Forum: Installing Linux Lite
- Replies (7)

Hi everybody,

i am fairly new to the world of Linux. Because i need to run open source lab analysis software, I was planning on installing dual boot Win 10 and LL5.0.
I got everything up to the installer running and followed recommendations in this forum which helped well.
I created a 20 GB partition for LL root and swap. sda1 is windows, sda2 is data and sda3 was generated for LL.

I also followed the help file of LL 5.0.
For dual boot, it says to install on extra partition. I set bootloader to sda as recommended and had sda3 wiped. Before continuing, the software told me to define efi of at least 500 mb. Because LL help file told me not to touch sda1, the win partition, i cut a piece of the sda3 to create sda 4 in efi. Then, i was able to continue installation process and LL was installed. Before the end of the process, installation crashed and a fatal error occured stating that GRUB was not properlz installed.

When restarting, GRUB didn|t do much but a command line that gave an error.

Restarting from BIOS and setting the USB first made me at least restart into LL installation surface. From here i am writing.

Windows partition is dead and not accessible at this point via GRUB or when set to home drive.

Anybody a suggestion on how to fix GRUB?
Re-installation works, but doesnt fix the problem, tried a few different angles, but didnt get far.

Any help greatly appreiated!

Hi all,

As mentioned in the title.  I have a Macbook pro late 2011.

Everything is running very nicely except I can't right click with the touchpad.  I can't find a setting to either.

Has anyone had success in getting this to work?  On other distro's I've tried it was fine.  Just Linux Lite so I'm guessing it's something simple I can do?

Thanks so much

Hi all,

I've installed LinuxLite and I'm trying to install docker.
Usually I've used Ubuntu or Pop!OS and it's installed fine via these instructions:

https://docs.docker.com/engine/install/ubuntu/

However I get to this part:

sudo add-apt-repository \
  "deb [arch=amd64] https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu \
  $(lsb_release -cs) \
  stable"

and it fails to add the repository.  I've changed it to:

sudo add-apt-repository \
  "deb [arch=amd64] https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu \
  Buster \
  stable"

That went a little further along but still failed.

I wonder if anyone has had any success in installing Docker on LinuxLite?

I'm on an old Macbook Pro 2011 and the OS is running quite nicely apart from this little hurdle and a few little other things I'll work through.

Thank you

Hiya Folks,

So scouring the net there is info out there, but I find confusing. This of course is not hard to do, lol. So, looking for help if you can please?

Any ways, I have had trouble over the last couple months, with setting up my laptop free from Windows. I have had issues, with LL and tried a couple others, but still like LL so have settled on LL.

However, as I learn more and more about Linux, try things out, and so forth I have had to re install LL as it fell over and I could not get  access to the o/s anymore.

This of course in Linux is no big deal if you have a nice copy of a bootable usb etc. But once up and running again, you do need to install all your favourite software. You also have to spend hours if not days re configuring some of this software. E.G. Gimp. There are filters to install, presets to be re made, py to install scripts to be made and so the list can go on and on.

Question:
Is there a safe and quick or non complicated way of creating an ISO image of my system once it is set up, and running just like how I like it?

My personal data is backed up to external drive, but the system to return it to my working level takes days after a bout of problems.

If I could re insert a copy of my own image , and install with all your snaps, all your fav software and and downloads , would be amazing.

Am hoping to hear from folk that have successfully created a copy of their own running system and how to go about it.

Cheers
H

I sorry to be such a dope, but as a Linux Lite newbie I was looking around in the File Manager at /bin/ files and I accidentally set the "Open With" application for files of type "shared library" to 'Advanced Network Configuration' and then, whilst trying to fix that, I added 'Mousepad' as an alternative option, for good measure! Doh!
Specifically I did this to the 'sane-find-scanner' shared library (because I was trying to find the answer to my earlier query about letting my N/W scanner be 'seen' through the firewall), but now this stupid setting is being applied to ALL files of the "shared library" type...
I am sure this cannot be a good idea, but I have NO IDEA how to reset this to default. Could somebody out there please come to my rescue and tell me how to put this back to default?
Apologies, once more... :Smile

Hi, I am an absolute beginner with LinuxLite but I have already learned that if I Enable the FirewallD, I then cannot get the default 'Document Scanner' software to see my network connected scanner (part of an Epson WP-4545 MFU). This connection works fine if the firewall is Disabled, but I would like to know how to set the firewall to allow the scanner to work with it Enabled, please.
I have found the guidance on configuring the firewall in the Help Guide, so I know I should set the Configuration to 'Permanent' and the Zone to 'Home', but I have no idea what 'service(s)' the 'Document Scanner' uses. I guessed that it would be 'sane', but when I checked that 'service' for the 'Home' zone and reloaded the firewall it made no difference when I tested the scanner connection; - Document Scanner reports "No scanners detected; Please check your scanner is connected and powered on" (even though it is). Clearly this problem is caused by my inability to configure the firewall to all the scanner through...
Advice please?
Also, I tried to install the Epson 'ImageScan! for Linux' scanner driver for this WP4545 machine (there is a driver dated 2019). So far it does not work, and reports "Could not send command to scanner. Check the scanner status", even with the Firewall disabled so that 'Document Scanner' *can* connect to the scanner. The installation instructions say that SANE must be preinstalled; - is SANE installed by default in the Linux Lite distribution?

Got two identical boxes here with AMD Ryzen 5 3400G, one has a GT 1030 installed and works just fine. The other one, however, is using the integrated RX Vega 11 and doesn't want to boot up. Sad
