Hi all

I'm trying to revive a Fujitsu Amilo 1705 with an 120gb SSD and installing 'Lite' 3.6.

So far, I can get Lite to display the initial pages in 'safe' mode but it will not load onto the SSD.
From (my) memory it displays a panel with various tabs for internet, installing software et al. I couldn't get it to do anything else, so I figured  the only way forward seemed to go for the desktop option to install on a hard drive - which didn't work as it couldn't see the SSD.

SSD has been formatted NTFS and given a E: label since I had to do this on my main W10 (urghh!) and I'm wary of confusing and crashing it so rather than give it an c: - I settled on E;. It is the only drive on the Fujitsu.

I did use MBR as it seemed in sync with an old computer.

If it is a NTFS problem I'm not sure what to change it too or how to. I'm using Western digital data lifeguard diagnostics.

Any thoughts?

Laptop doesnt boot anymore, i disabled and after a reboot enabled trim and now i cant boot laptop. I am asked for a login name and password. My username and password do not work.

When i boot up the laptop i get a black screen for 15 seconds just after the feather screen untill my desktop is visible. This is something new, used to be much much less then that. Ayone any idea what might be the problem?

I posted this question (the title of this thread) fairly recently on goldfinger's 2014 tutorial, which described symlinking data folders (Documents, Downloads, Music, etc) to a separate data partition.

I notice that goldfinger avoided symlinking the 'Desktop' - was there a reason for this?


Is it okay to symlink the Desktop to a separate data partition as done with the other data folders as mentioned above. 


I often download large amounts of data from the internet (e.g. films) and so need quite a large 'Desktop'. The reasoning is if I symlink 'Desktop' to a separate data partition, then I could keep the size of my /home partition to a minimum ...

I wanted a simple program to edit pictures so installed Pinta using Lite Software.
After the install it ran just fine from Menu/Graphics/Pinta.
After restarting it no longer runs from Menu/Graphics/Pinta.

Did a search for "Pinta" from the root directory and found a file called Pinta.exe in /usr/lib/pinta/
But upon running this file it opens a program called Archive Manager.

So, now I'm confused. Where has Pinta gone? Why is Pinta.exe running Archive Manager?
And how do I get Pinta back?

I haven't done anything to the files in the system or tried to be clever. Have only used Lite Software, Install/Remove Software and "sudo" in the Terminal for a few basic programs. None of these other cases were programs called Pinta or Archive Manager.

Yesterday I installed LL 3.8 via USB. After the first attempt failed I tried a second one. But before I disabled my internet connection and changed nothing except that I partitioned the disk through *Other. Kept TZ and Keyboard untouched.
After the installation and reboot all worked fine. But the sound only appears via HDMI.
But that doesn't bother me, that is what I planned to use. -> Media PC

After that I changed the keyboard layout and the timezone and let the package update do his work.
Since then, I have no sound at any port. Even HDMI doesn't work anymore.
I checked all what I know, but got not any results.

I had this problem a times ago using Ubuntu LTS on a different system with no solution.
First all is good, but an automated update of the system destroys the sound.
For me the sound is a nightmare, never runs stable and if you make a update all changes to
more worse.

Does any one has a solution for that? I do not like to install the system again.

VLC is running an is attached to the HDMI Port. But the speakers are silent...
I changed the output to the headphone jack. Resulting to no sound.

I've mistyped or misrecorded my main password in a relatively new installation. Previously when I have done this I have  been able to regain control of the system by entering the Recovery menu, selecting the 'root' option and creating a new password for my user.
This time though I have been prompted for the "root password for maintenance". This sounds like a move to improve the physical security of devices which is clearly worthwhile but I have never knowingly created or used such a password, except on a live disk. I have tried a plain [Enter] linuxlite and root but none has worked.
It looks like I might have to reinstall but how do I avoid this situation again (other than by complete accuracy of course, mea culpa without doubt on this).

Have just tried to play a DVD on my new desktop computer using VLC Media Player.
But VLC throws an error:

DVDRead could not read-1/4 blocks at 0x01

I received an email yesterday it was odd by date, 21 March.
I had checked email each day.
Received other emails, including from the source of the 21 March email.

I am curious about the email process/of the date, can the sender pause it on their server so it would have the date stamp, but not actually go outwards from their server ?

I did receive in a different email a form as attachment, inside this it has macros, I allowed the macros, in the document in Open Office, there were squares empty between a each section I was unable to view.
Other parts of the form I was to tick boxes, instead I had to type in the answer to the form inside the tick boxes, as the only way to complete it in Open Office. The rest of the form I had to type answers.
I sent it back on the 28 March, yesterday the reply came with the payment link, after payment the receipts came from them, and the payment processor.
Also arrived further up in the emails inbox the 21 March email, it wasn't dark/bold as unread it was marked light text colour as read emails are.
I read it then, inside it contains the security codes, or also reference numbers of advance request email (asking for the form reference, and processed reference) .

It confused me as to how the date was 21 March, and if maybe the final reference is decided in advance but not enabled until payments, if so how did they pause the email on their servers whilst passing the returned form to the specific staff member ?

Just odd to me I haven't seen it before in email.
I wondered if it can be because the form returned wasn't standard how they expected as it may have functioned differently on Linux, compared to how they are used to if from other OS.
