| Dell Inspiron 6400 Media Laptop 32bit Not shutting down |

Hi guys,
Anyone with any advice?
Just got an old Dell Free from my works I.T. guy for my daughter who is due to go into hospital at the weekend for quite a big operation. I've installed LL 3.0 and done all the updates and installed Kodi for her (The media buttons on the front of the laptop even control Kodi!!)
The only issue, doesn't shutdown properly? It goes through the motions and just hangs at a greyish screen and I need to press and hold the power button for about 5 seconds for it to power down.
Apart from the power issue, I'm VERY impressed with how LL has developed, it's been a good year or so since I've tried LL, I might just install it on my main PC!
Ant tips or hints would be most appreciated!

Help Manual > Install > Enabling TRIM on your SSD:
In the section instructing the user to edit /etc/rc.local, we see 3 instances where "fstrim -v" is added to the file, but there are 4 instances where "noatime," was added to /etc/fstab. The number of these edits matched in the 2.8 Help Manual, but they don't here in the 3.0 manual.
I noticed this when following the instructions to TRIM my first SSD over the weekend.

Hi Gerry and co. An old NAS (network attached storage) problem has come back. It probably occurs also if trying to access a "Windows share". Attempting to open ".odt" files on NAS causes LO Writer to appear momentarily then vanish. This is a reversion to behaviour in 2.0. Problem vanishes on installing libreoffice-gnome from System / Install/remove software
(I have made a bug report.)

Hi
I regard myself as an intermediate Linux user with no programming language skills and umm no plans to learn such.
However, I can and have some skills and plan on helping in the forums from time to time.
so far I like this distro as its fast to boot and a decent array of software that should have most people happy.
Rather than mention in any feedback area....it was trivial for me to add some of my fav software including
mc = terminal file manager
mirage = image viewer mainly for slideshows and easy magnification
mtpaint = smaller than gimp image edit tool, mainly to convert image formats and crop etc.
and youtube-dl needs a few terminal commands = a terminal command tool to download youtube movies and convert most into a a format for later playback if you can't afford to watch as streaming as you want to watch it more than once and have bad internet speeds......like mine is only 4 Mbps or roughly 400 kilobytes per sec
https://rg3.github.io/youtube-dl/download.html
I also noticed that vlc was already capable of youtube streaming.
cheers and thanks for reading

| [FEEDBACK] 3.0 64 bit HD install localuser is not yet a member of users? |

Hi
Forgive me if I have it all wrong as I have been wrong in the past.
When I turn on more colums in the file manager I can see at my home folder that I have a group =localusername eg gordon
but I am used to seeing me as a part of users.
so running Quote: lite-usermanager
I have added myself to users group.
2) I need this as I use a non-standard data partition that I need to access as Quote:/etc/fstab
does not accept localuser-name as an option but does accept
user (root) or users (group that local user can belong to)
cheers

| 3.0 64 bit lite-tweaks --- not relevant my mistake |

Hi
clean install no updates no software removed then I run as root and gui opens OK
Code: root@asus:/home/gordon# lite-tweaks
find: warning: you have specified the -maxdepth option after a non-option argument -type, but options are not positional
(-maxdepth affects tests specified before it as well as those specified after it). Please specify options before other arguments.
cat: '/root/.config/xfce4/panel/whiskermenu-*.rc': No such file or directory
ls: cannot access '/root/.local/share/Trash/files/': No such file or directory
Gtk-Message: GtkDialog mapped without a transient parent. This is discouraged.
looking at possible answers I get
Code: find / -name whisker*
/home/gordon/.config/xfce4/panel/whiskermenu-1.rc
/var/lib/dpkg/info/whiskermenu.list
/var/lib/dpkg/info/whiskermenu.md5sums
/usr/share/xfce4/panel/plugins/whiskermenu.desktop
/etc/skel/.config/xfce4/panel/whiskermenu-1.rc
find: ‘/run/user/1000/gvfs’: Permission denied
IMHO looks trivial to fix the skel or root rc file
the max depth lines appear to be these
Code: cat /usr/bin/lite-tweaks | grep maxdepth
if [ "$(find /var/cache/apt/archives/ -maxdepth 1 -size +100k)" ]; then
if [ "$(find /var/log -type f \( -iname \*.gz -o -iname \*.0 -o -iname \*.1 \) -maxdepth 100 -size +1k)" ]; then
Not that I am a coder so feel free to ignore my feedback
