Attempted to use Lite Upgrade to update a 3.4 system to 3.6 and get an error message:
"Linux Lite Upgrade Utility was unable to establish a connection with the Linux Lite master repository. Please check your internet connection and try again."
This system can only access the internet via a web proxy, for which the details have been set in environment variables in /etc/environment and APT configuration options in /etc/apt/apt.conf. The Install Updates utility works normally and I had run this (and successfully applied some updates) and rebooted before attempting to run Lite Upgrade. I've also successfully installed Lite Software packages on this system.
I can therefore only conclude that Lite Upgrade is not respecting any of the proxy settings in place.
If Lite Upgrade can be convinced to do the upgrade via a proxy, how do I set the proxy details? If it doesn't support a proxy, is it a script I can look at modifying? (I understand shell scripts and Python ok, Perl not so much)
Thanks.
Release Announcement
Linux Lite 3.6 Final is now available for download. There have been a number of changes since the 3.4 release.
In this release, we introduce two major new features. Firstly, Lite Sources is a repository selector that allows you to easily select a software repository nearest to you. When new versions of Linux Lite branded applications are released, you'll now get much faster download speeds thanks to Lite Sources. The second newest feature for Linux Lite 3.6 is the inclusion of both an online and offline search engine for the Linux Lite Help Manual. Search results are highlighted to allow you to easily find the help content you need fast.
See below for all the changes and how to use our new features.

New Search engine for the Help Manual - The Linux Lite Help Manual has received the long awaited search engine. This is the culmination of 4 free software projects rolled into one.
The search engine has been designed in such a way that the end result produces an easy to understand UI. The search engine is available both offline and online and is mobile/tablet friendly. See the online version here - https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual
1. Each page has a Search box directly below each pages contents menu, near the top of the page. Type in your search query.
TIP: For optimal results, only search for one or two words eg. nvidia instead of how do I install nvidia drivers

2. Click on the link in the search results.

Lite Upgrade has had some minor GUI and code changes
Lite Welcome has had some minor GUI changes
New wallpapers
Samba conf file - share name shortened from linuxliteshare to liteshare
Note: The Arc theme for Firefox has been removed. Development on the Firefox theme seems to have stalled and there are a number of unanswered issues on Github that are yet to be addressed. For this reason, the sensible thing to do is remove it as there are no guarantees it will play nice with future Firefox versions. If you have the Arc Firefox theme installed, I recommend disabling and/or removing it. In Firefox go to Tools, Addons, Appearance.
The system wide Arc theme has nothing to do with this issue.

Dear Skype only users,
Should this new preview version replace version 5.4 in our repos or should we be patient and wait for the Final?

I'm currently using would like to recommend it. I'm getting tired of chromium and Chrome. Currently wondering why my chromium setting are all dsyc but very liking brace.
God Not dead.
My superpower is...
![[Image: imalllitup.png]](http://myphotos.mypclinuxos.com/images/robin/imalllitup.png)
I can handle light sabres with my bare hands! (All four of them, lol)
What's your superpower?Of course, Linux Lite's superpower is keeping older computers out of the landfill, giving them years of new life! Aaannnnnd, making Linux users out of newbies!
Hello.
I'm quite new to using Linux and have some experience with Ubuntu, Mint and Manjaro so far.
I'm not an IT person, just a normal user who knows how to install (via simple graphical installer) and daily use an operating system for basic tasks: Internet, playing multimedia files, editing documents, some games etc. So I would appreciate answers not relying on heavy technical jargon, thanks.
My questions are:
1. How different is LL (Linux Lite) from Ubuntu and how different is it from other Ubuntu-based distros? Is it just “Ubuntu with a different wallpaper”, like someone said in a review about many small Ubuntu-based distros?
Of course, I realize that the LL team have done a great job of easing the transition from Windows to many newcomers, especially with a good, informative guide and the nice “Lite Software” interface. But is there more to LL? Does LL audit something in the general code or improve upon it somehow?
2. Somewhat related to the previous question:
Ubuntu was known for gathering some user data in the past (the Amazon search present in Unity). Now, I understand that the data gathering was “anonymous” (or so they say…) and limited to Unity desktop (Really – how do we know?!?)
One one hand, Ubuntu users cannot be certain that Ubuntu does not contain more data surveillance code hidden inside its general code, can they?…
On the other hand, Ubuntu did make the Linux desktop easier and more friendly to use and thus it set a model to follow for many other distros and that helped the free open source world in general…
So I am divided here (am I the only one thinking like this?): It seems Ubuntu has done both good and harm. What is your position on this? How does LL ensure that the Ubuntu code they receive from the Ubuntu source is forwarded to the LL users in a safer way?…
3. Does anyone know of a simple, non-root way of mounting an .iso file? I know of AcetoneIso and Furiusiso, but they seem to install quite many extras with them. I will probably use one of them as a last resort, but I was searching for something simpler (for example, in Manjaro one can mount an .iso by right click mouse)
Thank you.
Hi, Lite Softwares provided with LL seems to very cool and useful. Can we have a default note taking app as a new 'Lite Software'. I think it's very essential for work and productivity.
Thanks.
hello linux lt on all machines
i have three home pc s on my net work and i am trying to learn in bash so i have been playing with ssh. all my machines have ssh and ssh opensshd-sever. and i was able to ssh # 102 to #107 and vice versa. but now only #102 ssh 's to 107 . connect timed out port 22. however both machines have ufw turn to OFF
i have know a lot of commands but i dont know all the terminology so i get lost in some of the explanations and tutorial that i have used. is there a direct way to allow or not allow ports to be seen or set in terminal or gui ............. netstat and its other similar commands are not clear to me
i only am using this to learn in terminal and not for work or anything important . i log as w**@machinename like this w**@desktop:~$ w**@laptop:~$ w**@htpc:~$ and on localhost my router so do i need a user name@ or just ssh ip address. ?
nano is not working for me on 102 if i grep listen config page blank and a purge or reinstall i dont think fixes problem b/c it doesnt redo lists as it needs too .
i like linux and never go bac to wnds. sorry for the poor note and grammar from the deep wet south
Dear folks,
How can I download latest Linux Lite version with non-PAE kernel 3.16 or more than it? We are using 1GHz dual core DMP Vortex86DX3 processor.
Please suggest for DMP vortex processor. We don't have forcepae flag support.
Thanks,
helloami
At some point I hopefully will run out of questions!
On one of the five donated laptops/notebooks on which I have loaded LL 3.4 I inadvertently enabled "this" (see photo). Now each time I boot up the computer and go into my administrator user (I have also set up a second user) I get this message. I am trying to upload a photo, but in case it doesn't show up it is a white box in the middle of my screen that says:
DEFAULT
Last accessed: Sat Aug 12 11:28:24 2017
Log Out New Session
I believe I double click on the session (Sat Aug...) which then is allowing me to continue and it goes away.
I tried going into the lite tweaks and going into manage sessions and disabling it for all users, however it is still popping up. I'm not sure how to get rid of this happening and I forget what I did initially (it wasn't via the lite tweak) that I turned this on...
Any easy fixes?
