  Installing latest version of LibreOffice
Posted by: dayooper - 04-18-2014, 08:24 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (1)

The Lite Software Center only has an older version of LibreOffice. I uninstalled it and then downloaded the latest version (4.2.3) from LibreOffice web site. Used the Unzip/Compression utility to unpack it on my desktop. How do I go about installing this software?

  Frustrated in New Jersey
Posted by: arunyan2 - 04-18-2014, 06:57 PM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (1)

Greetings from New Jersey, USA.  I admit that I am new to this whole Linux thing.  This is why I chose Linux Lite.  When I first installed it and started playing with it, I loved it.  Then I ran into problems.  The first was with WiFi. But that one fixed itself after sitting idle for a couple of weeks.  l still am having problems with the dual boot thing, but I'll take that over to that forum.  Thanks to all for your help.  Peace out.

Get_Iplayer Problem Finding In LL Menu
Posted by: newtusmaximus - 04-18-2014, 09:55 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (4)

Have downloaded get_iplayer via synaptic.  Appears to have proceeded well and registers in sysnaptic as installed (green square LHS). However after installation can not find in LL manager under any of the option categories.  Any ideas where to look etc to run the program. TIA

The Basic information is not there
Posted by: travellerwill - 04-17-2014, 06:38 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (1)

Hi Everyone,

I'm really sorry but as a normal kind of person who thought they were quite good at computers, I've had no success at all in installing Linux Lite. Your instructions on line are for geeks, no offense intended.

'Writing the latest Linux Lite ISO to USB on Windows'
I downloaded the Win32DiskImager, so what? There are no other instructions which is very unhelpful.  I also downloaded Linux Lite which sits in my Firefox downloads. At one point I thought I was 'reading' and 'writing' Linux to the USB using Win32DiskImager and this took hours, the end result, nothing on the USB stick, so not a huge success.

I have no idea where to go now, any suggestions?
Best
Will

  Wireless Connection Issues
Posted by: dbrew4 - 04-17-2014, 04:58 PM - Forum: Network - Replies (10)

Running Lite 1.0.8. Yesterday I connected my notebook adapter (wifi card) a Linksys WPC54G ver.3. Yesterday I was able to connect after finding my network and entering my PW. All I had to do is double click the little network icon on the bottom menu bar next to the battery icon and my network showed up. Today after reboot .....notta. Linux recognizes my card and I already loaded the correct driver from my CD. I tried to reload the driver and Linux states that the driver is already loaded. I also deleted the driver and reloaded it...still notta. Any thoughts?...Linux Neebie...still learning here.

Video output to TV screen problem
Posted by: mountainhick - 04-17-2014, 04:54 PM - Forum: Video Cards - Replies (4)

I am admittedly a Linux noob wanker, but I do search first before asking these kinds of questions. Haven't found this one yet:

I just loaded LL 1.08 to a Dell d620 laptop. This machine used to run Win xp and svga output to TV screen was just fine, it auto adjusted to fill the 1920x1080 screen.

It appears with LL the default display is 1280x800 which fills the latop screen just fine, but uses a much smaller area of the TV screen. In settings/display on LL it shows only the 1280x800 default and apparently offers no adjustments. And, I have not found any way to change res on the TV. Also, Fn/F8 does nothing.

Is there some way to increase the output size to fill the TV screen?

Here is the device info I could find through the LL menu:

x.org foundation 1.11.3

nvidia G72M quadro NVS 110M/geoforce  go 7300 (rev a1) prog-if 00

Thanks

Live USB Boot, wont connect wireless
Posted by: pjknust - 04-17-2014, 03:10 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (2)

Hello,
Trying out Linux Lite on live Boot USB on dell mini 10 with xp. Will connect without problem when running windows. Booting up with usb, wont save my network info. I can hard wire it and will work on internet. Is this normal for live boot? or do I need to do something else to connect wireless. I want to make sure it all works correctly before I install. Have researched so much just to get where I am! Will have to watch more youtubes before I attempt an install.  I use my computers mostly for email, social media, and 'watching' videos, church, and how to's.  I know my way around the internet, but not inside the computer.

thanks for your help,
pam

  Installing Linux Basic Question
Posted by: travellerwill - 04-16-2014, 10:03 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (1)

I'm a refugee from XP and I'm trying to install Linux on my Samsung NC10 Netbook, and I can't even get past the first paragraph.

"Start your computer, and go into your system Bios and check that the boot order is set so that DVD and USB devices are set to boot first. This varies from bios to bios. Refer to your motherboard documentation for more information."

What are Bios and how do check them on XP, where would I find the motherboard documentation?

Hope some can help, Many thanks.

  Terminal Password Issues
Posted by: dbrew4 - 04-16-2014, 01:04 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (9)

Using a Gateway laptop, Pentium 4 processor, 1G ram with Linux Lite 1.0.8 installed. I used the Menu-Install Updates and that worked fine. Now when I'm in the terminal it doesn't take my password even though it is the correct one. Its states: "Sorry, try again" and after 3 times it prompts me for a new command. Can't figure out what to do here. Maybe change my password but how do I do that without reloading Linux Lite? I'm also trying to fix the numlock being on by default on start up. I went into the bios on reboot and there aren't any options for changing any numlock. I have to use the Fn+F9(Pad Lock) keys to toggle it off...no numlock key on keyboard. Any help would be appreciated. NEWBIE to Linux!!
Tks
Dennis
