  Linux Lite on Bountysource
Posted by: valtam - 01-14-2015, 01:26 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (20)

With the goal of continually improving our software, I've opened an account on Bountysource and will start offering bounties on features we want to add to our custom software.

How it works:

1) The Linux Lite team requests a feature to be added to existing LL software.
2) We then attach a bounty (a $dollar amount) to that feature request.
3) There are 3 ways you can fund new features to our existing software:

- you can send us a donation on our Bountysource page here - https://www.bountysource.com/teams/linuxlite
- send us a donation on our website here - https://www.linuxliteos.com/donate.html and a note saying the donation is for our Bountysource page, mention what feature you want added, and we will place the feature request ourselves providing it is something we agree on. I would recommend you contact us first before making a donation so you're not paying for something that won't end up in our software.
- my personal preference, send us a donation here - https://www.linuxliteos.com/donate.html and attach a note saying you want to boost an existing bounty eg. from $40 to $45 as an incentive to encourage development.

Funding for bounties requested by Linux Lite will be sourced from our donations. This is win win for everyone involved.

Our Bountysource page is here - https://www.bountysource.com/people/29895-linuxlite and is plugged into our Github page as convenience for developers.

We've posted our first Bounty which can be viewed here - https://www.bountysource.com/issues/7753...e-software

This announcement is just a quick overview, if you have any questions please let me know.

  [SOLVED] Spoiler tags
Posted by: banko - 01-14-2015, 01:17 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (1)

When I first tried LL, the glaring omission was there were no "spoiler tags" when posting.

They keep the forum pages tidy, at the moment theres only the code tags for putting lengthy replies in.

In my opinion, code tags that do not include code could be confusing to "newbies"

Just my opinion Big Grin

Add shortcuts of important folders to Thunar's Shortcut Pane
Posted by: anon222 - 01-13-2015, 06:02 PM - Forum: Tutorials - Replies (10)

The Shortcut Pane provides shortcuts to different folders on your system.
You can add important folders to the  Thunar's Shortcut Pane with simply dragging and dropping a folder to the pane.
This is the wrong way of doing it. If you drop it on an existing shortcut you will acctually move the folder you have dragged to the folder the shortcut is pointing to.

I don't know why the XFCE developers made that possible.

This is the correct way of doing it. You have to move your mouse untill the horizontal line appears.

Once you add the shortcut you can right-click on it and remove it or rename it.

Make Password Asterisks Visible in the Terminal Window
Posted by: anon222 - 01-13-2015, 04:54 PM - Forum: Tutorials - Replies (4)

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST:
Echoing asterisks gives away information:
1) Password length, and
2) Makes it easier to video-tape keypresses by syncing them with screen feedback.

We will open the /etc/sudoers file and change a setting.
IMPORTANT: Use extreme caution when editing  /etc/sudoers file. Never edit the sudoers file with a normal text editor (leafpad,gedit,mousepad..).
Always use the visudo command as described here. If the sudoers file has improper syntax, you will be left with a system where it’s impossible to obtain elevated or root privileges. The visudo command opens a text editor like you would with normal text files, but the command also validates the syntax of the file upon saving it.This prevents configuration errors in the sudoers file from blocking sudo operations, which could be your only method of obtaining root privileges.

Press Ctrl + Alt + T to open a Terminal window and type in

Code:
sudo visudo

Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move the cursor to the end of the following line:
Code:
Defaults         env_reset
Change the line by adding ,pwfeedback to the end of the line.
Code:
Defaults                 env_reset,pwfeedback

Another way to do it (choose one of them):
You can also press Enter after env_reset to make a new line and type the following on the new line:
Code:
Defaults                 pwfeedback

NOTE: The space between Defaults and pwfeedback should be a tab.
When you type in Defaults press TAB key on your keyboard to add space and then type in pwfeedback
[Image: soP4UzH.png]

Once you're done editing press Ctrl + O to write out the changes.
You will be asked for the File Name to Write at the bottom. Press Enter to accept the default.
When it's saved Press Ctrl + X to close the nano editor.

Now type in
Code:
sudo -k
That will invalidate the user's cached credentials.  In other words, the next time sudo is run a password will be required.
Finally type in
Code:
sudo su

I have no sound, have not had it since I installed Linux Lite
Posted by: DLX - 01-13-2015, 03:26 PM - Forum: Sound - Replies (10)

First of all I don't know what I'm doing with Linux.  :-[

I did look to see when I installed Lite on this computer no found in System information.
Read can see in oldest file in /boot don't know if that USA date style or UK 3rd month or 5th Month 2014 so it's been sometime with not sound since the start of last year.

I tried adding install updates drivers & tab additional drivers - But there No additional drivers available.

Also did create system report and got info below about sound card, looked here on forms did a search look.
From system info show I using Linux 3.13.0

Quote:===========================================================
Sound Information
===========================================================

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: ICH5 [Intel ICH5], device 0: Intel ICH [Intel ICH5]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: ICH5 [Intel ICH5], device 4: Intel ICH - IEC958 [Intel ICH5 - IEC958]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

So is there no drivers to get sound sorting on this computer
to add there no sound from website MP3 from hardrive or CD I do have VLC as player have also looked at sound setting clicked about not change. Looked here to file:///usr/share/doc/litemanual/index.html

Thanks
