Release Announcement

Linux Lite 2.8 Beta is now available for testing. The star of this release is the Hardware Enablement Stack, 3.19 based Kernel offering greater hardware support. This release marks the end of the Series 2 release cycle. It's been quite a journey. Our evolution in what we offer people is due in large part to our wonderful, valuable community. Most of the features that end up in Linux Lite came from your suggestions, your feedback. Linux Lite 2.8 Beta is a continuation of that symbiosis between developers and community. During this development cycle, the open source software community lost a pioneering visionary. Linux Lite dedicates this release in honor, and to the memory of Ian Murdock, founder of Debian.

Hi Everybody,

I'm running LL 2.6 with the latest version of Skype, but I can't even get it to open even though it seems to be well installed. What am I doing wrong? I am a total ignorant with Linux but was able to install and update everything else just fine. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. This reviving of the old laptop is turning to be harder than expected.

I also experience image stuttering on youtube but I don't belive it's related.
best regards,
gaidjo

I'm still finding my way around Lite and have a question.

Only Calibre 1.25 is available for installation. I would like to install the latest version from Calibre's site. Should I remove the older version thru Package Manager first?

I saw an option in Package Manager called 'Mark All Upgrades' what is it for and can I use it to upgrade Calibre 1.25 to 2.4x, if yes, how?

We're on the hunt for new wallpapers for Linux Lite 2.8

If you're unsure of what type we are looking for, have a look in the current selection. They should be:

- High quality images
- jpg or png
- A minimum resolution of 1920 x 1080
- Virus scanned - https://www.virustotal.com/
- Have a generic wide appeal (no niche or bizarre stuff)

Thank you Smile

Hello again,

I have always used VLC as my go-to media player...even before my linux days. And it has always worked perfectly for playing DVDs. However, recently I was trying to watch a couple DVDs and had issues with the video skipping sections of the movie during playback. The video would pause.....then skip a couple minutes of the movie before continuing. (This of course greatly interrupted family movie night). I tried running this DVD on 3 different machines....all running LL 2.6 and all running VLC. Finally, we finished the night switching to my wife's Windows 10 machine, also running VLC, in order to watch the film.

The next day I installed SMPlayer to try the same DVD and it played fine. However, I cannot get to the DVD menu in SMPlayer and movie's since have had problems getting to the main feature without the menu. Tonight, once again, family movie night required a Win 10 machine to run the movie correctly.

Soooooo....what has happened to VLC and its ability to play DVDs? What other media player options are there that will support DVD menus? I am frustrated having to revert to Windows just to do family movie night.....

Thanks in advance....

Ken

I installed LL along side W7 and dual boot worked for 1 day but now when I select W7, computer goes blank for a second and then loops back to the grub dual boot screen.  Around and around in a continuous loop .  LL boots up and is a fine program but I still need W7 occasionally.........I also downloaded the LL 2.6 .iso file and burned it to disk.  Do I just run the 2.6 iso and install it over the installed  LL 2.4 ?  I'm not really sure what to do.
