,That Abiword change is pretty easy to do via a text editor. First right-click and open up the containing folder 'usr/share/abiword' as Administrator. Once in the folder right-click System Profile and open in a text editor. Then paste in the desired default saving format as per that page you linked to (I used .rtf), and Save. Done.
DefaultSaveFormat=".rtf"
Q: How can I make AbiWord save my files in MS Word (*.doc) format by default?Ubuntu GNU/Linux(tested on Ubuntu 9.04)Go to Applications -> Accessories -> and open a Terminal[/q]run this command (requires your own password):sudo gedit /usr/share/abiword-2.6/system.profile Change this content:<SystemDefaults /> Adding this line:<SystemDefaults DefaultSaveFormat=".doc" /> Save and close the text editor, and close the terminal.Note for developers: Is desirable to add a field on the preferences GUI, to make possible the user selects any format in a list as default.[/l]Because of the need to be very exact with terminal commands I am not confident about using it .Seeing as the command was supplied I copied and pasted it and got the following result .colin@colin-NC110:~$ sudo gedit /usr/share/abiword-2.6/system.profile[sudo] password for colin: sudo: gedit: command not foundcolin@colin-NC110:~$ QuoteAs often happens I am left with a further problem to solve my original problem that I expected would be solved in AbiWord GUIColin

Hi everyone Thanks for the inputs especially Quote from: torreydale on August 13, 2015, 01:04:32 AMBased on Colin's post, it didn't seem to me like he was looking for a text editor. Furthermore, he's a forum regular, so one could presume that he's familiar with text editor options. I could be wrong, but my guess is he either likes the challenge of getting Microsoft Wordpad to work in Linux using Wine, or he's looking for a scaled down version of a word processor like Microsoft Wordpad.@Colin23erk,I have the answer! Check this out.I got this by doing the following: Menu->Wine->Browse C:drive. I opened the windows folder. Then the system32 folder. I searched for wordpad.exe. I clicked on it. And then it was done.To make it even sweeter, I created a shortcut as a test. Just right click on the wordpad.exe file and choose Send To->Desktop (Create Link). Piece of cake.I followed this and it worked great.I found that it was showing in Menu > Others > Wordpad but for some reason it will not launch from there ?You guessed correctly that I wanted a scaled down word processor.In Windows I used "Jarte" which I found suited my needs . It is supposed to working Linux using Wine but I cannot input any text. That is why I tried to see if Wordpad worked as Jarte was built on Wordpad .At my age (71) I like to keep things as simple as I can that suffice for my needs . Having lots of bells and whistles that need a large learning curve is a waste of effort if they are never to be used . I have found that RTF files serve me well and can be read with most programs . I prefer to use a program that RTF is its native format so I do not need to export / etc to get RTF filesColin
