Hi everyone,

I downloaded 5.4 and put it on my desktop. I then copied it to a flash drive. I'm new at using my drive caddy, but it shows I have an empty hard drive I can (hopefully) install to. Should I put it in the computer below the windows drive and try to get the setup files on it first ? If that works which Linux file do I click on to start the install ?  hrug
P.S. I'm having an awful time with windows 10. I don't think the so called tech set it up correctly.

¿Cómo sé si mi PC con Windows tiene UEFI?

En la búsqueda de Windows, escriba msinfo o msinfo32e inicie la aplicación de escritorio denominada Información del sistema. Busque el elemento del modo BIOS, y si el valor es UEFI, entonces tiene el firmware UEFI. Si dice BIOS Modo heredado, entonces ese es el firmware que está ejecutando.

Se admite el arranque seguro, pero a menos que sepa exactamente cómo manejarlo, puede ser un dolor de cabeza y causante de molestias no deseadas, por lo que se recomienda deshabilitar el arranque seguro para evitar este tipo de inconvenientes.

How do I know if my Windows PC has UEFI?

In Windows Search, type msinfo or msinfo32 and launch the desktop app named System Information. Look for the BIOS Mode item, and if the value for it is UEFI, then you have the UEFI firmware. If it says BIOS Mode Legacy, then that’s the firmware you’re running.

Secure Boot is supported, but unless you know exactly how to handle it, it is a P.I.T.A. at best so I am going to say...you must disable Secure Boot to enable stress free computing.

Known Issues:

No prompt to eject Media at the end of the Legacy install, prompt is available at the end of the UEFI install.

Grub - holding shift down whilst booting in UEFI mode does not bring up the Grub menu (works in Legacy mode), waiting for Ubuntu fix.
Grub menu shows Linux Lite as 'Ubuntu'. After you install Linux Lite, you can change Grub to show 'Linux Lite':

- Open /etc/default/grub as Administrator.
- Comment out: GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian` and leave GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR='Linux Lite' uncommented.
- Should look like:
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR='Linux Lite'
#GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`
- sudo update-grub

Upgrading

There has been some tweaks to the Lite Upgrade code from Series 4.x. Most notably, the end dialogue has been simplified and will ask you to either Reboot, Shutdown or View Log. Continue Working is no longer viewed as a sensible option. Also, Lite Welcome will no longer be displayed after a Reboot. Just look at Lite Widget to see if you upgraded successfully to 5.4 or do:

So far, just let me say Linux Lite is by far the smoothest experience coming from Windows.

I have some Linux-experience. I can navigate the terminal and figure out most of my minor issues, however it seems you unix-folk are so fond of the terminal, that you'll happily trade 1-2 clicks in Windows for an eternity in Terminal 

And so to the question.
I use a 49" ultrawide with 5120x1440p resolution.
In Windows i've used PowerToys/FancyZones with "tiles" that forms one big section in the middle, and two small terminal-sized windows on either side. Total of five tiles.
The genious of FancyZones is, that when you have set up your custom tiles all you have to do is drag-drop a windows while holding down Shift (or any other for that matter) and the windows snaps in place.
This is nice, because its litterally one click and a bit of movement to move a window.

I've looked at some alternatives in linux, i3, x-tiles etc. (and this is where i hope i missed something).
From what i gather, all these tiling-apps ONLY tile "mathematically". What i mean is that you can't just snap a windows to 1/4 of the screen if that's the only window you have. If you have two windows the screen will split. This is not what i need.

I've seen you can set custom placement on a per-app-basis, this again is not what i need as i often use different programs both in "main view"(the big one in the middle) and in a small window on the side.
MS Teams, Spotify, browser windows are examples.

I hope i got the message through with what my need is, and i hope you guys have some awesome tips for me. Before i get this working, Linux can't meet my workflow :/

PS: i'm a child of the GUI-era, so a graphical interface is preferred, i spend little time in the terminal. Only when needed.

Several days ago I installed Wine on LL 5.2 using Settings->Lite Software, and then I  installed a DWG viewer via Wine. Both installations finished without any problems, but I didn’t like the DWG viewer, so I uninstalled it from Wine. Then I used Settings->Lite Software to uninstall Wine as well.

When I tried couple of days later to install Wine again using Settings->Lite Software, the installation stopped instantly with the message:

I'm wondering if there is any application - whether GUI or Terminal which can scan text in the form of an image - and while doing so search for a specific string.  On OCR with built in word search. 

Is any such thing available?
