Hardware Database page might need a small update
Posted by: Derek_ - 01-23-2019, 07:42 AM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (2)

Hiya,

https://www.linuxliteos.com/hardware.php

The Linux Lite Hardware Database Archive can be found here with over 1200 computer configurations uploaded (Linux Lite [glow=red,2,300]1.0.4 - 2.8)[/glow].

Should that be a slightly later version (i.e. all but current)?

Also, i might suggest putting the 'Archive' section below the search field, perhaps it could be less prominent (hence lower on the page).

How do I create a .iso file of my personal Linux Lite system
Posted by: arky217 - 01-22-2019, 09:58 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (19)

The title says it all.
Is there a Lite app to create a .iso of my install system ?
If not, is there another way to do it ?

How to make a live USB with persistence for Linux Lite
Posted by: arky217 - 01-22-2019, 09:44 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (9)

I have used Unetbootin to make a Linux Lite USB
and designated 4GB for persistence.
However, when I make changes after booting
the live USB, it doesn't save the changes even
though I check the box on exit to do so.

Should I be using another live USB maker or
am I skipping some step ?

  Welcome screen
Posted by: Derek_ - 01-22-2019, 07:42 AM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (2)

Hi, i'm new to Linux Lite. I've chosen to use it to build PCs for charity. It's not a high volume affair, perhaps 20 PCs/laptops a year. My clients are not remotely tech savvy, so a 'noob friendlier' distro like this one is welcome.

My first suggestion pertains to the Welcome screen:

Whether you click on Install Drivers, or Updates, or one of the other two, it opens in the same place on the resulting pop-up dialogue box. Ideally it should scroll to the position to invoke the action (or have separate pop-up boxes).

Cheers Smile

  Dukto
Posted by: arky217 - 01-22-2019, 02:41 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (2)

Hello; I just started using Linux Lite.
I like the application Dukto, but it doesn't seem
to be in the repositories.

Would it be safe to download the .deb file from
Dukto's website and install it via gdebi ?

If so, Dukto's website asks to choose a package for either
Debian 8.0 or Ubuntu 16.04, but it seems to be the
same file name under both headings, which is (dukto_6.0-1_amd64.deb)

If it's safe to download the .deb file and install it,
which one should I choose, the one for Debian 8.0 or
the one for Ubuntu 16.04, or does it make any difference
since the filename is the same ?

And if it's taking a risk to install the .deb file,
is there any other way to install Dukto in Linux Lite ?

  Back After an Absence
Posted by: Artim - 01-21-2019, 01:48 AM - Forum: Introductions - No Replies

Hi everyone,
I'm not new here but I've been away for a long while.  I have remained very fond of Linux Lite even while "moving on" to pure Debian and MX-18.  But lately I'm helping some newbies and if I'm not doing the OS install myself, I send Linux newbies here. I wrote about it here in my blog.

The only trouble I had was an old mistake I repeated: Downloading updates during installation.  It always made Ubiquity lock up.  But a second attempt installed effortlessly.  The other issue was reeeeeally long boot time, but a quick search of the forum led right to the answer: Purge Virtualbox stuff.  Problem solved.
For right now Linux Lite is my only OS since my desktop suddenly had some kinda hardware malfunction and won't even power up.  It's going to the shop tomorrow to find out why.  When I get it back I'll dual-boot Linux Lite with my MX-18, which I'm very fond of and delighted with.  I don't think it's quite as "newbie friendly" as LL, but it has a wonderful set of cool tools.
I'm happy to be back and hope to contribute.

  OCRFeeder failing to access /tmp
Posted by: timbuck2 - 01-20-2019, 08:33 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (9)

I am trying to OCR a document using OCRFeeder, but when I press the OCR button I get an error and it won't function

Code:
cat: /tmp/ocrfeeder_AdxiAl/tmpPBzAcp.txt: No such file or directory
rm: cannot remove '/tmp/ocrfeeder_AdxiAl/tmpPBzAcp.txt': No such file or directory
cat: /tmp/ocrfeeder_AdxiAl/tmpwS9kbK.txt: No such file or directory
rm: cannot remove '/tmp/ocrfeeder_AdxiAl/tmpwS9kbK.txt': No such file or directory

I'm assuming it can't write to /tmp for some reason.  I tried running as root, but it had the same error. What can I try to fix this?

  errors during update [SOLVED]
Posted by: Keith Buckner - 01-20-2019, 07:50 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (3)

Just installed 4.2 on TOshiba Satellite laptop.
Seems to run fine but I get errors during update wheather terminal update or synaptic.
sudo apt-get upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run 'apt --fix-broken install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
openjdk-11-jdk : Depends: openjdk-11-jdk-headless (= 10.0.2+13-1ubuntu0.18.04.4) but 10.0.2+13-1ubuntu0.18.04.2 is installed
openjdk-11-jdk-headless : Depends: openjdk-11-jre-headless (= 10.0.2+13-1ubuntu0.18.04.2) but 10.0.2+13-1ubuntu0.18.04.4 is installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt --fix-broken install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

  Commandline boot only
Posted by: MS - 01-19-2019, 09:48 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (2)

Hard to tell whether the request is feasible for LinuxLite only to implement, as it addresses the machine boot menu, but my wish is to have the option to boot the system in the commandline mode only.

Just a while back I have borked my system, applying in XORG an intel driver exclusive command to the amdgpu environment - hybrid set, a laptop - making it fail to boot at all. Just an underscore blinking indefinitely on a black screen, when the login startup should have already been there. I have escaped through booting from a flashdrive and changing the XORG instructions from there - glad for this wayward access - but in case I was missing a LiteLive pendrive at hand, it would take me quite a bit of time more to get out of this.

The way I understand the problem, the commandline only boot could bypass the need for graphical environment to load, allowing me to change XORG definitions through bash only. That would be good to have.
