Linux Lite 32bit2.406.05.2015Vote for this featureMediumDefault to NUMLOCK OFF at bootupBob Carroll1AssignedJerry Bezencon

Task Description I am quite impressed how Linux Lite has evolved into the polished distro that it is today. I was quite surprised, however, when I first ran a USB "live" session that my WIFI password did not seem to work. So I ticked the option to make the password visible and sure enough the damn NUMLOCK key was on. My bad, I guess. But no, it turns out this is an odd "deliberate" default in Linux Lite 2.4, despite Linux Lite's reported intent to be noob friendly. Numlock status is mostly irrelevant to desktop PC users, but notebooks have outsold desktops for more than a decade. Most users, including myself, never have found a need to have NUMLOCK ON since there is numeric redundancy on a notebook keyboard. On a notebook, NUMLOCK ON status yields "n4036c2 2ey" when you intended to type "numlock key" as your WIFI password. NUMLOCK OFF at bootup is the standard default for modern Linux distros. As an infrequent distrohopper, the only personally known exception I have seen in the last five years is Linux Lite. For a new-to-Linux user trying out a distro for the first time, this could well be a major turnoff both to Linux Lite and Linux in general when he or she cannot seem to log in to his or her WIFI account. This "bug" left an initial bad impression for me. Imagine how it will be received by many new-to-Linux users.

Task Description Hi Team, New to your OS. Love it. In tweaking system, I noticed screensaver and screensavers in settings menu and it was a bit confusing. Wondering if it is a duplication? I went to menu/settings/main menu/settings/screensaver and screensavers You will see screensaver and screensavers in the list. Uncertain whether both should be there. Obviously low priority. Thanks

Task Description

I'm on LL 2.8 x64, using an ethernet connection. I expected leaving the DNS server blank in Network Connections would cause LL to look to the default gateway, the router, for DNS specs. But doing so yields no ability to DNS lookup at all. The DNS server must be specced in LL's Network Connections. And speccing the default gateway, the router, as the DNS server in Network Connections works, but only with a lot of "resolving host" delays, some up to eight seconds or so, no matter which browser is used. As soon as I enter the ultimate DNS server (OpenDNS in my case) in Network Connections, lookups are instant. Windows boxes on this LAN have no problem using the router-configured DNS servers.

Linux Lite 64bit1.0.804.02.2014Feature RequestVery LowBetter vertical menu appearence/experiencekurt2ClosedJerry Bezencon
100%
Task Description When the main launcher bar is put in vertical mode the tabs run vertically as well(rotated). This can be changed and tweaked of course. I normally go double wide for starters just to get the time and date to display without being cut off. The Launcher buttons go double wide automatically. The tabs would look nicer going larger as well. They instead stay small which is to hard to click. My preference for the vertical menu stems mainly from the desire for more screen real estate vertically. Most screens are WIDE and for some reason EVERY program jams the menu bars at the top and bottom. I find putting the at least the main bar on the left helps a bunch. I don't know if a lot of people do this but it is hard to go back. current setup: http://i.imgur.com/bEbfhjK.png

Valtam, if time and coding permits, could you add The Whisker menu by default or as a option by default in the next version. That would be greatly appreciated. Maybe you could add a dialouge at first-time startup/live session to choose between the old style menu and the Whisker, possibly the old one labeled as "Windows Classic Menu" and Whisker as "Windows XP/Vista/7 Menu". It might also help ease the transition between Windows and Linux, because the Whisker menu will work similarly to the newer Windows Start Menus.

