Hi,

I've been trying to install LL on a friends New "Rock Canyon" version of an Intel NUC.
This version contain Intel HD6000 graphics,
The older "Maple Canyon" version was Intel HD5500 and apperently worked.

When you boot the NUC the grub screen appears,
then when the installer starts it is all corrupted and unusable.
Support for Intel HD6000 was added in kernel 3.19

I know you can "update" LL kernel, when it's installed, But I can't install it.

So a "Catch 22",
how to get kernel 3.19 into a version of LL to install from..??
Any ideas/suggestion welcome.

I prefer to use LL as my main OS and was considering a new Laptop -  an  Acer Aspire R11  which has a touch-screen and a 360 hinge allowing  different viewing modes

Has anyone had any experience with LL on Hybrid Laptops

My concerns are that when using it it will not behave like in Windows 8 / 10 :-

1-  In Touch-screen mode it will not respond to scrolling etc .

2-  In  Windows 8 the screen is turned upside down the view is flipped the correct way

Just thought I'd drop by here to share my little success story with all of you Linux Lite fans. Being a satisfied Linux Mint / MATE ("mah-tay") user, (I use it daily on my primary laptop), I was somewhat disappointed yesterday afternoon to find that I couldn't use the same on the seriously old hardware that I was recently forced into using as my "new" HTPC running Kodi. Yep, my prior 12+ year old Dell Dimension 2400 kind of bit the dust (at least until I can afford a new PSU for it) over a month ago and I've since considered just about everything short of committing a crime to obtain a replacement system -- all to no avail (BTW, the Dell is configured with a 2.4ghz P4 CPU, 1.5 gbytes memory and an added Nvidia Geforce 8400 GS "Verto" PCI graphics card w/512 mbytes memory). Fact is, I can't live without my HTPC and so something had to give. Well yesterday, I finally decided to accept the inevitable and attempt to recommission the "fossil" that I was using as my development computer PRIOR to purchasing the Dell. It's a self-built "tower" consisting of a Gigabyte GA-7VT600-L motherboard with just 1G of memory, an AMD Athalon XP CPU and an ATI Radeon 8500 GPU (if memory serves). Although both desktops are of similar age, I believe the Dell was the more powerful of the two systems but even it would be considered a mere "calculator" by today's standards...

So, yesterday afternoon, when I attempted to install Linux Mint on the fossil, it got half way through the install and the installer app just suddenly closed. Most likely it crashed because there was just too little memory available. "Well," I thought, "that's that!" and I started to just accept that I might have to resort to robbing a bank after all, and then, realizing how poorly I'd likely fare behind bars, I decided to do a little research into some lighter distributions that might just run better on this hardware. Thereafter, I remembered hearing others some months ago recommending Linux Lite and so I burned a live DVD of it and began installing it. I'm happy to say that the install of Linux Lite went without a hitch and the fossil is now proving itself to be a functioning member of the non-extinct. The only issue I encountered at all was that Kodi refused to run, apparently due to the fossilization of the ATI graphics card itself and luckily, I came across a forum post where the solution to a similar problem was resolved by setting the following in the terminal prior to running Kodi:

So in summary, Linux Lite saved the day, and as a result, the members of my household will soon once again be enjoying the fruits of the Kodi media center (that is, once I obtain a VGA to HDMI adapter). Laptop : Compaw nx6120

Connected via ethernet.
Full Updates

Noticed that laptop wifi light is not on, tried wifi button, no effect
Had a look in networking, no wan showing

Broadcom 14e4:4318

Had a look in Settings > Install Drivers
And it showed a broadcom driver option, sorry I did not record
Installed, entered password, took a long time to install.
rebooted
The reboot stayed static for 30minutes, I got impatient and killed power, started up again. And still no luck with wifi.

Any suggestions and comments welcome.

What sort of end use does LL get? Is it purely browsing/emails/social etc or does it get used for "serious" stuff such a business etc. Is its main attraction for older hardware - extending  its useful life?  Are not modern hardware specifications - High RAM and processornumbers/speeds  total overkill i.e redundant? 

To me, the hardware gravy train becomes irrelevant with linux's efficient use of resources?? Especially with the LL flavour/ethos?

The ability for the system to close the lid is set to show a logon screen upon re-opening.  This happens, but the screen goes blank after logon.  No desktop appears.  This issue is on three separate systems, all running 2.6.  All updates have been run.

Sometimes requires turning off cptr, sometimes a flurry of key tapping may bring back a second logon screen. Desktop may appear but not always.  Again, settings are the default that come with the install.

Any advise greatly welcomed.

  I have just moved from LL 1.0.8 to LL 2.6 there are a few programes that I used with 1.0.8 / they are ie:-

1) Ubuntu Software Centre
2) Ubuntu Tweak
3) Lite Software Centre

I would very much like to install these programes / but it poses a few questions,

1) Is it safe to do so ?
2) If it's safe how do I get them ?

Hello! I have GT 530 in my PC. I have problems with my driver. By default I used Nouveo driver. But then my PC started to freeze. Randomly. I could just hard reset it with a button on my case. Then I have read on the forum thet it my be the vide card. Now i'm using NVIDIA binary driver version 346.96 but it is laggy. A lot. what can i do??

Some early information. Historically speaking, there are always some pretty important bugs squashed after a major LTS release. Linux Lite 3.0 will be released as per the roadmap - https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/relea...e-roadmap/ This 8 week period gives the new LTS time to settle in and stabilize, as well as allowing us to release our well-known stable first release. The first Linux Lite Beta 3.0 is likely to be released 4 - 6 weeks after the 16.04 LTS release.

Sorry if this small but annoying problem has already been covered in this forum or help manual. I cannot either find the fix or do not understand it if I did.  ???

Some how by accident I have changed my windows tiling setting. When I first boot up I normally start Thunderbird then start Firefox after reading mail. Thunderbird opens full screen down to panel which does not hide. This is what I want. When I start Firefox, it opens full screen but the title bar is below Thunderbird's and the window bottom is behind the panel instead of above it. I want Firefox full screen to the panel and completely covering Thunderbird's window. I use the icons in the panel to change programs.

How do I reset the window tiling the way I described?
