  Recover Firefox Bookmarks
Posted by: BlueFox - 06-16-2023, 03:08 AM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (3)

Laptop Hard Drive crashed and won't boot. I put the drive in an external case and was able to copy the user files to another computer with running Linux Lite.

However have not been able to get my Firefox bookmarks recovered.
I don't have a html file to work with only some .json files but don't see the bookmark file.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Old computer : is it worth installing LL
Posted by: Jean-Marc B - 06-12-2023, 06:49 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (3)

Hi folks !

Here's my problem :

As a member of a non profit association, I've been asked to help with the computer used to check members data base and book keeping.

It's an old no name desktop, from 2005, running XP, fitted with an AMD Sempron 2800 + CPU, 1.6 Mhz, and 1024 MB ram. Using it is a real torture as everything runs slow.

There's no way of booting from an usb stick, I've checked and rechecked the bios, the only option is to boot from an SD. As I haven't any at hand, I couldn't try it yet.

But I'm wondering : is it worth spending time on such and old piece of junk ? I've never installed any distro on so old a computer and so low tech, so I don't know at all what I'm getting into.

What would be your advice ?

Recent Password enforced to log on Update
Posted by: Kevin Perez - 06-11-2023, 11:49 PM - Forum: Updates - Replies (8)

As a result of installing an update a handful of days ago, I now have to use a password to log into my account. Would any of you know if there's a default password for non-admin users? If there is please let me know. If there is not please tell me how without the use of another computer I can reinstall Linux light.

Installing new version of gnu make without compiling
Posted by: AcsPrime - 06-10-2023, 06:57 AM - Forum: Installing Software - No Replies

Hey,

I'm on Linux Lite 5.8.
The installed version of gnu make is 4.2.1 but the latest gnu make version is 4.4.1.
Is there a simple way to install this latest version without it being to compile from source?
I found this stack overflow post https://askubuntu.com/a/1386772/1326 which seems to point to a deb package for 4.3.

This seems to be quite simple on a mac using brew.

I removed the bottom menu by accident - how to restore it?
Posted by: gotLL - 06-09-2023, 06:01 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (1)

Hello all,
I've just installed LInux Lite 6.2
I removed Google-Chromium as a application - and noticed the icon for it was still in the bottom menu bar.
I double-clicked on it to make sure there was no program associated with it - and that was confirmed.

So I wanted to remove the icon.
I right-clicked on the Google-Chromium icon and selected remove - and the whole menu got removed OUCH!!!

I suspect it is an XFCE object.
How do I restore it?

Sincere thanks!
