Installed but not booting ASUS E402SA
Posted by: D_Blaze - 06-21-2019, 03:13 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (4)

Hi there, (I'm using my main PC desktop right now and my issue is with installing Linux Lite on my secondary laptop)
I've been searching online for some time now trying to get a fix to this issue but the fixes I have found seem to be quite particular to other user's circumstances and aren't helping me.
I'm not a techie.

My situation:
running an ASUS E402SA (Intel Celeron N3050, 2GB RAM, 32GB HDD)

Windows became unworkable on it so i decided to replace windows 10 with linux lite. I created the linux lite bootable USB. I booted from that USB (tweaking the BIOS - Secure Boot Control from enabled to disabled, Fast Boot from enabled to disabled, Launch CSM from disabled to enabled). That all worked. Once i was live i used the Install function and chose the option to erase my hard drive and install linux lite. Once the install was complete i restarted the computer (the USB was still in) and the computer booted from the USB again. So i turned the computer off, took out the USB and turned on the computer but it just went straight to BIOS. Looking at the boot options in the BIOS settings i found there were no boot options, so it seems like BIOS isn't recognizing the hard drive with Linux Lite on it.

I restored the BIOS to default, then booted back into BIOS and still it did not recognize any bootable HDD. If the USB is connected then the BIOS does detect that as a bootable device, but not the HDD.

When i boot from the USB and use Linux Lite Live, i can see my 32GB 'volume' on the desktop and see that it has Linux Lite installed on it.

I ran (from the Live environment) Boot Repair (using the Help Manual) but that didn't help anything. my BootInfo report is here - http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/27M39X9wPr/
I think it is looking at my USB not my HDD. Line 186 says
1 disks with OS, 1 OS : 1 Linux, 0 MacOS, 0 Windows, 0 unknown type OS.

I'm not very techie so don't want to mess around too much in unfamiliar territory. Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Daniel

Mouse settings an Linux Lite 4.4 change the double click
Posted by: bernard stafford - 06-21-2019, 02:00 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (10)

SOLVEDOn the Mouse Settings can Linux Lite change the always Double click to Both Single click
or Double click Option ?  I noticed on the Mouse & Touch-pad settings -> Behavior [lower blank area] is not being used for anything yet.
One simple switch/ Default is Double click which is always ON /OFF Being Single Click the only other option.
Other Linux Enthusiast that may have a Handicap or even  Arthritis would appreciate the gesture.
The Impossible is only Improbably Possible. It is LINUX Endless Possibilities, with the Dedication of Responsibilities & Endless Abilities...
Thank You For Being You !

iwconfig "no wireless extensions" Netgear WG511v2
Posted by: LyNac - 06-21-2019, 12:00 AM - Forum: Network - Replies (12)

I'm trying to give my uncle's old laptop a new life with LinuxLite (love it!) but his Netgear WG511v2 PCMCIA wireless card has been the last piece of the puzzle I can't get to work.

The driver for the card with the Marvell chip is installed, I followed the steps at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDo...diswrapper but when I got to iwconfig, I get:

Code:
lo             no wireless extensions
enp2s0     no wireless extensions

I stumbled across instructions on how to generate wireless-info.txt (here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=13024222) and this is what was generated:

Code:
########## wireless info START ##########

I updated the wireles-info above to show the actual output of the script (I'm half asleep after work doing this project). I see a lot of solved cases so I know it can be done but the hardware is different so I thought I'd ask specifically about this setup.

Thanks,
Lynda

Hola, recientemente me pasé a linux e instalando los programas de uso habitual me encuentro con un error al tratar de abrir RStudio, sale el siguiente mensaje: "R shared library (/usr/local/lib/R/lib/libR.so) not found. If this is a custom build of R, was it built with the --enable-R-shlib option?" ¿como podría solucionar esto?

I start with Linux lite . Actually enjoy the feasibility of LL. Quick  stable platform. Every Debian program file
available in the synaptic package manager. i started with Ubuntu 7.04 helped the Linux community over the years
by installing new test release updates. Reporting bug fixes to the Linux community. On a couple of different platforms
I installed a stable version of a Linux platform and started adding packages to the platform thru synaptic package manager Linux
wound up with broken pipes.. aggravation..which lead to determination.. fixed all the 15 broken pipes.. then released it to the Linux Community.[That is all of you] 10500 ..ish  different packages i added within that O.S... Working Together.. we .. are .. Better .. This is what makes LINUX ..MORE. . The community of Linux. I offer gratitude for what all of you do. My first L.L. 2.2 64bit.
Then I started Dual Booting one Platform with another..  like DEBIAN Lenny Server [10 DVDs} with OPEN SUSE 11.0...Server/Desktop
...LL 4.4 D.B. FEDORA 30 workstation.. Open SUSE is still having difficulties obtaining and keeping a stable platform..I wait ..Now after Reinstalling Linux Lite 4.4 _64bit and have 2372 installed package files including the new Kernel 5.1.0 I am back online. i get test release updates. just sent a hardware report off for the community with Lite Info.   Nitroshare: transfer failing
Posted by: JanetBiggar - 06-17-2019, 03:17 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (1)

I am looking for an alternative to ShareIT that will share files between my mac and the laptops running LL 3.8 so that I can transfer the high school study material I have faster than using a USB.  In often need to transfer 10-15 GB of material hence why I was looking for something fast.

I have downloaded Nitroshare on to my Mac; an android phone (Samsung S4) and an acer laptop running LL 3.8 and while it seems now that they are recognizing each other when I try to send something it doesn't connect and I either get a message saying "Failed: connection refused" or in the transfer box it says it's trying to connect, but nothing happens.

Has anyone successfully used Nitroshare OR can someone suggest an alternative that would work between my mac and laptops running LL 3.8?

  Back to the NumLock Issue
Posted by: v-grimalkin - 06-17-2019, 12:06 AM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (2)

Today I started over with a fresh installation of Linux Lite and discovered I could not resolve the NumLock problem I experienced first time around.  I did the Lite Tweek several times, even resorting to "enabling" just to see if that would work after yet another restart.  Nope.

What I found was under the keyboard category; the very first check marked item says "Restore NumLock at start up".  Well, blimey! I unchecked that one and also marked my keyboard as an Acer Laptop, and  ;D the restart actually did eliminate the stinkin' NumLock setting.  I don't know if this info is included in the Manual, but it really should be prominently displayed somewhere for new users.

Thanks, and I'm hoping I don't junk up my system this time around.  Love LL and this great forum.