Task Description By default, newer Puppy Linux distros added the official VLC browser plugin to their Firefox compatible Pale Moon web browser. This allows the user to play all kinds of non-HTML5 media audio and video formats directly in their browser, including FLAC, AVI, DIVX, MKV, MOV, etc. The official VLC browser-plugin can replace lots of other lesser media plugins. The easiest (but not easiest to find) installation: % sudo apt-get update % sudo apt-get install vlc browser-plugin-vlc Since Linux Lite includes both Firefox and VLC, it seems silly not to include the plugin. Task Description Hi Team, I've had your OS installed aprox. 1 month. Fabulous OS. No problems until this week. I'd use the computer and then enter "standby". Computer shuts down fine. Generally always comes back to life when I hit a key. But twice this week, it has failed to come to life. More specifically, the computer comes back to life but the display is still sleeping. Just a blank unresponsive screen. Only way I've been able to fix it is to hit the power button to shut down and restart. I have weekly automatic updates to the software. Every Monday. May be coincidence but this problem seemed to start after this past Monday update. Once I restart, I get an error message "system program problem detected" Do I want to report the problem. I hit yes, enter my password and get another error message "sorry Ubuntu 14.04 has experienced an internal error" Ultimately I have been able to send both reports off. I don't know who the reports go to so you may already be aware of this I noticed in the bug report that amongst all the stuff a line that said "kerneloops" and another line that this problem occurred during a previous suspend so it knows exactly what the symptom was. I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this but at the very least I thought you might like to know about the problem. It's not an urgent problem. I just worry I'll wreck the system by using the power button to get running again. I tried various key combinations to restart or shutdown. CTRL ALT DELETE, CTRL ALT BACKSPACE, ALT + SYSRQ while typing R E I S U B Nothing worked. I have not found the magic key combination. Is there any key combination to try when I encounter a crash or is power button the only recourse? Thank you so much. Ron

Dear team,
I came across this amazing OS and decided to try it.
I installed the English version in VirtualBox without any issues following your guide:
https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/tutorials/how-to-install-test-and-use-linux-lite-in-oracle-virtualbox/

I wanted to check out the Slovak localization of the GUI, therefore I tried to install the Slovak as well following that guide, but the installation failed once the "copying files" process ended. There was just a screen informing that the installation failed and a subsequent screen including a form was supposed to pop up to gather some information regarding failure, but no subsequent window showed up at all.

I used the same .iso image for both installations.

If it is possible to have Lite Linux in Slovak language, please, let me know how to make the installation happen.
Trying to switch the English interface of already installed OS did not work - "Slovak" is not available to be chosen as a System-wide language.

Thank you for your advice, answer in advance.

Kind regards, Ladislav

Task Description Try this: Double click any .deb file in Thunar and Gdebi Package Installer will start, click "Install Package" You will be prompted for a password, but notice the prompt is larger than normal, and no matter how carefully you enter your password it will reject it. I think it's asking for the root password, which doesn't exist, and so fails. I think this is due to gksu *not* being in sudo-mode, you can check with this command: gconftool-2 -\-get /apps/gksu/sudo-mode The fix is simple, put gksu into sudo-mode with the following command: gconftool-2 -\-type bool -\-set /apps/gksu/sudo-mode true Now try the .deb file again and you password should work. This issue probably affects other things too, but I haven't come across any yet. Thanks

Task Description Sorry, another NAS problem. Double clicking on a text file name on an smb share opens Leafpad showing "(Untitled)" - Leafpad does not open the file. Same using right click/"Other Application"/"Text Editor". Same problem when access is via sftp, even if target has full read/write/ permissions. Applies to .txt files and also to others such as .php and .html with opening attempted by right click/"Other Application"/"Text Editor". I tried changing /f to /u in the leafpad.desktop file - no change. My work-a-round: Installed gedit (which I prefer anyway) and set it as the default for relevant file types. I suspect that this is not specifically a Linux Lite problem but it is quite important to me as I often work on servers connected by smb or ssh/sftp. I am happy to test any suggested solutions.

Task Description When booting up "live" from USB, the NUMLOCK KEY is set to ON by default. This is likely to confuse new users when they try to enter their ******** WIFI PASSWORD. On most notebooks, "mypassword" becomes "0y*assw6rd". While this may seem minor and easily fixed by the user with some function key combination, it may be also be a major turnoff to a new Linux user who cannot seem to login to his WIFI account. Given the overall polish of the latest version of Linux Lite, I was quite surprised by this oversight. The last time I remember seeing this bug in a "final" version of a distro was more than five years ago.

Despite switching from WiFi to wired Ethernet and changing repositories twice, still cannot complete update. Post-install update fails with "couldn't fetch the package cache installation list." Changing the repository (three times) in Synaptic to another US repository which, on other distros, tests at > 1.5 mbps results in "Failed to fetch http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/dists/stable/Release Unable to find expected entry 'main/binary-i386/Packages' in Release file (Wrong sources.list entry or malformed file) Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead."
