Posted by: Mohcinooo Gaylawuiii - 03-28-2021, 01:54 PM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - No Replies

this problem occured a few times but i managed to fix it with fsck and one time i had to find the corrupted superblock (i don't remember how i did that).
im dual booting with windows 10 and another OS, linux was installed after windows 10 and the other OS after linux, when i boot up i get a black screen about not mounting home partition, sometimes i get to the login screen when using recovery mode but i can't login because home isn't mounted but most of the time when i boot it takes me to emergencay mode..Fsck didn't work and i tried a couple ubuntu fixes on the net to no avail. Please help.

  Modifying the Shift+Numpad behavior
Posted by: Acer5745G - 03-27-2021, 10:40 AM - Forum: Other - No Replies

Hello,

When I use any text editor in Linux Lite (LL), pressing Shift reverts the keyboard Numlock state. I am used to selecting words of text with Shift and the numpad arrows keys, and the LL keyboard behavior is a bit of nuisance.

I wasn’t able to find anything in the LL forum or tutorials on this topic.

I have tried the following methods to change this keyboard behavior:

1) The file

Quote:/etc/default/keyboard
seems to define the default keyboard options. Modifying the file line XKBOPTIONS=”” to
Code:
XKBOPTIONS=”numpad:microsoft”
works in my case after a LL restart.

2) The file
Quote:/usr/share/X11/xkb/types/numpad
seems to define the keyboard behavior, when pressing Shift and Numpad. I am tempted to play with the settings, but I’m unsure whether the LL updates overwrite this file.

3) The Terminal command
Code:
setxkbmap –option ‘numpad:microsoft’
combined with Application Autostart may work as well, but I haven’t tested it.

4) I have tried without success to use the
Quote:Setting Editor->keyboard-layout
There I have added /Default/XkbOptions/Numpad property. I have set its type as String, and its value as ‘numpad:microsoft’, but this hasn’t worked.

Method 4 seems to be almost user friendly, especially if there have been any hints or guidance, and it should be the proper way of modifying the keyboard behavior, but it just doesn’t work and I don’t know what the problem is.

What I am wondering is whether there is a more user friendly way to change the Shift+Numpad keyboard behavior.
And how can I modify Shift+Numpad behavior using the the XkbOptions in Setting Editor->keyboard-layout?

Many thanks.

  Question About Marble
Posted by: trinidad - 03-26-2021, 04:08 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (4)

[member=2]Jerry[/member]  Has Marble development progressed enough with KDE now to consider for Lite software inclusion? Would it install a full featured working application in XFCE being based on QT5?

How do I install Google Earth in Linux Lite?
Posted by: Kenneth Taylor - 03-25-2021, 03:43 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (25)

I have a simple goal:  to download and install Google Earth in Lenux Lite so that I can open the program by clicking on icon or selecting it from a menu.  I have been unsuccessful in getting there.  I have searched the internet for instructions.  I have copied codes and pasted them into my terminal.  I have followed instructions on at least five webpages.  I have become frustrated.

Should I give up and return to Windows?

  Brother HLL2390dw install problem
Posted by: waynebob - 03-25-2021, 03:19 PM - Forum: Printing and Scanning - Replies (15)

Ran the Driver install tool from Brother but it didn't give the Device URI as USB. I selected no when asked. Changed it to "usb://Brother/HLL2390DW but still wont see the printer. Checking on the CUPS:631 and it shows as USB now. Checked and the driver is installed. On the CUPS 631  it says to "Add device and driver" I select the device but not sure about the driver?Probably missing something simple but will only mess things up more if I keep farting around.I see three uninstaller scripts in the unzipped folder, not sure if they would be sudo bash etc. or not. I had ran the installer several times over top of the first, probably not helpful.
Starting to wish I had stayed with HP.Any ideas anyone?
Oh running LL 5.2 or 5.4 not sure. :-)

Auto login for just one user
Posted by: arky217 - 03-24-2021, 04:05 PM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - No Replies

How do you make auto login apply to just one user.
In other words, when booting the computer, it should
default to auto login to one particular user and not other users.

  slow update for python3
Posted by: trinidad - 03-24-2021, 12:06 PM - Forum: On Topic - No Replies

Get:14 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-updates/main amd64 python3-pygments all 2.3.1+dfsg-1ubuntu2.1 [580 kB]

Normally my systems rip through updates quickly. I noticed this one lagged a bit today.

linux-image-generic linux-libc-dev microsoft-edge-dev python3-pygments

Must have to do with the new themes available for Edge. That answers my question. On that note by the way, sign-on and sync now work with MS Edge for Linux.
