  [SOLVED] Intermittent Screen Freezes
Posted by: pauloz - 02-26-2015, 12:17 PM - Forum: Video Cards - Replies (10)

I'm posting on Video Cards thinking the problem lies there, however I'm not sure. I'm salvaging a relatively old desktop (back when Vista was around) for friends of mine. The installation went fine but I'm encountering intermittent screen freezes, which produce lines across the screen. It seems to occur especially when I'm browsing. I have to switch off the hard drive and then try again. Most times, it reboots OK but a few minutes later, the same problem occurs. I changed the D-SUB connection over and there was some improvement. I was thinking this may have solved the problem, but I had another freeze whilst in Thunderbird.
I've attached the System Report - hope someone can help.

Thanks
pauloz

  [SOLVED] HBOGO and Pipelight?
Posted by: sameck - 02-26-2015, 12:48 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (3)

I am hoping to be able to use Linuxlite to watch online streaming episodes from HBOGO.  Any attempt to view a video returns nothing (but an empty screen) from both Firefox and Chrome.  Searching around a bit it appears that Pipelight may be a solution that allows the streaming content inside the adobe flash viewer (which is the latest version) inside the Chrome browser.  I'm a bit confused as to whether the newest version of Pipelight requires the full Wine installation which I would prefer not to do.

Does anyone have HBOGO working?  How was this achieved?  Thanks.

Problems Making Live USB Stick with Unetbootin
Posted by: newtusmaximus - 02-25-2015, 09:20 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (4)

Desktop already running LL2.0 32 bit.

As unable to create a usable dvd from  LL2.2-32.iso ( always hangs) . Have tried downloading iso  several times.

Trying to LL2.2-32 bootable usb from iso
a) iso downloaded Fresh -
b) SanDisk Cruise Gparted to FAT 32 + boot flagged.  Single partition.
c) Unetbootin-linux-608 downloaded from their site and made executable
Following instructions as per http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/#install
d) SanDisk Mounted
e) Unetbootin double clicked – root password added and unetbootin screen appears
f) Tick Disc Image to downloaded  LL iso  in this case /home/linuxlite/Downloads/linux-lite-2.2-32bit.iso
g) Scandisk on /dev/sdb1
h) Space used to preserve set a zer
i) press OK and process starts
j)  Extracting =  at 9 of 21 files  (42%)  there is a long pause
casper/filesystemsquash.fs (706MB)
k) Complete and asks to reboot
j) Reboots and blue Unetbootin options screen appears

Options  = default, Start linux lite, start linux lite safe mode

k) use default – system reboots and stalls stating can not read a loop?

Reading Sandisk files are as per screen shot - how do I load a screen shot?  Read the forum stupid me!!

REPEAT above using TAHR puppy linux iso. On same PC and same version Unetbootin – Sandisk freshly format with gparted to FAT 32 to clear .

Proceeds smoothly, with no unetbootin dialogue on rebooting. Ran OK on rebooting.

So the question is What is going on?  is it the download of the  LL2.2-32bit.iso – Have downloaded it several times freshly and each time problems.  Have not done a checksum  however. But having downloaded at different times have assumed ( ?)  that download is OK.

Any ideas welcomed.

UPDATE- Have just managed to burn dvd from this iso on my HDD - Third try.  However  the unetbootin route ( as above) still the same problem. So it would appear not to be the iso downloaded??

  Monitor Disabled with Live DVD
Posted by: sunnyd - 02-25-2015, 02:58 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (2)

I have an hp 10gb ram amd a8-6500 apu with amd hd graphics tower with an hp pavillion 23xi monitor which is giving me trouble trying to run the linux lite dvd. When I try to run the dvd from the default option, nothing happens at all. When I try to run the safe mode option it runs through the setup but then disables the monitor, saying the monitor is deactivated. I have tried adding nomodeset and xforcevesa also but it makes no difference.

Any ideas?

