Have to reconfig Internet at every boot - after upgrade
Posted by: PinStripe - 08-23-2017, 10:24 PM - Forum: Network - Replies (3)

Why is it that ever since I did an upgrade to 3.2, I now have to reconfigure the Internet connection at each and every start up?

  Alternate installer possible?
Posted by: Coastie - 08-23-2017, 05:28 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (6)

I have no idea how difficult this would be or if it even could be done.

Could there be an installation option to use the installer in Ubuntu Minimal CD? There would be no software choices step but instead just automatically install stock Linux Lite. This would not eliminate anything in Linux Lite but would give an option to install from a CD.

I had to use Ubuntu Minimal CD because I could not get the old computer to boot from USB and it did not have a DVD drive. I did not want to put a DVD drive in it.

If this is not possible, could I add a  Linux Lite repo in Synaptic and change it from Xubuntu to Linux Lite?

  I'm here on my journey
Posted by: rapturewatch - 08-23-2017, 08:00 AM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (11)

Hi everyone from Australia,
i'm a dedicated Christian man who has a side interest in computing.
i like to try new linux distros in VMware/Vbox but i decided to install 3.4 to a 16GB USB,
and it works pretty well and i'm a fan of puppy linux too (speed is a high priority for me)
i read through the documentation for Linux Lite and it is very good!
(All linux distros should have documentation like that!)
It looks to me like You people that designed this distro had alot of fun!
Because my interests are so varied it is hard to know where this experiment with lite is going
it's a great alternative to Windows i recommend it for users new to Linux.
Blessings to the Linux Lite creators and fans.

I am slightly confused.  What is the difference between - INSTALL UPDATES & SOFTWARE UPDATER.

Installed and updated 3.4 64bit on an old friends laptop for him. Set up his e-mail for him and am trying to register him at the forum. Registration keeps kicking me to error: Error with Anti SPAM DB. Connection failed.

Sorry my error. gmx is banned.

  Low Max-Resolution with ATI X1650
Posted by: TheDead - 08-22-2017, 01:53 PM - Forum: Video Cards - Replies (7)

Good day, people of the inter-tubes!

I had a problem this week end with an installation of Linux Lite 3.4 32 bits.
Everything went fine Smile , except one thing Sad ... the system has an ATI X1650 and max-resolution listed was 1024x768.
On a wide-screen monitor, this is hug-a-ly!

I checked and the card is officially supported in Ubuntu 16.04.
Also, some other people have listed it on the hardware compatibility list on the LinuxLite web site with higher rez.

I temporarily took a ATI/AMD HD 6400 from another system and this one worked fine.
When I put back the X1650 though, maxed out at 1024 again.

So, I tried to install the Hardware Enablement Stack, just in case with :
sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04
and rebooted.

Did not work.

What else should I try?

Installing Linux Lite on HP Chromebook 14-q020nr
Posted by: JanetBiggar - 08-22-2017, 10:24 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (3)

I'm hoping someone can help.  I have received a charge cord for the HP Chromebook which was donated to me for use with the youth in South Africa.  I would like to put Linux Lite on it, however am not really familiar with the Chromebook and I sense from some reading in the forums it may not be "easy".  I have only just turned on the chromebook and do not even see any keys to press to get into the BIOS such that I can even trial run Linux Lite off of the ISO USB...

I will google how to get into the BIOS later today after my volunteer shift, however IF anyone in the community has some good pointers for both the BIOS AND IF/HOW I can put Linux Lite on it that would be great!  It is an HP Chromebook 14-q020nr 2G RAM HD=16G

Thanks in Advance.

  Recent Forum down time
Posted by: valtam - 08-22-2017, 05:34 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (21)

Hi everyone,

Firstly, my apologies for the absence of the Forums since the 19th August.

Since the 19th August, the Forums were unreachable. I'm still yet to receive an explanation from our Host and they certainly got an earful from me on Twitter for this.

I'm still going to move away from a 3rd party web manager to a situation where I have 100% access to our web services. This will take place next year after 18.04 LTS Server is released. If we do this now, we risk completely destroying a 16.04 server with a do release-upgrade. By installing 18.04, we ensure that we have a stable server for 5 years through to 2023, by not engaging in any risky system upgrades.

Thank you for your understanding during this down time.

  Turn off swap permanently
Posted by: T1125P - 08-18-2017, 11:51 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (4)

Hi all, I would like to turn off my swap permanently. I'm using an SSD and have more than enough RAM. Using /etc/fstab which line do I delete?
10 and 11 or just 11? Pic of my swap partition:

Thanks ^_^
