We should be thankful

I think we should all be extremely thankful for a forum where the creator and development team are so actively involved. Earlier this morning I finally was able to resolve an issue on a different forum. That forum has absolutely nothing to to with Linux or even technology. It's a totally different type of forum, but that's not relevant to my appreciation for this forum. To make a very long story short, there was a "management change" at different levels and the forum was suddenly flying on auto pilot. None of the new management had even bothered to register on the forum. That went on for almost 3 months. About a month ago, the Private Messaging function ceased working. I use PM regularly and made post after post asking for assistance. No reply. Then a few days ago a "fight", so to speak, broke out on the forum. It got WAY out of hand, but still no one bothered to check in, let alone lock the troubling thread and/or remove it. Again, long story short, I eventually started working my way up through the management ladder and finally reached someone that either cared enough, or had enough weight, to get the new moderators actively involved with the forum.
And then I come here and check new threads or the latest replies to old ones and what do I see? The whole dad gummed team actively involved and exchanging ideas with us "common folk". Yep, it's certainly refreshing! 8)

Install LL from ISO on HDD to same HDD

I have been booting Linux ISOs from the HDD, and sometimes installing them to the same HDD for a while now. I thought to write a tutorial on the subject but the link below seems correct to me, and has all the necessary infomation on the method. If you want to avoid USB issues, and avoid DVD burning, this is the way to go. I would only add that to install over an existing system you need to save the ISO to a separate ext2/3/4 small partition first. I use a separate partition to store several ISOs.

Is there a solution to the macchanger issue? Several sites mention that Network Manager 1.2 fluffs up macchanger. Other sites mention to use "wicd"
Has anyone got the "changer" to work with 16.04?
Thanks in advance.

NTFS External Hard Drives Copy Problems.....

When I started my external back up drives I was strictly a Windows user. For that reason I changed the format from fat32 to NTFS. My Drives are Western Digital - My Passport. And I have a seagate put in an inateck enclosure. Altogether they are 3 back up drives.
As I've been using Windows less and less, I've needed to copy files from my Linux computers to these drives. There has been several times where I ran into an issue. I'm on Windows, and then I decide to make a copy of a file that I copied over from a Linux machine. Windows comes up and says something like Wrong Path and file name. What is odd I can play the mp3 file, but can not copy or move or delete the file from the Windows 7 operating system. The only way I was able to fix the problem is boot into linux mint or lite, and then delete the file. After that I copied the file to fat32 flash drive, and then plugged that drive into the Windows machine. After that I could copy the file with Windows over to the NTFS drives and everything went ok.
I've had stuff like this happen to me several times with Linux with various machines and distros and NTFS hard drives. I've even had it happen on an internal drive.
Linux Youtuber Joe Collins made a comment in a video saying that NTFS file system sucks. Then he continued by saying that if your using NTFS then you need Windows to help take care of it.
I got a lot important data on my drives, and I can't just reformat them. I've been slowly buying more external hard drives and formatting them to ext4. My idea is to copy all my NTFS data over to the ext4 drives. In hopes that I will be able to use fsck to keep an eye on the ext4. As far as I know fsck doesn't work on NTFS drives.
If anyone reading this can help me better understand what is the best action to take let me know. Maybe give me tip or something to look for...
I want to add just one more thing. You may not think you are having the issues I've had, but if you think your data is alright then I would like you to double check. Every now and then try using Windows to delete, or copy a file from a NTFS drive. In my experience most of the time it works. But every once in a while you will probably run into the issue I've had. Even once in a while makes me worry.

What can I do to better the sound quality and stop the choppiness while using Bluetooth.?
It works well under Win10.
I am running LinuxLite under Legacy on my Dell i5755 Laptop.
EDIT: it sounds good through regular laptop speakers and is not choppy.
What's up with the Bluetooth?

Every time I try to install Linux Lite the installer gets stuck and just says "Creating user..." while the mouse pointer spins around.
The first few times I tried the box at the bottom of the installer window kept showing lines that said something about "ufw block" and a mac address like the firewall was blocking something, so the next couple of times I turned the firewall off.
After that it still wouldn't work.
The box says stuff about entering a password (really? i mean, i'm not even supposed to see whats in the box to know it's asking for one right?) and encryption and it just sits there fooooorreeeeeever.

I have just bought an Arduino kit and i'm awaiting delivery. I would like to ask other forum members how they downloaded and set up the software for Arduino. I did have a look in Lite Software but there was no mention of arduino.
I am running the 64bit version of Linux Lite.

The search engine has been designed in such a way that the end result produces an easy to understand UI. The search engine is available both offline and online and is mobile/tablet friendly. See the online version here - https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual
1. Each page has a Search box directly below each pages contents menu, near the top of the page. Type in your search query.
TIP: For optimal results, only search for one or two words eg. nvidia instead of how do I install nvidia drivers

2. Click on the link in the search results.

3. When you arrive at the page that you clicked on, the search engine will automatically scroll to the first instance of that word, and it will also highlight in yellow every instance of that word on that page.

Image magic Malware on 3.4

Hello folks,
Yesterday plugged in a usb drive with some type malware that took over my LL 3.4 64. Pretty sure it was this drive that started the problem. I saw an application running called image magic. It took over my settings and everything before I could shut down. After restart all of my settings had been changed. I found out this application is being used as a backdoor for other malware.
After reinstall from DVD notice the application is pre-installed in synaptic.
Should I bother to repair drive or should I save me a lot trouble and get new hdd?
Thanks
Shannon
