I'm not a great gamer (Supertuxkart is about as far as I go), but my 13-year-old son is.  He's a great fan of Steam, though uses the Steam app  from the Ubuntu repository on LL3.8.

However, a while ago, I came accross a distro called Steam OS on the Distrowatch website.  It made me wonder whether Steam OS gives any advantages over the Steam app, for those besotted with gaming  :o

Would it be worth dual-booting Steam OS with LL?

As ever, I'm Interested to hear your opinions and experiences ...

I've noticed I have a lot of hidden folders with the recycle symbol on them.
They are duplicates of my regular folders.
I can't open them.
When I try, the "Open with..." comes up, with this statement... Open filename.htm~ and other files of type "backup file" with:

I'm not familiar with this file and wonder if there is any cause to fret and worry.

hi,
after installing steam using the default installer,when i open it, it does nothing.
im new to linux os and still learning in some other way,i stepped away of windows os'es due to privacy and compatibilty
i have an old desktop that suits for linux lite,i have some games bought in steam that i want to restore in this os,but im struggling so much to slove this problem and cant find any solutions for now and the only way i can assure for help is this team

I've finished building a very basic 4.0 ISO. Most of the apps are in place, there are some exceptions (see below), understand that this is very early in the release.

Standard Information:

- There will be no UEFI in 4.x
- There is only 64bit ISO, 32bit ISO ended in 3.x
- All Linux Lite applications are now under Menu, Settings.

Known issues:

- Progress text is not visible on installation slides.
- Wine, there is no bionic repo for WineHQ yet, so do not attempt to install Wine via Lite Software.
- Spotify - don't install in Lite Software yet - NOW WORKING 03/04/18
- Help Manual has not been updated.
- Menu, System, Printers is not working ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sourc...ug/1757901 ) 27/03/18 - now FIXED after latest Install Updates.

What needs testing?

- Check filetypes open with correct application: png, bmp, gif, jpg, pdf, zip, rar, deb, .tar.gz, .txt and office formats etc
- Both on VM's and real hardware.
- New Linux Lite applications: Lite Sounds, Lite Desktop, Lite Auto Login (Menu, Settings)
- Lite Widget, look under Autostart Applications.
- All applications in the Menu, with a strict attention to details on Linux Lite applications.
- Please thoroughly test Timeshift (Menu, System, Timeshift).
- Start Up, Shutdown times.
- Provide general feedback about new theme and layout in some places, eg. Menu.
- Any other feedback you would like to add.

You will see and use things before they are made publicly official, so all feedback is to remain confidential (pm me the feedback)

I did an update on a 3.2 and a 3.6 version of a VMWARE machine...and had issues after restart. Nothing except minor programs would work. So, I have done this several times since. Installed a fresh copy of 3.8 as a virtual machine (two different versions of vmware so far - 10 & 14) and then shut it down so I could make a copy of the fresh version. Then I restarted and INSTALLED all the LATEST UPDATES...and restarted...BAM!...nothing works. I get a consistent "Indicator Plugin unexpectedly left the panel" error. I can't do much more than that at this point. So SOMETHING in the latest update is killing vmware machines. 

I am happy to participate in the community, I was a user of other linux distro but I saw the philosophy of the team and I liked it very much and today I am happy user. Thank you for the work staff and Dev

Since last update, I can no longer use Lite. The boot process ends in an error message which says that it was not possible to open / load the display. A problem with X. I do not no where and how to fix it.

Seit dem letzten Update startet Lite nicht mehr. Ich bekomme nur noch die Meldung, dass das Display nicht geöffnet werden könne, also irgendein Problem mit X. Bisher habe ich noch nicht herausbekommen, wo ich wie eingreifen müsste.

I have been running Linux Lite 2.8 since it came out and it has worked great.


Recently, I left clicked on the speaker sound icon in the taskbar and it opened and I can adjust sound using my mouse wheel as normal, however, when I clicked on "Sound Settings...", instead of taking me to the Volume Control Panel where all the tabs for input and output settings are, it now takes me to the "System Settings" panel where there are NO Sound or Mixer settings.  I can open the Volume Control window from the Main Menu without any problems.


Not sure how this changed, but I would love to be able to put it back like it was originally. 


Any help would be appreciated.

I went from work over to grandpas house since he can't get the desktop up anymore after a Sunday night update and/or upgrade.

We installed 3.6 a month or 2 ago.  It was working great for him.  He's got an old AMD64 HP tower.  We can get to a terminal prompt if we Cntrl + Alt + F1 and login and do ls and see files etc.

We are still unclear if the 3.6 update was in fact a 3.8 Upgrade instead, or not.

Monday we didn't get anywhere, eventually fired another update...went home called back... he got a different UI (with fat mouse in wallpaper) ... but network (hard wired wouldn't connect).

Tuesday I went to his house thinking, oh well, new desktop widgets, I'll just get network working.  It wouldn't work.  Couldn't go direct to router in browser and ipconfig only had loopback in there.  Got to a frustrated point so started all over from scratch with the 3.6 disk he still had.  Installed it... did updates which took forever to download on his slow connection so maybe it was again an upgrade to 3.8 or something.  Finished it finally... go to do the final reboot and lo-and-behold...back to the broken state he was in on Sunday night.  Can only get to terminal if Cntrl + Alt + F1.    If I try to type firefox after logging in inside the terminal it complains about no DISPLAY.  I try to export various DISPLAY values like localhost:0.0 and other variants... no luck.

I'm guessing we need to be more careful so we STAY on 3.6 instead of ugrade to 3.8 (if in fact that is what has been happening).  Not sure when I can get over there again to help him but hoping someone either 1) knows what is likey the problem and/or 2) can give me some options regarding work arounds to get any UI to work.  Thanks.
