Login Window on Wrong Screen at Startup
Posted by: ssign - 02-14-2020, 01:20 PM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (2)

Hi everyone,
I have multiple monitors and I've reversed the primary monitor. On startup, my login screen stays on the other monitor (but if I move my mouse to the other screen it follows it). On Ubuntu LTS (what I was running before this) there was a fix to copy the monitors.xml file to another location and it would be fixed, but I've noticed that that file doesn't exist here. Any ideas?

This is the fix from Ubuntu:

  Peppermint on Lite live boot
Posted by: ryan.mccauslin - 02-13-2020, 09:49 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (4)

Downloading Lite for the first time. Created the USB boot, when starting up it shows the Lite boot selections, but then boots to Peppermint 10 live desktop?

After trying a few different versions and getting the same result, I tried SUSE on the USB, and that booted up as it was supposed to, no issues.

The only partition is the install/live partition. No swap partition or file.

Any ideas on the Lite/Peppermint issue?

Linux Lite 4.8 dies 5 min after 1st startup, works OK after 2nd reboot
Posted by: john777 - 02-13-2020, 05:05 PM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (3)

3 yr old Intel Core 2, 2 GB RAM box running Linux Lite 4.8.
I usually start working after suspending overnight, though sometimes I do a cold start.

On first start-up the computer operates normally for about 5 minutes, then the monitor goes blank and shuts off while the machine seems to remain active.
When I restart the computer from the power switch, it stays alive and functions properly.

I have a hard time understanding what might cause this. Can anyone help?

  Scrollbar issues
Posted by: ejc - 02-13-2020, 09:09 AM - Forum: Other - No Replies

Some time ago, someone complained about scrollbar behaviour on Ubuntu and derived OS.
Solutions were offered here but will they work if I try it with LL ? They din't look easy to use for a beginner like me.
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions...re-i-click
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions...gnome-3-10
They also say to right-click instead of left-click to move through the doc or page, but does that work in every app or there is a better fix?

How Long Would Lite 3.0 be supported?
Posted by: mdiemer - 02-12-2020, 10:01 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (4)

I recently installed Lite 3.0 because of video driver issues (see my thread on that under Video section). Basically, my on-board graphics work better with Nvidia than Nouveau drivers. Lite 3.0, as well as other Ubuntu 16.04 distros, will allow me to install the Nvidia driver (304). But if I update to newer kernels that come with the point-updates, somewhere along the line Nvidia won't work anymore and I have to use Nouveau. So far I have tried updating Lubuntu 16.04 and that's what happened, bye bye Nvidia drivers.

So, if I stay on Lite 3.0, or I figure out I can use say 3.2 and still have Nvidia working, how long will I have support? The full 5 years, regardless of what point version or kernel I have? I ask because with Lubuntu, they tell me I have to update to the latest one to get the full five years. But I believe Lubuntu has a different release plan than most distros based on Ubuntu. But I just wanted to clarify this.

Thanks,

Mike

Linux Lite EFI iso - 4.8 version
Posted by: paulhoffusa - 02-12-2020, 09:22 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (3)

  My first post  Big Grin

I see a 4.2 version is there a 4.8 version? If so then where?

I'd be more then happy to test it because I saw in old post for version 4.2 no one had a EFI computer to test on and I do and it's very important to me to have EFI functionality for newer computers.

Thank you for this distro Smile

Grateful user on year 2004 Laptop
Posted by: Lovelinuxlux - 02-11-2020, 07:58 PM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (2)

I have held onto a Toshiba Satellite A75 laptop (2004) as a kind of toy for testing out -- and playing around with -- lightweight Linux distros.

[Pentium 4 with about 1.4 GB RAM (upgraded from 512 MB); unit is 16 years old in 2020]

I have installed NOTHING other than Linux Lite and won't even bother with anything else.

I first installed Linux Lite 3.6 on this unit almost two years ago but did nothing much with it except to run updates every 8 months or so.

[Linux 4.x -- being 64-bit only --  is not an option. It is so great that Linux Lite 3.6 will be maintained until 2021]

I just want to say I am certain that Linux Lite is the perfect Linux distro for the above specs of this ancient dinosaur.

However, browser usage of this machine is quite <precarious> and finely balanced -- with almost no room for modification -- or else usability is wrecked.

When browsing, I keep JAVASCRIPT disabled -- and I only use Firefox on rare occasions.

==> The main-important-huge point I want to make is that it is *only* the MIDORI BROWSER (v.0.5.11 released August 30, 2015) that makes this unit "not-utterly-annoying" for browsing.

Specifically, the fans of this unit -- overstuffed with a Pentium 4 desktop chip -- REV UP up to LOUD Jetliner Turbo speeds on the slightest provocation when browsing to any webpage with multiple Javascript items running (ruining on?) the page...especially with Firefox.

==> The MIDORI BROWSER is my salvation, and makes this ancient unit running Linux Lite nicely useable.

Finally, just yesterday I activated zRam via "Lite Tweeks" -- and it made a *clearly* perceptible and satisfying difference in speed and responsiveness [!!]

Thank you Jerry and Linux Lite!

  RAM speed

I am thinking to upgrade my RAM.

Here is what Linux tells about my current module:

Handle 0x003C, DMI type 17, 40 bytes
Memory Device
  Array Handle: 0x003A
  Error Information Handle: Not Provided
  Total Width: 64 bits
  Data Width: 64 bits
  Size: 8192 MB
  Form Factor: SODIMM
  Set: None
  Locator: DIMM B
  Bank Locator: BANK 2
  Type: DDR4
  Type Detail: Synchronous
  Speed: 2400 MT/s
  Manufacturer: Micron
  Serial Number: 128BADF8
  Asset Tag: 0F161800
  Part Number: 8ATF1G64HZ-2G3B1
  Rank: 1
  Configured Clock Speed: 2133 MT/s
  Minimum Voltage: 1.2 V
  Maximum Voltage: 1.2 V
  Configured Voltage: 1.2 V

Why does "speed" and "configured clock Liteblue speed" differ?
