I would like to limit the cache size in Chromium browser to 50 MB (52428800 bytes). Apparently you need to add the following parameter to the startup command:
--disk-cache-size=524288001) Do you need to edit the command separately in the following two places, or can this somehow be done globally? Chromium is already set to Preferred Web Browser in Settings - Preferred Applications.
Alacarte Menu Editor
chromium-browser %U --disk-cache-size=52428800Settings - Keyboard - Application Shortcuts
# is this ok?
exo-open --launch WebBrowser --disk-cache-size=52428800
# or do you need to replace this
exo-open --launch WebBrowser
# with this
chromium-browser %U --disk-cache-size=52428800Does %U URL parameter need to be appended to the startup command in both Alacarte and Application Shortcuts?
2) Typing the following address in Chromium's address bar used to show the page with all kinds of statistics (including the new cache size limit), but all what I can get in Chromium v64 is mostly a blank page, so it is impossible to verify that the new size limit is in place:
chrome://net-internals/#httpCache
# or
chrome://net-internals/#httpCache pagehttps://i.imgur.com/DDTrlpF.png
i am using linux lite 3.8
not sure if this is in the right place,
i tried to video chat on facebook, using the latest firefox, not working right , crashes.
so i tried google chrome, same thing.
do i need to install something to get this to work ?,
in firefox i can see and hear them, but they cat see or hear me.
in google chrome, it just crashes .
I came across this once before and thought I'd toss this out to the community and those installing where a USB drive is not found or unreadable at boot even when in Legacy mode and SecureBoot disabled.
I noticed this on a couple HP's where I had a bootable flash drive for backup purposes (using Redo backup) that would not be read let alone listed in boot options.
I tried several USB/boot tools; Rufus, Yumi and Win32diskimage with the mounted redo iso (assuming same results for any LL iso)
Not until Storage was enabled as in the below screenshot, then the USB drives would be selectable in boot order/option (F9)
A few generic screenshots for example...

Today I wanted to try a new appearance for XFCE Desktop.
Downloaded it through:

Have just changed from Ipvanish to AirVpn.
Airvpn has a Gui for linux.
Have taken out a months subscription....Will see how it goes.
Looking good so far

As Firefox keeps getting slower and slower I decided to have a look at Chromium. With LL v2.8 repos you get Chromium v64.0.3282.167. It starts and loads web pages much faster than FF but seems to be a bit heavier on memory.
One basic functionality that is missing is the bookmarks pane, which is standard in Firefox, Opera, IE and many other browsers. As it turns out this can be easily resolved by installing a bookmarks extension. After trying out a few of them I have settled on vBookmarks. It is based on NeatBookmarks but offers more features. Keyboard navigation in the bookmark tree works perfectly, scroll position and open folders are preserved after the pane is closed.

There is one bug, inherited from NeatBookmarks: search function doesn't work. To solve this I decided to install another extension specifically designed for bookmarks search, Bookmark Manager Plus:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detai...jomfkejibg
An alternative to those two extensions is Bookmarks Manager and Viewer. The search function works ok but keyboard navigation is not as quick as with vBookmarks, you sometimes need to get the focus with the mouse. The extension also uses a little more memory.

Another useful bookmark extension is Bookmark Scanner, used to delete duplicates and bookmarks with bad links:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detai...pdogjlejko
Another interesting extension is Popup my Bookmarks. It has good search function and nice GUI but unfortunately no keyboard navigation:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detai...bdjdbeifni
In Chromium Ctrl+B hotkey seems to be unassigned, so it can be safely assigned to the bookmarks extension. It is done from the Extension page (Alt+FLE), look for Keyboard Shortcuts at the bottom of that page.
X.org has some serious security flaws.
https://www.techrepublic.com/article/a-l...rom-x-org/
"For those that don't know, X was originally designed and released in 1985 and X11 in 1987. X.org replaced X11 and was originally released April 6, 2004. X.org lack a few very important security features that are critical for modern era usage and hardware:
- All X applications have access to everything on your screen
- All X applications can register to receive every keystroke, regardless of which window said keystrokes are typed within
- Applications such as browsers can be remotely controlled such that keystrokes can be forged as if the user were typing them
- The xhost + option can completely disable any security on the display
It seems that Ubuntu 18.04 will include Wayland, but enable X.org by default.
Will Linux Lite 4.0 include Wayland?
I have Linux Lite 3.8 32-bit, 2 GB of RAM, 250 GB hard drive. The account I am logged in on has "sudo" checked in the user rights list.
I am unable to see a shared network drive from my Linux Lite computer. Specifically, I am sharing one of the hard drives in my other computer, so that that drive is the network drive for all computers in the house. That computer is running Linux Mint 18.2 64-bit, and is running Samba to share the drive. When Linux Mint 32-bit was installed on this computer, I could see and access the shared drive. But since installing Linux Lite, I can no longer see that drive.
A couple of other issues, which may be related:
* I can't mount a USB flash drive. (plugdev is checked)
* When I click the icon for "Install Updates", it tells me, "Your computer is not connected to the internet. Linux Lite cannot check for updates. Please check your internet connection and try again."
I can print to a network printer, and I can surf the web, on this computer. (I am surfing the web right now, typing this in from the computer in question.)
Perhaps there is a setting change I need to make. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Jim
