where are programs iinstalled.

I went to the package manager and found two backup apps marked them for install then hit apply. but if they got installed i cant find them to test them. also if you don't mind me using one post for two questions, i need a simple file backup to back up my windows drive. just a all file copy and compress type of thing. any sugestions will help.

Can you be more specific?
There is more than one backup App. Actually there are at least 5 Apps. I used all of them.
I recommend you to learn how to use LuckyBackup, it is a 1:1 backup tool so you'll end up having exactely what you want, an exact copy of your drive's files, that you can access as the original drive. I use it for data backup.

For the rest, namely the Root partition and /home partition, I use Live CloneZilla, which is very fast and reliable. I have a long history with Live CloneZilla so, I am extremely grateful and happy with it!