[SOLVED] Vmware Horizon Client for Linux Lite 2.2
Posted by: william_st_ia - 02-25-2015, 02:55 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (7)

HI Group,
Has anyone found a VMware Horizon Client that works with Linux Lite 2.2?
I have found a couple that say that should work for the 32-bit, but have yet to get one to work.

If there are any out there, please let me know the URL where to download them from and any special instructions needed to make it work.

Thanks,

For those whom are looking for another PC and want to live dirt cheap ($89 + shipping???), consider symplepc.

http://symplepc.com/

Just be warned - no wifi.  You need to add an external USB wifi or addd an wifi card.

Since ubuntu works, it should work fine w/ LL.

Converted family member to use LinuxLite
Posted by: technomancer - 02-24-2015, 08:59 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (8)

I have been loving LL since the day i downloaded it, and my spouse has noticed that i am not having issues with anything. Yet she will not switch because of various games (bigfish) she plays on windows(the only reason really using the computer), then one day last month she was trying to use Skype on her new Dell laptop andWin8. I noticed she was having a hell of a time getting it to work, so without saying anything i installed Skype and it loaded fine on my LL laptop(6years old). I asked her "what are your login credentials?", she was right next to me not noticing what i was doing. I logged in with her credentials without a hitch, i just handed her my laptop and said "here you go, let me know if you need anything". Needless to say she now has her own profile/login for LinuxLite now, but still apprehensive about installing LinuxLite on her laptop. Fear, imagine what we could do without it.........Now on to the mother in-law.

  File System Problems
Posted by: toothandnail - 02-24-2015, 05:33 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (4)

I've just installed LL 2.2  (32-bit) on a Lenovo T420 laptop. The machine has Win7 (not used much, I'm glad to say...), plus Arch Linux and Sparky Linux already installed.

I used the "something else" option in the installer to set up partitions. Can't say I found the "change" dialogue very intuitive, but I eventually got mount points set up for / and /home, with / being formatted ext4, /home being left alone (since I use the same home partition for the other Linux installs as well).

Install went fairly well, though I would have liked an option to disable plymouth - don't like it and I've had problems with it with some video cards. If there is an option to disable it, I didn't see it during the install.

After install, I couldn't get the machine to complete boot in Linux-lite. I managed to escape the plymouth screen early enough to see that the system was complaining about serious file system errors on the /home partition. Selecting "Ignore" allowed boot to complete. The home partition wasn't formatted during install, and uses xfs as a file system.

I booted from a SystemRescue CD and ran xfs_repair on the /home partition - no problems found, but LL still complained about serious file system errors on the partition. I then modified /etc/fstab to include the root partitions for my other Linux installs (they also use xfs filesystem).

I was able to mount the other partitions, but the next time I started the system I got errors on all of the xfs partitions, followed by an error mounting /home, so the system would not complete startup.

Anyone else using xfs? I use it by preference, and I've never had this sort of problem before. Not to mention that attempting to boot other systems showed that partitions that had no problems earlier needed xfs_repair to be run before they would run the other distributions cleanly.

Paul.

  Hello from Oxfordshire
Posted by: toothandnail - 02-24-2015, 04:45 PM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (4)

Hello. I'm a long term Linux user, living in Bicester, Oxfordshire.

My normal preference is Arch Linux, but I've been looking for a Linux distribution that I can give to clients that are interested in alternatives to Windows. I'm not a great fan of Ubuntu, but the idea of something based on the LTS version of Ubuntu is quite appealing, so Linux-lite was quite high on my list of possibilities.

I've installed the 32-bit version of 2.2 on my Lenovol T420 laptop, but I've hit some fairly significant problems, don't know if they are specific to Linux-lite or general Ubuntu related issues. I'll detail them in other areas. I'm not sure if they relate to the hardware (I normally only use 64-bit versions of Linux, but need a 32-bit option for a couple of machines and I'm short of blank DVDs at the moment...)

I like the look of Linux-lite and would like to use it, but I'll have to work these problems out before I can recommend it to anyone.
