines. See the link below:

  PPAs
Posted by: Artim - 03-06-2019, 11:48 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (3)

Hi,

[size=1.45em]I'm not a fan of PPAs at all.[/size]  Especially if they offer software that is already available in the Ubuntu repositories (just not the latest version, perhaps).  So I have a question about removing them:

Is it safe to remove selected PPAs that I don't think I need or want?  How much of the essential Linux Lite software comes from a PPA?  Are there essential PPAs that I should not remove or disable?

Thanks in advance for thoughtful replies!

  How do I delete/replace the 'tags' on one of my forum threads?
Posted by: m654321 - 03-05-2019, 06:58 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (3)

I would like to replace the tags on one of my forum threads, so that I can more accurately reflect the content.
After clicking Modify to get into edit mode, overwriting existing tags doesn't seem to work. Also, I tried clicking on the crosses of the tags at the bottom of the thread to delete them, but that doesn't seem to work either.  Sad

Many thanks in advance for any help on this.

  Hello, New Linux Lite User Here :)
Posted by: Dito Kurnia Pratama - 03-04-2019, 10:51 AM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (6)

Hello, my name is Dito from Indonesia. I'm move from Lubuntu 18.04 LTS to Linux Lite on March 2nd. Before I'm using Lubuntu, Im using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS than upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.

I like this distro,I like the synaptic package manager is install in default. The UI is modern but still lightweight. I like the Lite Software in the setting panel, it is convenient.

Unfortunately, there is no Indonesian Source Mirror, not like Ubuntu. But I can use the Vietnam Mirror, and it is still fast. But, I have one little dissappointed, I experienced little problem when trying live iso and still see the problem after installing Linux Lite. I will make other post about that problem (or searching the forum, then make a new post).

Thank you for reading my little story. Have a nice day :-)

  I need help with samba
Posted by: Phobos84 - 03-02-2019, 11:27 PM - Forum: Network - Replies (15)

Hello,

I really need some help.  For whatever reason I struggle with samba every time I have to do anything with it.  This time though I am totally lost.  So I had an old P4 PC with an older version of Linux Lite that was set up as a media server.  After about 40 hours of messing with samba I got it to be visible and accessible by any computer on my network.  All was well until I upgraded to a new computer and installed the new version of Lite.  I can't get the network to work at all.  It can be seen by other computers but not accessed.  I have two hard drives in the computer.  On has the operating system and the other has the files I need to share on the network.  This is my smb.conf file

Code:
#======================= Global Settings ====================================
[global]
workgroup = WORKGROUP
server string = Linux Lite Shares
netbios name = Server
security = user
encrypt passwords = true
username map = /etc/samba/smbusers
map to guest = bad user
guest account = nobody
dns proxy = no
#======================= Share Definitions ===================================
[Server]
path = /media/chad2/backup/shares
available = yes
valid users = %U %G
write list = %U
browsable = yes
public = yes
writable = yes
guest ok = yes
read only = no
printable = yes
locking = no
strict locking = no

I'm clueless, any ideas?
