My name is Omer Golan-Joel and I am a 34-years-old freelance translator and editor from Yavne, Israel. I discovered Linux last spring and fell in love with it, first using Ubuntu Unity - which I found to be cumbersome to my taste - then Ubuntu MATE and Linux Mint and now Linux Lite. I Find Linux Lite to be the fastest, most stable, and most complete distro I have tried so far. It has no bugs - unlike Ubuntu MATE - and comes front-loaded with most software I need.

I have brought to life a number of old computers using Linux Lite (and Ubuntu MATE). They had Windows XP or Windows 7 and were virtually unusable. With Linux Lite they run very well! Even my old ACER Aspire One netbook with its particularly weak Atom CPU.

I still run Windows 7 64bit on my main computer as I need very specific functions of MSOffice in my work which do not work in Libre Office (there are still issues with change tracking and some complex PowerPoint presentations do not work well after being saved in LibreOffice. On my laptops I run Linux Lite, and once these functions will work well on LibreOffice I will move my main computer to it as well. I have also installed Linux Lite on the computers of several family members and friends and they are very pleased with it.

I have tried other flavours with the 16.04 kernel and all have been absolutely sad, system lock ups, system acting like it has a memory leak, constant reboots to get performance back to something less than woeful, even then it's slow.


Just installed LL 2.8 on one machine that has been not used since I got sick of the way it was performing (Laptop) and it's back to what I would expect, so Monday I'll try doing the same to 2 desktops that I have in the workshop that both have been acting like they may have some hardware problem, tried Linux Mate (16.04 kernel) no performance improvement, one of these machines should be kick ass, although several years old a Q6600 with a mid rang GPU and 4 gig ram should go very well on a lite weight Linux distro?!

I can an no longer watch TV on ITV.Com as it declares the following whenever I try to watch

I constantly install updates from the main menu but as this does not solve the issue can anyone help me get this operational once more please

Fix for 1.x, 2.x & 3.x Series as per usual:

Synaptic Package Manager wouldn't open fully in LL3.0 today, but came up with message to run this command: sudo dpkg --configure -a.
I assume this happened because a process was abruptly terminated in a previous session, before it had reached completion.
I got the following output when I ran the command mentioned, but it seems to hang indefinitely (more than an hour) on the last line of code... 

If you're running the 3.x series of Linux Lite, you may be able to patch your kernel, on up to 3 PCs, without rebooting, using the procedure at this link.

I keep seeing posts about UEFI build request. Jerry has said no. So here is a suggestion that might help if like me you want to get rid of Windows completely like I did when I bought a new computer.

OK I know from the other post in the testing of the UEFI build that it was determined that it would sort of not be pursued. That is unfortunate. Especially for all the Windows 10 users that hate Windows 10. (Me Included) I am in the sense forced to use Windows 10 simply because I 1.) I can't wrap my head around all the stuff you have to do to actually load LL3 into a UEFI booting win 10 computer. 2.) I really am too hesitant on performing all that has to be done to re-write the boot log or whatever to get LL3 to boot up properly in a dual boot system with Win 10. 3). It is the most commonly used OS for new computers. 4.) IMHO This is kind of contrary to the goal of LL is it not? I was under the impression LL is to replace windows and be as simple to use as windows. (whether it was designed for Win XP replacement or not.) Keeping that in mind I am going to start a poll and see how many people in the forum would like to see the UEFI build attained. I for one would like to see it as my New computer is too slow with Win 10 and I know that with LL3 it would be so much faster.


So that being said... PLEASE RECONSIDER!!!

I used to be able to screenshoot and save the capture to the clipboard.  Then I could go to imgur.com and paste the capture.  I thought the issue was with imgur, but I just tried to paste a capture from the clipboard to LibreOffice Draw, and I got the same result as when I tried to paste to imgur...nothing.  As a workaround, I save the capture as a *.png file and then upload to imgur.  But it would be nice if the Screenshot program was again working as expected.

Any ideas?
