I am still wondering why the swappiness is still set at 60 for Linux Lite 5x. I was expecting that it has been reduced to at least 10 for old HDD and SSD for this upgrade. When I was stil in LL 4.8 with an old HDD, I already reduced my swappiness from 60 to 10. Now in my new SSD, I have reduced mine to 5 for faster performance. High swappiness is IMHO, only fit for servers, and low swappiness will immunize the computer to memory shortages caused by temporary big files.
cat /proc/sys/vm/swappiness
I am an out of practice Unix IT. Using Linux Lite 5. Wanted to change my users name, which I did through the terminal and vi. changed it in passwd and shadow, forgot to manually add a root password and to edit the sudoers file. now I can log in as myself, but I can not SU or SUDO. how can I get root access to either add my login to sudoers file or login as root at the "Alt F2" login. In the shadow file root has an "!" in the passwd file/
what can I do? can anybody help me?
Jerry you forgot to put add paint on the accessories menu

Hi,
I am having Old Sony Vaio laptop, Corei3 first gen, 2 Gigs ram,Nvidia GF119M[Geforce410M] card . running latest Lite 5.0. The brightness control keys do not work with Function +n control keys whereas the Volume control keys function just fine. I have 3 drivers listed in the additional drivers menu, Nvidia metapackage driver 390, Nvidia binary driver 340.108 from nvidia 340, and Nouveou display driver from X server X org. Toggled all three but result is the same. Any solution? Thanks
PS: I just want to reduce brightness,be it through function keys OR any other way.
I've been using SweetHome3D as my alternative to SketchUp for my interior design works. I installed the FurnitureLibraryEditor Plugin for SH3D Furniture so I can modify/add/delete items that I don't need. However, I cannot use the 'modify' part in editing furniture. The plugin cashes (or exits) whenever I click/right-click the modify icon.

Similarly, I installed a related plugin which is called TextureLibraryEditor Plugin for SH3D Texture and I do not encounter crashing or exiting of the plugin. I can pretty much add/delete/modify without a problem.
can i reinstall/refresh install linux lite without losing my personal files?? bcuz i accidentally messed up my system
I have HP Pavilion G4 laptop, my wifi network disconnecting every 5 minutes. there is problem with Wireless network driver :-
wlp1s0 network RT5390 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe,
In window-10 wifi network working well only Linux Lite 5.0 getting issues with wifi network
looking someone help to resolve.
please i would like to know how to change sound equalizer similar to this?
Yet another question. Last week I installed a "Sabrent 1TB Rocket NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 Internal SSD High Performance Solid State Drive (SB-ROCKET-1TB)" on my HP Pavilion 590-p0057c (32 Gig). I also installed a 6 Terabyte Seagate 'Black' 7200 RPM drive.
I installed Linux Lite on the M.2 in ROOT and set HOME to the Seagate drive. I also installed a USB 3.0 -> HDMI connector from StarTech that works quite well.
Meanwhile, I also installed an SSD drive in an older laptop and boosted it's memory to 16 gig and then loaded Linux Lite on it.
The laptop boots up fairly quickly, it takes less than 20 seconds.
The HP can take up to 2 minutes and was just curious if it's because it has to insure HOME is ok and it is checking the Seagate.
The slow boot time isn't a real concern...it does boot and once loaded all is good but I am curious if anyone has any ideas on how to get the HP to boot quicker since it would seem
that the M2 would boot quicker.
