  Kodi

I made the mistake of updating Kodi 15.2 to 17.3. How do I change it back to 15.2? Lite software will only reinstall 17.3 now and it does not work. I am using Linux Lite 3.4.

  Another good reason to install Linux Lite
Posted by: bitsnpcs - 07-23-2017, 11:03 AM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (3)

Hello,

in a news story to my phone this morning, published by the express newspaper, is a story about how Microsoft's default setting for Windows 10 updates has (and will continue to) be sharing users files on the internet by default settings.

In response to the newspaper Microsoft claimed this was to speed up slow update speeds. Saying this hidden process could be changed in the advanced update settings options.
Why they neglected to tell their users of this, well... they obviously do not feel privacy is important :Smile

I thought it was another good example of why changing to Linux Lite will immediately improve a Windows 10 users privacy, by default Wink setting, and without them having to wait for any newspaper story.

I hope it may help any community members when speaking to those around them about Linux and why exactly it is a better option for their computers, and their privacy.

  Learning Java Programming on Linux
Posted by: Homework - 07-23-2017, 08:55 AM - Forum: Coding - Replies (16)

Hello, I'm new to Linux Lite OS and programming.
At the moment, I'm learning Java programming from a course at Udemy and I've encountered a problem with empty spaces in outputs.

Here's part of the codes:

Code:
public String toString()
{
        return first + " " + middle + " " + last;
}

Name myName = new Name("Cookie" + "Monster" + "Jr");
System.out.println("myName: " + myName.toString());

Then I compiled the codes and here's what it's shown on the Terminal:
Code:
mei@mei-Aspire-4750:~/Documents/java$ javac NameTest.java
mei@mei-Aspire-4750:~/Documents/java$ javac Name.java
mei@mei-Aspire-4750:~/Documents/java$ java NameTest
myName:   CookieMonsterJr

All the spaces are appearing right before the name. I'm using Linux's Text Editor. Could this the reason why the codes are not working properly?

  EasyTether Compatible?
Posted by: kanqkhaos - 07-23-2017, 04:50 AM - Forum: Network - Replies (3)

Yo! new Linux user here, and I have a question about the easytether app. I've seen that it works on unbuntu and linux mint.. is there any possibility the app will work with linux lite also? And if so how do I do this? I have a android that can only use 8 gb of mobile hotspot, has no USB tether option. I used PDANET app as my current usb tether set up on windows vista because i've hit the 8GB mobile hotspot cap. which is by the way infuriating.. most companies allow you to continue hotspot use just at throttled speeds. The boost mobile plan that I have will just redirect me to boost mobile site to reboost my plan which I wont be able to do until Thursday. I stay in rural area we don't have cable internet option, only satellite internet and we don't have that either. I use my phone for internet browsing streaming since i have unlimited plan.

Just wanted to know if easytether worked with linux lite. If not, I won't be online till next week but eh that's not problem.. I've also heard that I can reinstall windows if needed.

  Whassup Linux Lite Community?
Posted by: kanqkhaos - 07-23-2017, 04:42 AM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (2)

Just thought I'd introduce myself, I'm new to Linux. I haven't installed Linux Lite yet but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna do that here after I finish posting this. I do have a network tethering question but if it's one thing I know it's not to throw a lot of different topics around in places they don't belong Lol so I'll just go to the networking section after here. Looking forward to meeting y'all and sharing tips n tricks. I'm a gamer too... not really PC gamer I mean I enjoyed the few games I've played I'm just used to controller vs KB/M.

Well, I'm not gonna ramble on I'm anxious to start my new journey!

Edit: Sorry about the profanity Lol

Hello everyone,
This is my first time using Linux Lite. I hadn't thought of trying Linux Lite before till my Windows OS crashed recently after an unfortunate Windows update.
I look forward to interacting with the community here, and please do pardon me if I ask silly questions because I'm not very good with computer and I'm trying to learn more about it.
Thank you!  Smile

  LL-3.4 & Development Repository
Posted by: Scott(0) - 07-20-2017, 09:13 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (2)

I recently discovered that LL-3.4/64 makes use of the xenial-proposed repository and wondering if this is intentional?

I ask because LL-3.2/64 doesn't use the proposed repository (by default) and not even after an upgrade. While there's nothing wrong with this, two "identical" LL-3.4 machines will end up using slightly different files depending on how the OS was installed. For example, my "native" LL-3.4 machine uses kernel linux-image-4.4.0-87-generic (from proposed repository) while my LL-3.4 (via upgrade) uses kernel linux-image-4.4.0-83-generic. Again, nothing wrong with this, just something to take into consideration when troubleshooting multiple computers on LL or troubleshoot with multiple people who have LL installed.

For a listing of files from the proposed repository go to Synaptic (start > all > install/remove programs) and in Synaptic click on Origin (lower left corner).

  Kernel Upgrade but Previous Kernel Running
Posted by: Scott(0) - 07-19-2017, 03:31 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (6)

After updating the kernel (at the command line, to kernel 4.4.0-87-generic), grub will default to the previous kernel (4.4.0-86-generic) on boot.

To fix this, enter into grub advanced options at boot, and select kernel 4.4.0-87-generic or the most current kernel listed.

This has happend twice. Now and on the previous kernel update but not before that.

One method to check this:
In a terminal type

Code:
ls /boot/ | grep vmlinuz
and then
Code:
uname -r
the uname -r value should match the most current kernel in the previous list.

These troubleshooting steps didn't help:
1. Shutdown vs Restart when rebooting
2. Running update-grub
